Short-term LB signing?

So our three loan options are (according to transfer tweets).

1. Cucurella
2. Marco Alonso
3. Regullion

Not sure which id want out of those, probably Alonso.

Cucurella easily.

That's the most underwhelming shortlist of targets I've ever seen. Alonso is probably the best of a bad bunch although I wouldn't want him at the club.
Experienced loan options, and we are close to close of window. I hope we get none of them and ETH is forced to give a chance to onenof our young LBs from U21/Youth squad.

I think the trouble is, he'd rather play Lindelof there than chuck in a youth player. I just can't see how a youth player will be worse than last season's Cucurella.

Feel sorry for Alvaro. Must be gutting to be not even deemed good enough to be 2nd choice for 2 months.

If we don't feel he's going to make it, then what's the point of keeping him? We should sell him and let him move on with his career.

Guess Shaw injury is pretty serious. Not buying this 2 months news.

I think we are selling him. He was being linked with Burnley and Granada a few days ago and both a loan with obligation or straight sale were mentioned.

Surely we can get by for a few weeks? You could see Martinez playing in an inverted LB role for a while, akin to Ake for City.

Sign a bloody midfielder and forget about such a shirt term signing. It's EtH's job to sort out these problems. The bigger issue is teams walking through our midfield.

Shaw isn't out for a few weeks, he's out for a few months. And any solution that involves shifting Martinez out to LB is a pretty terrible one given how badly we depend on him at CB, particularly in terms of ball progression.

Out of the 3 we are linked to I don’t like any of them but if I had the choose one it has to be Cucu. He does more defensively than the other two.

Hope it's a sale in that case. No point in loaning him if he's not even deemed good enough at this stage. Might as well earn a fee.

Yeah unfortunate that we don't know how long Shaw is actually out for, but Malacia may only be a few weeks from being fit?

Martinez in an inverted role, akin to a LCB in a back 3 wouldn't be too much of a seismic shift in how we would play, surely?

Would rather it than watching Cucurella getting skint week in, week out and then be stuck paying his wages when our preferred options are back fit.

I think if the money is there we should sign a better young left back than Alvaro or Malacia to eventually push Shaw out. We should be doing this in every position. We don’t really need more backups. We need players who can take over and hopefully eventually raise the bar. Cucurella on loan is the next best thing as he won’t be taking a place that could go to a top youngster next year.

Seems like Alonso isn’t interested in leaving Barca.

And nor should we be interested in signing him, especially so soon after the greenwood situation, it would make us look even more embarrassing than we already do.

No we don't want you mason greenwood, but we will take a convicted murderer.

I'd rather try to get Bernat from PSG as a short term solution. He's apparently for sale.

Rather than a short term LB signing...

How about use Dalot and Fernandes (an actual LB).

And then buy a long term midfielder or backup striker?

Valentin Barca for 8m? Anyone?

Super talented, young and very likely to play for a massive club by this time next season. If we're desperate for someone at LB and don't bite their hand off at that price it's going to bite us in the ass.

I mean, if it is indeed a loan, it doesn't clash with us signing a midfielder. But I still think Dalot and Fernandes should be able to cover until Shaw comes back.

It would be beyond ironic if we got Alonso after getting rid of Greenwood
I would say it would be fecking moronic more like.

Where is the logic of letting Greenwood go and signing a player, who, through his own actions, killed anothor human being. Objectively much worse than what Greenwood did. I can't believe we're seriously considering this.

Trying to keep this back 4 together
We were told Shaw’d be LB forever
Hopefully he’s quickly on the mend
Just play Dalot at LB til the end
Now we’re linked with all and sundry
Someone in recruitment must be high
Cos we’re trying to sign Cucarella
Cos we’re trying to sign Cucarella ella ella ella eh eh eh
Trying to sign Cucarella ella ella ella eh eh eh

Zinchenko at City weren’t exactly setting the world alight, goes to Arsenal and is one of their most influential players

Maybe we can take that and apply it to Cucurella, before writing him off entirely

Yep, basically

I would love for that to happen. Young and upcoming talent rather than Alonso or Cucarella even if they are obviously EPL proven.

Just want to make sure this is the same Alonso who's speeding, drink driving shenanigans killed a passenger? How's Greenwood getting on again?

Tierney just went on loan to a Spanish team, he would've been a decent option.

Don’t get why Fernandez doesn’t get used at LB and sign a midfielder on Loan/permanent. He was decent in pre season. If Amrabat isn’t a long term target then offer them a loan deal that would suit all parties and then we sign a quality DM next summer.

We tend to go with household names - names that would roll off Danny Murphy's tongue if you like.
