Hopefully they give Januzaj the number 7. Still can't believe Valencia gave that number up. It's the moment when I realized that he should be sold.

Why? Valencia asked for it to begin with, and then because he had a poor season he decided it was down to switching numbers. Superstition, that's all. Not a lack of ambition or anything like that.

Yep, the no. 7 at Manchester United does hold significant importance and is probably the only number I'm ever remotely concerned with in terms of who it is assigned to. I never saw Robson play but know enough about him and the no. 7 to suggest Vidal would be a fine addition to the array of Manchester United no. 7's.

Robson in the mid 80's was the complete box to box, you got the idea he could play from sweeper right up to centre forward.

Isn't it obvious?

New black United hero Blackett gets 5, Ronaldo comes back and gets 7, and Fellaini clearly showed he can score goals and will be our new 9.

Why do you have to mention his colour? If you were talking about Phil Jones, would you have said the 'new white United hero'?

Rojo - 5 or 15, depends if we sign another CB or not, if he is given the latter assume we will be
Di Maria - 7 naturally
no idea who gets the 9 though

White Pele? Don't see any problem with mentioning the colour, what's so bad about his colour? Was it something he's done or should be ashamed of?

15 - Rojo
5 - Benatia
7 - Di Maria or Vidal

Summer complete.

While I don't think you said anything remotely racist, it does make some people feel uncormfortable.

Very much a 50s/60s thing where everything was prefixed with the colour if the offending person wasn't white.

I think as a world we'll only get rid of racism when we stop seeing people by there colour.

Anyway

5 - ROJO
7 - Vidal
9 - vacant

I hope Di Maria becomes our next #7, and that James Wilson gets the #9 next. As for the #5, I thought/hoped Smalling would get it this season, but since not, I guess it will go to Rojo.

White Pele is comparing a white footballer (Rooney) to a black one (Pele). In this instance, @Rezyuz wasn't comparing anyone with Blackett, therefore I didn't feel it was necessary to mention his skin colour. We all know he's black, don't we? If, on the other hand, he had said the black Vidic, I wouldn't have had a problem, because he is comparing a two footballers of different colours.

Back to my question, although it wasn't you that put it, would you have put 'new white United hero' if you were referring to Jones, Januzaj, Shaw, etc?

My problem is that you think being black is by default degrading or a negative thing. Different colours need to be accepted. It won't go away just because you say so. However I wish we could stop discussing this now and just come to the conclution we have different point of views on this subject.

Regarding the subject I believe giving Rojo the #5 shirt would be a huge mistake. He's not worthy of getting that sort of number and it also signals to the world that a player like him is now coming in to replace Vida/Rio. Ridiculous. Only the top 10 defenders in the world should get to wear a top number in a top club like Manchester United. The same goes for the other numbers. I believe Di Maria has the balls to wear the #7. The #9 should be rested until we sign someone for like 30m again, or if a player like Van Persie wants it or Welbeck gets some ridiculous breakthrough.

To be fair @Rezyuz can sound like "Racist" if you pronounce it in a way :p

If Rojo gets 5 I think that will be a statement.

EDIT: As I typed he's got it

Who wore 5 last?

Also, maybe he is replacing vidic? Vidic was little known when he was signed.
