Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Manchester United

Unbelievable. Absolutely no creativity in that line up..

Seconded. I guess we can expect to see plenty of sideway passing in this one. I sincerely hope this is not an indication that Moyes rates Valencia higher than Nani or that he would rather play anyone else but Kagawa in attack. Either way would have loved to see those two players in a 4-3-3 setup like this one.

A bit disappointing not to see Kagawa as his role is 'open' tonight with Rooney ill. Might get him off the bench though.

Not the most exciting line up I've ever seen but I do want to see what Carrick, Cleverley and Fellaini are like together.

Good lineup, if it's 451, would be better if it was Nani instead of Valencia. If Fellaini plays behind the striker then it's not good, but I have feeling it will be like that.

It's a solid enough looking team. Yeah, could see it getting the point, which would be a good result. Not going to be pretty though, but I doubt this game was ever going to pretty.

No Young on the bench is best part of the lineup.

Going to be interesting to see how with that starting line we are able to break down their defense - hope Tony V. has one of his proper days.

seems sensible to go tight an hard working in this one. Welbeck and Valencia will be safer you'd think than Kagawa and Nani.

We'll see how it turns out!

Get used to it, Moyes has seen how Shakhtar is a tough place to go and is playing cautious.

Young is on the bench. He's just not in the starting XI, thank God.

Huge night for Smalling. Evans should be a first choice CB but he never stays fit....
Either Smalling or Jones could be a regular partner for Vidic if they do well.

You're really underrating Shakhtar...
They're going to tear us apart going by how bad we are defensively and how deep we sit, and we won't even pose a threat going forward because we have fecking Valencia and Welbeck on the wings, with Fellaini probably in the hole.

Absolute muppetry at it's finest.

Embarrassing the match day threads are. How the feck did half of these numpties get promoted?

I'd really like to see Welbeck share some of the creative responsibility tonight. He has it in him but I don't think we see it enough. His build up play can be awesome at times but I'd love him to rack up a few more assists.

Christ, Fellaini in the hole, Nani on the bench (why the feck is he not starting) and no defensive options on the bench. Excellent, lol

:nervous: :nervous: I hope not. Otherwise the manager will get so much justified shit in the event we don't get a result here. I honestly hope he didn't sign Fellaini to provide an alternative in the withdrawn role when we have far better players here.

Talk about not being able to catch a break, Rooney being ill is a huge blow as he's been our only consistent stand out player this season. I'm glad to see Smalling start but Welbeck and Valencia either side of RvP is sleep inducing. Still, can't really blame Moyes, he needs to stem the tide and setting up for a draw is understandable.

Certainly is a brilliant signal to send to Kagawa though, isn't it? I'm annoyed as feck with these teams that Moyes is lining up.
Get a fecking clue. The only one sending signals is Kagawa, by being completely mediocre when he plays.

That's a pretty typical away in Europe lineup for us.

Shakhtar are there for the taking tonight, though. They are in average form on the domestic front and have lost some first-teamers over the summer, replacing them with unproven Brazilian youngsters. I like how strong and experienced we look with that line-up, but I agree, it smacks of pragmatism.

I still fancy us, though. Valencia looks improved this season and himself and Welbeck will be good on the break with van Persie. I reckon we'll nick this by the odd goal.

Well we'll have to see, it might be 4-3-3 with Fellaini as the most advanced midfielder ala Lampard. That should be a great role for him. But he'd need to be a bit more awake than against Liverpool

A decent performance from Fellaini would do him a world of good. Get the monkeys off your back man!

The lineup looks uninspiring on paper, but this is also Moyes' first attempt at 4-3-3 with United. If he intends to use Rafael and Evra as wingbacks in a way that Fergie never quite did, the game could potentially be an experiment in getting the wingers to offer loads of movement as they cut inside, while the fullbacks provide all the width.

Then again, he's picked Valencia, so probably not.

Good luck with that! Moyes invented cancer from what I see on here!

They might be unproven but they are highly rated and talented. And they are a club renown for how well they develop their south american players

Big opportunity for Cleverley. I hope he can provide that creative spark.

I agree. It's vital we give a good defensive performance tonight having looked shaky of late. Shame Wazzer's out though.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Carrick/Fellaini pair in CM with Cleverley further forward actually.

I'd be shocked. The last 30 minutes against City showed that Moyes is not afraid to use Fellaini as a number 10. I'm terrified that is what we'll see tonight.

Pretty much the line up I expected (minus Rooney) for Moyes first away game in the CL. He wants a draw and we'll probably get that or sneak a win. It won't be pretty though.

Nah, when Fergie managed we played 3 strikers and two wingers and won every away game 5-0 with the greatest football ever seen!

Fellaini in the hole for Everton was great so no reason to doubt Moyes here.
