Yeah, loads of players you know were good but sort of know nobody will care and don't have much to argue the case on. We should still see a few more of those.

Zamorano probably being the exception. Loads of reasons he lasted this long but all wrong IMO. He was excellent for Inter, no matter what the stats lovers think.

He actually named both Baggio and Ronaldo in his Best XI of former teammates, so he can't have been too bothered about the whole hoopla. He seems a really likeable character. I didn't rate him particularly highly in Serie A tbh, but he's a good tactical fit alongside Inzaghi for Oaencha for sure.

Dunno. The widely accepted version out there was more about Nike insisting they wanted Ronaldo to have the #9, but I saw Zamorano himself giving an account whereby the trigger was Baggio making his move conditional on getting #10. He didn't look bitter mind, he was just having a laugh telling the story of 1+8. He said "Negro, quedáte con el 9" to Ronaldo, surprised no scouser found that use of Luisito's term of endearment by another footballer :lol:

And yes, good fit, he fits anyone really, that was his magic trick at Inter: adapting his game to make up for whatever weakness his partner had. I've been hellbent on picking another chap that's a better fit overall but have to admit I was starting to wonder why I wasn't looking at Bam Bam and was scratching my head as to whether both would work exactly when he finally got picked.

Yeah, big lump of a forward but with the technical ability that a lot of Croatian players had/have.

I've never been driven by stats (alone) when liking/disliking players or voting in drafts. Not saying he's GOAT like but round.10 seemed a bit of a bargain.
 
I must confess I had completely overlooked this guy until I got that blast from the past reviewing a fellow Swede.

He was sensational at the 1994 WC, which of course is out of scope, and carried on that form for the remainder of the decade.



Why him? From the moment I narrowly missed out on Crespo it was clear I couldn’t expect to form a free-scoring attacking side and would, instead, have to counter those. Andersson is the specialist striker for that with his selfless roaming across the frontline to use his superb hold up play and laying off for others to score… while keeping a consistent 1 in 3 record himself.

But don’t take it from me, just read the BBC:

The blemish they refer to is because Lazio braced itself for Marcelo Salas’ transfer to Manchester United, and they had Signori making his move to Bologna permanent so demanded Andersson on loan as part of the deal. Once Salas’ transfer didn’t materialise they sent him back.

Most important though, they mention other players flourishing next to him. That Blackburn turd Martin Dahlin is out of scope obviously. Then there’s the unpicked guy who has the dubious honour of being Serie A top scorer and still getting relegated. He got nowhere near those numbers either side of that one season playing alongside Andersson at Bari.

Then there’s Roberto Baggio, whose career started going downhill when he left Juve. Unwanted at Milan, next to Andersson Baggio rediscovered his form and scored the most goals he ever got in a Serie A season (22). That earned him a move to Inter, where he reverted back to single digits.

Service was immediately resumed as the out of sorts Giuseppe Signori arrived instead after a frustrating season in which he left Lazio and had a brief stint at Sampdoria getting 5 goals in total. Andersson got him back to consistent mid-teens in no time.

Again, see for yourself. With Napoli winning 1-0, Bologna produce a stellar second half performance with Andersson scoring a brace and twice assisting Baggio for his hat-trick: 5-1.

Why him? From the moment I narrowly missed out on Crespo it was clear I couldn’t expect to form a free-scoring attacking side and would, instead, have to counter those. Andersson is the specialist striker for that with his selfless roaming across the frontline to use his superb hold up play and laying off for others to score… while keeping a consistent 1 in 3 record himself.

The blemish they refer to is because Lazio braced itself for Marcelo Salas’ transfer to Manchester United, and they had Signori making his move to Bologna permanent so demanded Andersson on loan as part of the deal. Once Salas’ transfer didn’t materialise they sent him back.

Most important though, they mention other players flourishing next to him. That Blackburn turd Martin Dahlin is out of scope obviously. Then there’s the unpicked guy who has the dubious honour of being Serie A top scorer and still getting relegated. He got nowhere near those numbers either side of that one season playing alongside Andersson at Bari.

Then there’s Roberto Baggio, whose career started going downhill when he left Juve. Unwanted at Milan, next to Andersson Baggio rediscovered his form and scored the most goals he ever got in a Serie A season (22). That earned him a move to Inter, where he reverted back to single digits.

Service was immediately resumed as the out of sorts Giuseppe Signori arrived instead after a frustrating season in which he left Lazio and had a brief stint at Sampdoria getting 5 goals in total. Andersson got him back to consistent mid-teens in no time.

Again, see for yourself. With Napoli winning 1-0, Bologna produce a stellar second half performance with Andersson scoring a brace and twice assisting Baggio for his hat-trick: 5-1.
