Others have piled in now saying he’s off to Spurs. And the original journalists saying he was coming to us have stated the deal is off. They were all played by the agent to get spurs to make a bid.
The same Tier 1 for Real Madrid was telling United till today. We didn't agree so Spurs might be close. Doesn't make Romano report incorrect

I see nothing from any Marca, El Chiringuito, or other radio-station-related Twitter account on this. This started from another Real Madrid aggregator account, and now Twitter's blowing up because of that one Tweet.
Yeah I went to that guy twitter handle and there is no report there.

Knew this was too good to be true. Typical. We've been made to look like fools yet again by another team.

So we’ve said no to the buy back clause. Which is absolutely the right thing to do.

People calling the club for this need to give their heads a wobble

I don't think it's even that. We were plainly interested; for a certain price.
Yeah, but we weren't desperate, he was literally offered to us. If Madrid are willing to sell for a cheap price and he's willing to come then why not? Fans here are naking it life and death.
Reminds me of the time Spurs signed Aurier. That thread was an eye opener

Spurs can have him for the next couple of years, then. If he develops well enough to make a difference for them, Madrid will come calling with the buyback clause. If they never exercise it, then we will not have missed out on too special a player.

Mourinho doesn’t give a feck about a buy back clause because Mourinho will be gone within 2 years.

Buy back clause was non starter anyway. No point in buying him with that.

Not really we just didn’t want to accept a buy back clause - similar to Haaland not getting a release clause.

yes it’s frustrating but if other clubs want to bend over then fine?

Well that gives us an extra €25-30m to throw at Dortmund right?

:nervous:

People just like the idea of a Spanish name . If anyone watched our Europa semi final, its clear he is just another average defender. Madrid don't rate him, Sevilla don't rate him and Ole doesn't rate him either. Good decision by the club. We need quality not Madrid rejects

That was a week ago. Then more recently I said this

And then people started attacking the English media and bigging up Romano, because he was saying the things they want to hear.

Fair enough. I personally don't think we were used this time, and the English media generally arrive to the party late when it comes to foreign players.

I have no problem if it is the buy back clause which stopped the deal for us. However, it will be interesting to see which alternative lb we are targeting. Hope it is someone like telles. We clearly need a backup lb and hopefully Woodward will sign one.

Don't see how people are upset about this if the buyback is the issue. If true, the player then clearly wishes to eventually move back to Real, United shouldnt be signing players that use the club as a stepping stone.

I don’t know about that.. I’ve genuinely never noticed him as a player (I know I’ve seen him play in the EL semi) but I can’t remember him sticking out.

I have no idea if he’s good enough or not, but the fact that the club stood firm on no buyback is the correct way to go.

Spurs must be moving to a back 3 with Ben Davies playing at LCB and Doherty/Reguilon as wing backs. I can’t see Jose playing a back 4 with two attacking full backs. Interesting change of approach.
Yep, full counter attack mode with son up top with kane

If this was because of buyback clause, I have absolutely no problem with him not coming. Quality player but we shouldn't be letting anyone have buyback clause on a player at the club. It seems Reguilon is looking to go back in couple of years, so we should focus on getting someone who really wants to stay here. This isn't a priority position for us this summer anyway. I was excited to have him here though, it is fun to have an attacking fullback like him.

"..made us look like a fool..."

Are these fans so up their asses that they have to disrespect the club every time?

Club can't convince a 3rd choice Left Back that his future would be better at United.

Thats a huge fail in my book. feck Woodward and his horrific negotiation skills and his bullshit propaganda.

Hope we have an alternate like Telles or anyone else lined up at least because we're in for a world of trouble if we keep just 1 natural injury-prone LB in the squad again during the hyper congested and condensed schedule that we'll have this season...

Despite the overall shambles of a window so far, this is one decision I agree with.

If he wants to come to us, it's for the long term. We are not a club which accepts buyback clauses. If he wants to come here, he needs to commit.

Else he can move along and some other club can pick him up. Looks like our stance on this one has been clear from day 1 - no buyback clause.

Delighted we are standing firm about the buy back clause.

In two years time if we signed him he would just down the tools and start itching for a move back to Madrid.
