Club can't convince a 3rd choice Left Back that his future would be better at United.

Thats a huge fail in my book. feck Woodward and his horrific negotiation skills and his bullshit propaganda.
He’s not guaranteed first choice here in fairness. And we don’t want buy back clauses. People are losing their shit more about this than Sancho

"..made us look like a fool..."

Are these fans so up their asses that they have to disrespect the club every time?
Something about Ed Woodward has to be included. Then someone will explain how they stole 1b and then same nonsense again

He wouldn’t even be guaranteed first choice - he’s not better than shaw apart from crossing.

Such a Levy deal. Probably foaming at the mouth already with the potential buy back deal.

Feck this post!

Hope we have an alternate like Telles or anyone else lined up at least because we're in for a world of trouble if we keep just 1 natural injury-prone LB in the squad again during the hyper congested and condensed schedule that we'll have this season...
Most of our top journos have said all summer that we don't want a LB this summer.

Will be interested to see if you have the same opinion in 12 months if he signs for Spurs.

Makes no sense for us to pull-out because of a buy-back clause.

One thing is for sure, under Jose , Regulion will spend much more time in his own half :)

Shame it had to fall apart. The buy back clause is a non starter for us, we need some certainty in our team building. But that doesn’t mean that he can’t improve Spurs this season. As a direct rival we could still suffer with the move, even he does up and leave Spurs in two seasons time.

To be fair, he's a better dribbler than Shaw, and that allows him to put in more crosses into the box. That's about it, though. Given that we tend to push up two of our central players, we do need full backs who are defensively reliable and good at transitioning back.

So it's off officially. Good deal for Spurs as they won't mind buy back clause. For us it's was non starter

Nothing personal other than he's clearly making it up when it comes to us.
Yet again - we were close to signing him but we didn’t want a buy back clause. Tottenham have come in and said yes sure we are happy for the clause. He now has to go to Tottenham.

why part of that is Romano lying? Things have changed today. Simple.

you clearly can’t accept that the transfer world can change  it’s very odd

If Spurs are sticking in a bay-back clause, they can have him.

What's the hope - that he does well, but not so well Real swoop back in season or two?

I can understand why the club won’t accept the clause but there is an air of superiority from our board that simply doesn’t match the current state of our club. We are an elite club in name only.

Absolutely with the club on this. feck developing another player for a club that might buy him back just to sell him again. Makes absolutely no sense. Let him go to Spurs.

Jokes aside he will probably use him as a wingback, with Dier dropping into a back 3. This will mask his defensive deficiencies and give spurs some control in midfield.

more agile maybe but shaw is very good at running with the ball from 0-100, he just isn’t a great crosser but he’s got a lot better recently.

We are one of the biggest clubs in the world. Simple as.

Great so we're signing no one but Gareth Bale. fecking kill me already.

At least we didn't agree on a buyback clause..

Perfect Jose signing - literally can’t even plan for a future with a buy back clause

I understand why everyone is disappointed but no way you make that deal with a buy back clause. You don't want to buy a XI player who could be gone in 1 or 2 seasons. Stick with Luke Shaw then revisit the position next summer. In the meanwhile go ahead and fill other positions, the LB isn't an immediate priority.
A club like UTD needs to have control of their players once they sign their contract. You need to be able to plan years out what position you need to fill. Ole is building for the longterm, if Reguilon thinks his future is at Madrid then don't go after him.

Fabrizio Romano has spoken just now on Twitter ( i don't have privileges to link direct to tweet)

Tottenham have a made an official bid to Real Madrid for Sergio Reguilon, as
@David_Ornstein
reported. Manchester United are in talks by days with Real but *won't* accept to pay €30m and *won't* accept any the "buy back clause" asked by the Spanish club.

Today afternoon, Tottenham made an official bid for €30m to Real for Reguilon. #THFC have accepted also the "buy back clause" and the "pre-emption clause" [refused both by #MUFC], so Real Madrid can match any other bid in the future to bring back Reguilon.

Reguilon deal is not completed yet - battle is on, but Tottenham have an agreement with Real Madrid and are now working to agree personal terms with the player. Man United have the "ok" by Reguilon by days, but there's *no* agreement with Real. #THFC hope to convince him.

So what happens if he has a great 3 months. Off in Jan and flipped by Madrid?
Spurs really must be desperate

Its Jose, he doesn't give a damn about long term view. He doesn't care if Sergio will want to go back in 2/3 years time. He knows he wont be there.
