I have a feeling that Ramos will be a bonus signing and that we have already signed Otamendi.
Aye - Leeds youth player and had never played for anyone else. But even him wasn't all that controversial. It's not the same thing as with Liverpool - for some reason. We've bought several players from Leeds who qualify as "United Legends", going back to the 70s.
Funny thing, really. To me Leeds is probably above City in terms of "hatred" and rivalry, historically speaking, but the "don't buy from 'em" taboo simply isn't the same as with Liverpool for some reason. We've sold several fan favourites to Leeds as well, and it's basically the same thing there: Nowhere near the added animosity a transfer to Liverpool would've meant.
Depends on how you look at it, we will have six CB's (Before any upcoming departures) three of which are seriously injury prone. Then we have McNair who needs experience before he can be relied on. It's a prickly situation we could find ourselves in if we only buy 1 CB such us the high probability that Jones, Smalling and Evans will be injured at the same time. That would be the best case scenario for us, however I feel Smalling has done enough to warrant a chance at our first choice CB and I suspect LVG feels the same. To purchase 2 first choice CB's rated at 50M each seems a bit much to me.
I mean more in terms of people not liking the player, more than the specific club rivalry. I definitely had him down as a scummy Leeds thug.

He isn't afraid to use youth as a last resort, however given the choice I'd say he'd rather not have to. Having to do so cost up massively last year, so much so that the entire formation had to be built around the defence as they couldn't be relied on to stay fit. I'm not saying we will buy two CB's but it wouldn't surprise me either. If Evans leaves (he's the most likely to) that's 1 injury prone centreback gone. Ramos his record is excellent and so was Rojo's, Smalling his isn't as bad as Jones either. LvG won't buy a 5th professional centreback for 2 positions when he's still got McNair, he isn't shy to use youth in extreme cases of injuries when 3 centrebacks are out.

Times have changed, it's extremely hard now to bring through youth players, especially in the Premiership. Not only is every game is a must win but the bottom teams can and do beat the top teams on a regular basis.'The youth is always ready, especially for a few matches', van Gaal also won the CL with youth players and says it's one of the most fun parts of his job to develop them. He always leaves spots open in the squad for the youth. The defence also wasn't the only reason to change formations but also our lack of defensive midfielders.
I'm certain we won't have 5 centrebacks for 2 positions, especially not Otamendi AND Ramos.

Exactly why i feel that ramos will be our RB if he does come. Some see it as a demotion of sorts but how narrow we play will be almost identical to the RCB role we play.
Does anyone really believe that this isn't just a ploy by Ramos to secure himself a fat new contract? As much as I'd like to see a player of his quality here, I can't see him leaving Real for the sunny climes of the North West.

I think a fat new contract at Real is his preference, but that he's happy to come here if the price is right.Does anyone really believe that this isn't just a ploy by Ramos to secure himself a fat new contract? I just read an article(in a web called soymadridista) saying that United did an offer of 50m€,however Madrid board is surprised since the contact was done through a lawyer office from London but not directly, what they thought that should be the normal since the relationships between clubs are good. Now they want a better offer,70/80 m€, to talk directly with Woodward and some public statement from Ramos
Has there been any rumours of what we may be offering him salary wise? I've just seen the €10m he supposedly is demanding from Real works out at £260k per week...

€10m net. Maths was never my strong suit so I won't even try to check the mats, but I read it here - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...arner-260-000-week-lure-away-Real-Madrid.html10m euros a year = £7.1m
£7.1m a year = £137,000 a week
No, absolutely nobody has theorised that over the course of the last 2 weeks.
If (big if) papers and journalists are to be believed, he wants that amount as a net wage after tax.10m euros a year = £7.1m
£7.1m a year = £137,000 a week

Better you than sherlock.Glad to help you out then.
That's net pay, which is how the Spanish press always talk. So yes, the gross pay before tax is £260k or thereabouts.
