There's something really fishy going on behind the scenes with all this now after reading those comments from Calderon.

Hmmmm....

Of course there's something fishy going on, we're been played for fools.....again.

I really hope I'm wrong because I'd love Ramos, but really all logic thought points to us been used on this one, whether that's all part of the master plan on DDG's fee, or getting another player only time will tell, but Ramos just aint happening imo.

I love that team BBC envisioned

thats a worthy title contending squad if rooney has a great season

I don't. Reasons why:

Di Maria and Depay should be swapped
Don't think Van Gaal would play a midfield three of Schneiderlin, Herrera and Mata
Lack of Carrick
No way we'd play Ramos right back
Lack of Smalling
Possibly have Shaw over Blind, although Blind has been really good when playing at left back for us.

Yeah that proposed team looks awfully bizarre, I'd have expected the BBC to be a bit smarter than that. That looks more Mirror territory.

I wouldn't read too much into Calderon's comments.

He was a former president so I'm sure there are plenty of reasons for him to want to make the current regimes life difficult.

As much as I got caught up in all the hysteria the other night, I think realistically, this just isn't going to happen.

A bit farfetched maybe, but could this Ramos/Madrid standoff be just for show to make us do a deal for De Gea thinking they might give us Ramos? If Ramos sounds interested enough, we sell them De Gea, then Ramos has a 'change of heart' and all is fine between both parties.

I just get the feeling we're being played and it's all too convenient.

Surely we're not that stupid? We would only do the deal if everything was signed etc

Holy cow, we're a bit dim at times but this would surely be beyond even us.

If it's swap we need to get Ramos to sign his contract first though, wouldn't put anything past that lot in Madrid.

Strange that people were over the moon when news broke out that he wanted to talk to United, and now that it's gone silent, many think it won't happen. Talks are obviously taking place and it was never going to be a speedy affair.

If that does happen we should be made play all of our games in dunces hats.

Pay zero attention to BBC lineups. They're awful at them.
Mainly due to the fact they are compiled by the likes of Garth Crooks and Mark Bright who have literally 0 knowledge of Football outside of Britain in the European leagues.

Either Ramos has a secret desire to live in Manchester, or else he's using us to negotiate a new contract. My money is on (b). I'd love to be wrong.

This.

You shake the tree to see which fruit is about to fall. Thus the early outburst of news. Where there is smoke...

But negotiations are never done in public.

Why?

Why?
Because of the information being slowly released and the noteworthy bits being done by the bbc, which to me give the story an air of authenticity you dont get with the usual bollocks. It also fits in well with our targets and recent transfer policy. Moreover i just have a feeling he's ours, all thats going to happen now is discussions behind closed doors about A- a fee for ramos, and B- a fee for De Gea. the 2 deals are going to be linked so therefore this will take a huge deal of negotiation on both sides.

So is this actually happening? Can someone bring me up to date on the latest? Been locked in the WW thread since Sunday. Cheers.

Apparently former RM president Ramon Calderon said it was going to happen, but I think anything he says should be taken with a pinch of salt. Then his mom said that he was going to stay (add a lot of salt to that too) and then BBC joined in saying he's going and they made a terrible lineup featuring him in the team.

That's what I think has happened, more or less. I've also been locked in the WW thread.

Probably just trying to paint his opponent in a negative light. It really does look like real will eventually come to a compromise with ramos on his contract.

So, there is a chance we're going to sign young Val Kilmer?

I struggle to see how Ramos resembles Val Kilmer tbh. It's not like a case of Douglas MacArthur/Bruce Willis or R Gere/H Ford

Full muppet indeed... but thats a midfielders wet dream of a defense so much good passers in there. Though i would swap rojo with Smalling

These were my thoughts too. No way should Rojo should be playing over Smalling at CB. I'm certainly hoping this will be Smallings season to once again improve whilst establishing himself as one of the world's best centre backs.

I really think a major reason for our downfall the last two seasons has been the shaky defense. Yes we weren't the best going forward in Fergies last few seasons but our solid defense kept us in games and kept us winning titles.

For Moyes and LVG, we always had an out of form and aging defense. Ramos is exactly what we need.

Cafu was extremely overrated in my opinion. I remember his career, and generally where his reputation was for the most part. It wasn't until his early 30's if I'm not mistaken after a WC and a move from Roma to Milan which increased his profile that he began to be lauded to the level he was, and then managed to retire as apparently one of the greatest right-backs ever.

Zanetti doesn't get his dues, perhaps down to no World Cup or something, but he was a far better right-back than Cafu for me.

You are mistaken my friend Cafu was possibly the greatest attacking right back ever. Thuram, Zanetti and Alves were great also but not quite as good. Mcgrain was another great player. But I've yet to see a right back like Cafu. Easily the best I've seen.
