Sergej Milinkovic Savic

No chance now and maybe the hangover from when there was the need to consider if Pogs was leaving this summer.....

The Midfield is the engine room of every great team. Get that right and your 70% there. Savic would be a great addition if Pogba were to go.

So he supports Real Madrid then? I’d rather we keep away from this deal than have to endure a “will he won’t he leave” saga every fecking summer.

I think he is a one dimensional lump who we over paid for.

I would go as far as to say he is the worst starting CF I have seen in 36 years watching United

Poor Romelu. Massively underrated.

Give Munich £70-80m for Thiago and Vidal, both available.

Get Bonucci, £25m or Chiellini on a free transfer

Rondon, £16m. Would be a good back up target man. PL experienced. 1 in 4 for West Brom. Heart like a lion. Better player than RL.

1 of Bale £90-100m, Malcom £40m, Rodrygo £44m

Best nonsense:word count ratio I've seen in a long time.

This is one of the problems that comes from relying on preconceived notions of a player rather than actually forming your opinion over a sustained period based on the evidence of what actually happens.

God I love football manager fans that think it's as easy as throwing money at teams players

Quite. And can you imagine how much worse we'd be at the start of next season if we actually started with that mad collection of players all chucked into the team together with a couple of weeks or pre-season together at best? Mental.

What happened with Savic? I remember a month ago everyone saying he was going to be our player. Even posters used to put him in our future line-up with Alderweireld and Sandro... Now, no one continue talking about him.

Lazio overpriced him all the way to the moon for absolutely no reason and now no one looks interested. Even though there are some Madrid links around, somewhere...

Is he genuinely top tier or is he this season's Belotti who was also somehow worth 100 million last summer?

Lazio priced him out of the market. Wouldn’t touch him at the rate asked. 60-70m max. More pressing needs. Fred is a much better signing for team balance.

Agreed. Price seems outlandish. There would appear to be much better value in the market.

Don't even know where to start with this.

1) Bonucci had only moved to AC Milan last season and he is the captain. And he has previously stated that he wants to stay in Italy iirc.

2) Rondon, the starting forward of a relegated PL side? Are you a WUM? Surely his "lion heart" wasn't enough to avoid relegation then? "Better than Lukaku" :wenger:

3) I'm willing to bet good money that the most you have seen Rodrygo was a few minutes on Youtube.

And where did you get all these prices from? You came up with this after watching the PL for 36 years.

As long as they keep winning CL's and we keep finishing second in the league, every player we sign will be a Madrid fan. Only one way to change that.

Don't understand why teams do this. Best thing they could have done is pitched him slightly under market rate and started a bidding war. Now they'll have to wait until the last week of the window, lower the price after everyone's already done their business and try and get a replacement in before the window shuts.

Don't think they'll be able to keep him much longer as they can't even offer him CL football.

Probably because we've got Fred, which means we don't really need him, unless we're changing formation or Pogba is leaving.

I personally dont think any of the above is going to happen and believe our midfield three will be Pogba, Fred and Matic.

If we are going to sign another midfielder, it will most likely be a promising midfielder.

That was mental, wasn't it? I couldn't believe some were keen to spend that on him as well. Seems like he a flash in the pan, bigtime. Imagine if we'd blown £80m or something on him that summer?! Jesus.

I know next to nothing about this player, yet he is the one I’d most like to come in this summer for some inexplicable reason...

He is a great midfielder, even Madrid is linked with him. I think he will sign for Juventus.

I honestly can't believe we (the newspapers at least) are talking about 100-150m for Sergej without any reactions on how much money that is for a player that 90% have never seen play or even knew about 6 months ago.

I think it's more the fact that he's an important player for them, and if they want to continiue to push Juve for the title, they need to keep their best players.
£100-150 mill is what it takes for them to consider selling, they need enough money to find a good replacement - or strenghten the squad for.

If we need another CM, and this guy is quite similar to Pogba, wouldn't it be better to go for someone like Veratti, if he is actually available and unhappy at PSG?
Or is he too similar to Fred? - not seen enough of Fred to know much about him, but from what i read on here, it sounds a bit Verattiesque.

I got extremely weirded out the first two times I read this.

I'd expect a young talent for depth will be our last midfield signing and Savic to end up at Juve. Probably for the best because on paper Matic, Pogba and Fred should be a very balanced midfield for us.

We should get Verratti £90m half pays for FFP and half towards wages on future buys for PSG, even if he's injured Matic can jump in.

He is not top tier at the moment, but his potential is clear to see and he could reach said tier. The problem for me is that he is still inconsistent (which is understandable, but considering how much he'd cost and how it may be now or never for José I think he'd be too big of a risk) and is just as lazy/lost in defence as Pogba but doesn't get exposed as much as Pogba does due to playing alongside Lucas and Parolo who both had good seasons, so I don't think he'd compliment our current midfield. Unless Fred is a beast defensively like Kanté which, from my limited knowledge of said player, I don't think he is, but who knows!

Having watched nearly all of Lazio's games last year I wouldn't sign him based on what we need more as a priority, how much he'd cost, and how I think we'd need a different type of CM to compliment Pogba, Matic and Fred. Unless we revert to a diamond formation which I don't think is likely. Even if we did play said formation, I'd prefer his teammate in Luis Alberto who is one of the most creative players in the world (he'd probably be our most creative alongside Pogba - I'd say he's on par or even better creativity wise) and was Lazio's best player for me this year. The problem with L.Alberto is that he may be a bit too lightweight which is unfortunate. Some of his throughballs and scooped balls over the top are amazing - Lukaku would have a field day.

Is this the same Luis Alberto that flopped at Liverpool?

Yeah, as @giorno said he's matured a lot this season. Savic may get all the headlines and Immobile may get all the goals, and whilst they're rightly being praised, I think L.Alberto should get a lot more than he does. For me, he was their most important player this year; more so than the other two, in my opinion.

When they went counter attacking, he was great at holding up the ball, playing the right passes, driving the ball forwards and even scoring himself as a sort of SS. When they went to a more possession based approach, he was great at dictating the play and playing some amazing killer passes. They could play both styles to a good standard and he was a key reason as to why, in my opinion.

He also seems like a big winner. Always trying to the end - never happy with himself making the odd bad decision even if they're like 3/4 goals up with a minute to go. A very vocal player on the pitch.
Yeah. Watch them buy him back for a big fee and him to lit up the PL

Matured and now he's amazing
The fact that you are echoing my thoughts is nice as you're a very knowledgeable poster - especially when it comes to Serie A (& La Liga of course). :)

Straight swap for Tony M
I was going to say I couldn't see Martial fitting in anywhere with the formation they play but realised that if F.Anderson joins West Ham which is looking likely, and we of course get Savic in return, he could play as a 10/SS which I believe he'd like as he wants to play more central, right? With L.Alberto permanently taking up the deeper CM role as an 8 that Savic occupies.

I'd like to see Martial in a role like that but I think it'd be a bad decision on our part. Even if José isn't too keen on Martial, I still think he'd be of more use to us next season than Savic. Who knows, though - I guess it all depends on who José gets so we'll have to wait and see.

I've read today that Milinkovic Savic has agreed to join Juventus. I haven't read a fee price but I bet it is nothin near the price we are quoted.

IF the move to Juventus is true, then I bet they paid no more than £50m. They often don't spend huge amounts. If we tried to buy him, guaranteed we'd be asked for double that.

What I don't understand is that if we really want him and Juve agreed £50m (for example), why couldn't we just bid £5-10m more? I wonder how much we relly wanted him and how much was paper talk. Or if perhaps it was a choice between him OR Fred.

Rodgers basically never gave him a chance. Committee signing that he never wanted.

If those poverty Italian bargain bucket feckers get him for €50m I'll be pissed.

Can't see why Lazio would sell during World Cup.

They have the potential to get a few more million in for him for Serbia.

They won't. Lotito is notorious for running hard bargaind and is not afraid to sit a player out, no matter who it is, unless he gets exactly what he wants

And he's even harder with other italian clubs

Far as Milinkovic is concerned, him agreeing to join juventus is nothing more than that. He'd go there, provided Juventus strike a deal with Lazio. He'd go to United or Real Madrid or anywhere else just as well. He wants a big club playing in CL and for big trophies.

I thought there was some sort of unwritten custom that Italian teams were happier to sell to each other to keep to league competitive as opposed to selling abroad? I seem to remember that sort of rhetoric during the Bonucci to Milan stuff.

Ibrahimovic and Pirlo comes to mind.
