That's what I think too, they occupied the same role pretty much.
Tbf the quality of football will improve when we stop trying to shoehorn players into the team. Signing players for positions/roles we actually need on the other hand could improve us. Unless we intend to play Pogba as a 10, or Pogba is leaving, Savic makes little to no sense.
Yeah, plenty managed to convince themselves that they'd be a good fit together though. Don't think either would have played to their full potential in a midfield of them and Matic.
No point in paying that kind of money for a Pogba clone. I'd rather get Fred done, then focus on the full backs

Juve said the same thing regarding his price. Lazio will sell for less than 100 mill and we'll be interested when the price comes down. It's just part of the process.
The rumours all along have been Fred & SMS are both wanted by us, not either or. Sounds like we've almost done the first part but SMS was always going to be the long game due to price and demand.

He was never worth the price and made zero sense if Pogba wasn't leaving.
€100m (£87.5m) seems quite steep if the reported valuation is true, plus with us signing Fred, who is to say he is guaranteed games everyweek. Yes you can say it's not our (the fans) money but at the end of the day, it will most likely impact on our other signings, especially if we are to sign 5-6 players!
Ideally I would like us to get the deals for Fred and if reports are true, Alderweireld and Sandro before the World Cup. Maybe a longshot but if we can then also bring in a RW and/or a RB too before the World Cup, I say then let’s see how Milinkovic-Savic performs at the WC and that way we have some time before the summer window shuts to negotiate a good deal if his performances at the WC convinces us to sign him.
Yes it’s hard to judge a player based on a single tournament and we should have already done our homework by now to know if he is good enough for us, but let’s say he has an exceptional WC and we were still uncertain of him prior to the tournament, then maybe we should pay up the fee Lazio demand. Issue is his valuation may go up and other big teams like Real and PSG may start sniffing about. Not sure even those 2 clubs would be willing to pay €100m.
We definitely need another midfielder to come in alongside Fred but don't think we should be spending any more than £55-£65m on another midfielder unless an exceptional and proven player becomes available. I'm talking about the likes of Kroos, Thiago and Verratti.

A player we will 100% regret passing on top clubs are interested there is a reason for that.

Di Marzio wrote he is too expensive for a backup option considering a midfield 3 of Matic, Pogba and Fred are his starters.

Romano ( who works with Di Marzio unless I'm mistaken) has said that we have enquired about him and are playing the waiting game. So I think it's a bit early to write off this transfer. I think signing both Fred and Savic has been the club's aim all along.
If we can financially afford to make this deal, after we complete the transfers that are our more pressing concerns I'd be all for bringing this guy. I don't like to go into next season depending on Pogba too much.

I think so too. This could probably signify us moving to a kind of diamond system akin to what Jose played in the last year of his first stint at Chelsea and also at times at Inter.
Sanchez and Lukaku would probably be the 2 who play up top, with Rashford and Lingard as back ups, it would also eliminate the need to buy an attacker and the money will be used for full backs and CB.

They saw how much we spend on Pogba. If other top clubs join in, why not? PSG would buy him if they werent restricted by the Mbappe transfer.

If we get Fred then realistically we probably don't near another best 11 midfielder, certainly not a hugely expensive one in which case a cheaper but good rotation player like talisca as a pogba back/cam would probably make more sense.
That's sad really. I would have thought with these two quality additions, Martial's game could improve. I mean, better midfield better attack.
Book balancing should not be what drives Man Utd with regards to transfers. We have plenty of resources.

We may end up playing a 4-2-2-2 which accommodates 4 midfielders... Pogba and Savic who play forward and Matic and Fred behind. Matic won't play that many games next season... Fred could easily be used as a dynamic version for Matic in a midfield three. I think based on how Savic and Pogba work next season, we may sell Pogba the following season. Jose will expect the width to be provided by the wing backs with Sanchez and Lukaku up front and possibly Rashford and Martial rotating with them.
