"The only thing that could possibly stop this deal is a last minute attempt from Manchester United to gazump Spurs"

Getting Aurier for half the fee they got for Walker would be some coup for Spuds. That's assuming the player is going to grow up a bit, of course, but I would have thought he would.

Hope it doesn't bite us in the arse. Especially with rumours Tony might need surgery.

I wonder if we were waiting to hear about the result from the home office before making a solid move (matching the fee Spurs made).

Please not another year of the overrated shin smasher Antonio Valencia. "B-b-but, he's good defensively! Look at his crossing stats, they aren't bad!". I can't deal with him much longer.

So instead you're opting for a fullback who's about as inept offensively as our Valencia. Makes sense.

We can dream isn't it. Hopefully we do a "Willian" on Spurs like Chelsea did.

Shame we aren't signing him. Very good player, an actual upgrade on Valencia who was flagging in the second half of last season.

I think we will regret letting Aurier slip through our fingers, the player has hinted for months that United was always his preferred destination, and the asking price in today's market is a bargain.

Disappointed I am...!

From that, it looks like Aurier and Valencia are roughly the same attacking wise.

You mean the same Antonio Valencia who was our most consistent player last season?

Last year wasn't his best year, and still rivals valencia with substantial less playing time

So he's had 1 good year? And thats why everyone wants him? Also, the stats are per every 90 minutes so game time is largely irrelevant.

He can't cross either. Don't worry about it lads. We need that left sided LB.

No thanks, a model professional footballer assaulting anyone is damaging to themselves and to the club they represent but assaulting a police officer is plain stupid. Jose dont need stupid in this team.

Bear in mind Aurier is playing in a team which is far more dominant in their league than Valencia is.

He's won his appeal hence he's being allowed to enter and work in the UK.

That won't be possible. PSG and the player will have both already signed a contractual agreement with Spurs. This agreement will be subject only to the granting of a work-permit, for which Spurs will be named as the sponsoring employer

Nobody is doubting Valencia's quality, but he's 32. We can't rely on him for more than another 2 years without having a proper replacement. Darmian cannot replace him to the same quality.

23m for Aurier is an absolute snip.

I understand, but I've yet to see any evidence for Aurier being better than Valencia at the moment (which is what many are claiming).

Anyway, we have lots of capable cover at right back. Darmian, Lindelof, Bailly, Young and even Smalling and Jones can play there. They may not be as good as Valencia, but they don't need to be as that's not their regular position and will only play there when Valencia needs a rest or against easier opposition. Mourinho seems to like TFM at right back, so maybe he's our replacement.

Not fussed we've "missed out" on this. He is a good player, may well do very well at Spurs but so be it. Not like they've signed a world class player, he'd do well to replace Trippier I'd imagine.

If we did jump in, I'd trust Mourinho's judgement and see how he went. Does seem cheap, but that's cos of his off field problems. Like Costa, he'll go cheap cos he's a fruitcake and nobody wants the bother.

Love how Valencia is taking a right basing here, he is our number 1 right back by some distance and by far one of our most consistent performers. He has his faults sure, but we're in no rush this summer to replace him, we all need to relax a bit. Spurs haven't signed Messi

I've watched Aurier many times and he's way better than Valencia. He's a better crosser, better at getting into the spaces and has better instincts about when to overlap or come short. He also doesn't halt or slow down attacks by pausing with the ball and gazing into opponents eyes.

Stats don't tell the whole story.

According to Sky both United and Chelsea were interested but he chose Spurs because of Pochettino and Levy. Brilliant signing for them. A lot of people will be surprised at how good he is when he comes to the PL. One of the best RB in the game.

Ha Poch being an influence I get but why would he care about Levy? I think Levy knows he PSG owner well that's why our bid was accepted.

Some French journo has tweeted we were also offered Lucus and Di Maria, looks like PSG struggling to meet FFP.

This rationale is nuts.
Darmian, Smalling & Young are not good enough to be anywhere near a United first XI, not that is, if you have genuine aspiration to finish higher that 6th..!

This logic of "make do & mend" might be acceptable at a Championship club, but for goodness sake, Manchester United are one of the richest clubs in World football, where does this attitude come from.
I really am puzzled by the logic of a 32 year old Right winger playing at RB, and being covered by a 32 year old Left winger, because he is "capable"...!!
Surely Manchester United should have higher expectations than squad players that are "capable"...or can "fill in and do a job".

Lindelof, Bailly & Jones are CB's...so again the question is, if you have a gap at RB why are you trying to plug it with Left Wingers, Right Wingers and Centre Backs, doesn't it make so much more sense to fill that space with a bona fide RB...?

has been meh at PSG and has a really awful attitude apparently. Real trouble maker

Mourinho has said Lindelof and Bailly can play right back. If he has confidence in them to play back up there, then I see no reason why they shouldn't. Darmain is good enough to be a back up too. Mourinho also trusts Young, if he didn't he wouldn't still be here.

Career peak of Aurier is between March 2015 and March 2016.

It's better to assess a player by watching him.
