Selling Fellaini was a mistake

Giving him a new contract, rather than looking for a replacement last summer was a bigger mistake.

This, we should have waved him goodbye in the summer and been done with it.

Last time he played against Liverpool he had a passing accuracy of 30%, delighted he wasn’t there today. We haven’t missed him in the slightest since he left.

From a footballing point of view, it made no sense to reduce squad numbers in January. I think this was a business decision, and it's beginning to look like a gamble that could hurt us.

He'd have been better than Pereira today. And that's in mind of the fact that neither Fellaini nor Pereira have a future here.

Fellaini couldn’t have pressed like Pereira did in the second half.

Can’t believe we had fans in here (still secretly gutted about Mourinho) trying to use a once-in-lifetime-situation to reinforce their views on this. Ridiculous posturing.

If he was such a game changer then how come he ended up playing in China? Surely some top club would have snapped him up.

We should have kept him, and sold him in the summer. This game proved why. Or we at least should have bought a replacement for him. If Fellaini had been Smalling at the end, when Lukaku gave the cross, he would have scored for sure. He wouldn't have just let the ball pass him by out of play.

Might have been a business decision for Fellaini, money in China was obviously more important than fighting for his place. People need to let go, we haven’t missed him and these injuries will mean other players will get a chance. Like Fellaini they might not be good enough in the end but we won’t be worse off.

Just want to say that Feli would have done absolutely feck all for us this afternoon.I'm not sure how people are still running this thread, apart from a mod conspiracy.

It was the right kind of mistake.

Not sure where to post this, scored on his debut.

Selling Fellaini was some of the best transfer business we've done since SAF.

One of the most comical goals I've ever seen in professional football. The first shot was shocking but then Fellaini is allowed about four touches in the area to turn like a double decker bus and then the keeper lets in an absolute pee roller.

Pathetic.

Personally i think we missed him vs psg. Their defence would never have been able to handle his chest control.

I can understand both sides of the argument on whether he should have been sold in January.

Why does everything have to boil down to people having an agenda on Mourinho, Ole, Poch, and whatnot? Why the need to keep lambasting someone who gave us a few great moments and never put a foot wrong in terms of professionalism?

By the way, I think he may have been useful against PSG but not the Pool game. That cross Pereira blocks soon after coming on? Fellaini is never getting to that ball.

1) No he wouldn't score for sure
2) Would he have even been in the same position?
3) Assuming he was in the exact same position, maybe he would have been exhausted
4) Maybe he would have been sent off at that point
5) If we're playing stupid games of ifs and buts, then why not being back any player to be in that situation instead of Fellaini.

I shouldn't get wound up by stupid posts, but what the hell? Was this satire? Jesus.

Say what you like; buying Fellars ended up being Moyes' biggest achievement at United.

Well, maybe behind equalizing against Fulham.

He'd be a much better option than Pereira or Fred for sure. Stating the obvious.

Selling RVP was a mistake.
Selling Nani was a mistake.
Selling Rafael was a mistake.
Even selling the snake Di Maria was a mistake (should have let him rot).

But selling Fellaini was never a mistake. Great professional and great attitude, some good performances, but he isn’t right for our brand of football. We have to move on.

I will say selling Nani was a massive mistake. We've stil haven't replaced him. Valencia.....:wenger:

It's quite interesting that all 4 players were sold by 1 manager - LVG! and Fellaini outlived all these players and 3 managers!! amazing

Valencia was fine as a winger. Pre and post leg break, fantastic servant of the club. Don't let his last few years as a bad RB fool you.
I kinda disagree. I think he's the worst winger I've ever seen. When he was a winger. Every single match. Runs down the wing, fake going left, goes right , cross it, defender heads it out, repeat. That's why he hasn't been a winger since. He's been an ok RB, but his attacking sense still hasn't improved. Never a goal threat, or even a threat ever. Scores once a year if he's lucky. BUT, he was great before the big injury. His crosses were so on target. I preferred him over nani once. But nani was always a threat, he takes shots from anywhere and makes the keeper work. His had great dribbling skills. I'm not going to go to much into nani. But it's nothing short of luck Valencia lasted this long.

He had 1 season and maybe half another where he had some good delivery into the box. The rest was plenty of effort and no quality

So just to be clear... Antonio Valencia... not Obertan, or Bebe, or whoever... but Antonio Valencia - who once got 16 assists in one season, and subsequently got voted as our player of the year... is the worst winger you've ever seen?

Sounds reasonable.

We're too sentimental as a club. Even good servant needed to be moved on at a certain point. Extending the likes of Young and Jones is almost similar to me

I'd still add one season as RB where he was still solid. Overall though, he should have been sold a while ago

selling Fellaini was a land mark transfer, it made a statement that his style was not acceptable, he never was a 'united' player, and should count himself lucky to have worn the famous shirt.

Why is 31 a famous number?

No wonder we played crap football and couldn’t challenge for the title during that period. We kept selling the wrong players. Fellaini should have been sold the next minute after he signed.

Why would you even reply such a stupid comment. It always takes a few years for people to diminish the quality of players that were outstanding during their time.
