Selling Fellaini was a mistake

He may be gone and we may be doing well. But I just don't miss the guy.

This thread makes me so angry, we were 11 unbeaten and couldn't dream of a better start under Ole and as soon as one game goes wrong against world class opposition suddenly we need Felliani to pump it to. OP you've let yourself down with this one.

You've been trolled, friend.

Hopefully McT steps up today, but this thread could be prophetic. It says something that post-Fellaini, McT is the player I would have reluctantly picked to start too

My biggest fear is coming true. We lost one of our trio for a month and now our best sub there is Scott. Selling Fellaini midway in the season without replacing him was a terrible mistake.

I’ve faith in Scotty Mac, there’s a calmness about him. Expect him to do well tonight.

Was waiting for this monster to pop up.

He wouldn’t suit the way we try to play now in the slightest. He’s poor as a lone sitting midfielder (where Matic plays) and he lacks the mobility to press in the position we use Herrera (if indeed it’s him at the base today). Being a better individual footballer than McTominay doesn’t make him a better fit for a Solskjaer team that wants to play attacking football and press the opposition in midfield.

Playing Fellaini in our midfield today would strip apart the dynamism we’ve finally been able to watch since we sacked the poisonous one. Good riddance.

Why?

He was a total liability, he would be a disaster today.

How is this thread still going?

If we had to play kids in midfield because of injuries, selling Fellaini still wouldn't be a mistake.

Fecking state of this place, bloody hell.

Fellaini served you well and gave everything whenever he was asked. Show him some respect.

Of course once your players starting dropping like flies then having sold any player in January can come back to bite you.

I wouldn't have been any more confident coming into today's game with Fellaini at DM though.

Both number 10’s injured. Two CM’s injured. It was a mistake, period.

Imagine using a once-in-a-lifetime (literally) occurrence to continue to parade your whopping point.

A bigger crime is the absolute lack of ambition to even try to sign a player or two for squad padding in January, when it was clear Ole would launch a challenge for 4th spot and the season wasn't a write-off. Yes, it's difficult, but Chelsea tried and got Higuain, so it's not impossible.

And offering the likes of Mata an extension.

I'm keeping my criticism reeled in until the summer to see if we continue a tightwad policy. RW, CB, FBs and midfield all need reinforcements.

How about going after the board not investing in the squad in January, how about put that question to the board in the summer and in January they spent very little. All they have done is extend contracts to players not good enough, to save them spending money on new players. We need serious investing in this squad, not moaning oh it was a mistake letting fellaini go, damn right we should let fellaini go along with a long line of players still at this club, who shouldn’t be here. So I would say the board should be adding top class players in the last three transfer windows, because today is showing we don’t have the depth. Selling fellaini was not a mistake, not adding new players with the lack of signings in the summer and the last two january transfer windows is the question I would ask, esp when we spent hardly anything in the summer. If we don’t see major investment in the summer, the board need to be really put on the spot, because they making a fortune with very little return on player recruitment

McTominay playing well says otherwise.

Selling him was not necessarily a mistake but why on Earth we didn't hold on to him until the PSG, Chelsea and Liverpool games is beyond me. We could've still sold him after it with the Chinese transfer window closing at the end of February. Our squad depth is shocking as made evident today.

No matter how many injuries we get, Fellaini is still shite. Good riddance

That is more the point, not the selling of Fellaini, but not replacing Fellaini and also wasting £50m on a player neither manager trusted. A £50m midfielder should be starting every game.

The timing was awful if we were not going to replace him with another player. He definitely had to go, but summer would have done.

Ole wasn’t going to play him. Mctominay or Pereira would have still been ahead of him.

Giving him a new contract, rather than looking for a replacement last summer was a bigger mistake.
