Sekou Kone

Glad he’s back. I’ll be keeping a close eye on him as I reckon he could have been the most important business we did last summer.

Yes, there’s definitely a slot for him in the first team squad if he can finish the season strongly etc. Will be interesting to see if he can impress Amorim and get an opportunity. Z

What are you basing this on though?

The fact that we’ve only got one or two centre midfielders and need 5 or 6, so plenty of scope for a youth team player to step up if they perform well etc

Muppetiers have been saying for ages that Sekou Kone is a player that INEOS hope will be first team squad next season, yet the reality seems to be that he is miles away, based on what little I've seen so far and those comments from Travis Binnion don't hint at a quick promotion.

He may be PL standard eventually but I'm struggling to see why he would be PL quality as a teen or even very early 20s. He will be 19 in a few days.

It was pretty obvious from Day 1 that he is far from ready. He's rake thin.

If he had a few minutes at the senior level, I bet he would be snapped in half playing against men. Will take him another 18 months before he is physically ready.

Even Amad who spent his formative years in Italy wasnt physically ready when he first arrived at United.

Well I for one am shocked that a rake-thin teenager who doesn't speak a word of English and has only ever played in Africa isn't immediately ready to start in the centre of our midfield.

You'd think people on here would learn something about football, if only by 'osmosis', but apparently not - probably because there are more nutters than sensible folk

We've got more CM's than that obviously but you don't just chuck an extremely inexperienced young lad in simply based on what position he plays.

Or you could say the same for every other CM we have in the U21's and U18's.

I'm not sure why some seem eager to rush his development. Let him first get physically up to speed with his fellow under 21. Then his talent will come through. It's very clearly there. Its also quite laughably anyone actually thinks any young player would need 18 months to catch up physically. Like they have no access to top class gyms, physical trainers and nutritionists at that level. Frankly at that age only the risk of injury is a hindrance.....

An article from the MEN on Amad's initial struggle. He was lucky he had the faith and development talent of Mowbray.

It could easily have taken a different turn.

Yeah I meant in a role similar to Collyer is playing this season, but hopefully with stronger adult players ahead of him - which we may have next season, hopefully.

It's pronounced "Osimhen"

You can see the talent is there - but he looks so unpolished. And you can get away with that as a winger or a striker - but as a central midfielder that will cost you. Having said that - I like that we try to pick up players like that rather than try to sign them for £80-100 million from Brighton

I really like his profile and he has some really premium traits for a midfielder but he just looks slightly weak and is still playing like he has a bit more time on the ball than he does. All in all, its much better to be lacking in strength, which can be developed, than in press resistance or passing vision.

Think he’s a top prospect. Let him grow up and acclimatise. Will take him some time, but he won’t be able to be a player for us until he can first compete as a man. He has wonderful composure on the ball and can carry it, pass it and tackle. He will certainly get stronger in time and I think we’ll start to see a real player in a year or two.

Give him 12-18 months. Said before, but I have a feeling he could end up being the most important business we did last summer. By 20 he should be far more robust physically, and he has all the other tools for a top level defensive midfielder. Graceful on the ball, tenacity, plays off both feet and covers ground with speed.

Massive over reactions as usual. He's 19 soon, and late to England. For context that's 2 years younger than collyer who only now is getting some minutes but not near starting at United. Who knows what way it will go for kone but even 2 years away that could be another year at youth, then a good loan. Why do people expect he should be ready soon or not at all. Every player is different and his development path is clearly different. If he was even coming near the first team at 23 then it's still a great signing. For the love of God have some patience

Clarity - this post is criticising all the negative write offs in recent weeks.

Massive over reactions after tonight's game? Where?

Sort of player Brighton would send off to play first team football in Belgium for a season and comes back as one of the best midfielders in the league. Loads of natural talent and just needs to refine it with match experience and practice.

Looks sharp from those clips. He glides with the ball, good to see.

Looks very easy on the eye

Looks very promising and seems good both on and off the ball. Very excited to see how he develops.

That game seemed like his "ah ha" moment, when a young player, new to this league and level, plays a game where they realise how to properly approach it. He knows the intensity, graft, timing, strength and movement needed to be effective in the English game. Now he has a baseline to work off as his minimum performance level to make the step up. It'll take time, same as it did when Caicedo came over. I think he's got it though, just need to let him develop.

Mate, where are the over reactions? Even the most optimistic post on him says he needs 12-18 months which is a fair enough observation.
