Sekou Kone

Based on the 15sec clip, my expert opinion is that he's more defensive than Pogs

How exactly do you see any similarities?
Just my first impression from that clip. I guess it’s the way he moves around the middle of the pitch, always looking to receive the ball, his range of passing, the way he rides tackles and the way he controls the ball in tight situations like it’s stuck to him.
Sekou definitely more defensive than Paul but at this point that’s not necessarily a bad thing!

From what I've seen of him in clips, it's nice to see him actively looking to move into space to receive the ball and provide an option for a pass, something which our midfielders in the first team lack for sure.

He looks super agile and happy to receive the ball on the half turn or with his back to goal. If and when he is given an opportunity with the first team, it'll be nice to have another midfielder in there alongside Ugarte who's on the front foot in terms of trying to win the ball back.

He seems to have a pretty good all round footballing IQ. Off of the ball, his positioning looks pretty good which helps him to cut off passing lanes and allows him to be one step ahead when looking to intercept/press.

What were you expecting from him coming on at half time 4-0 up?
I didn't say he needed to be impressive, I said he wasn't very impressive in that clip.

It was an observation on the clip, not a judgement on the player. I am happy that he is starting to get minutes, though. His highlight reels from his previous club were pretty impressive.

Pogba wasn't someone who did well in tight spaces, you can see in the video you shared he needs space.

Reminds me of PP, especially with number 42.
I agree - the way he feints, and strides with the ball.... he has a very Pogba-esque movement style.

That doesn't mean to say I think he plays like him, but I can absolutely see why many people think of Pogba when watching his clips.

Looks like he has that knack of being in the right place at the right time for an interception. Still raw and rash but a very talented lad.

Based on that clip and a minute or so of highlights I've seen, he's nothing like Pogba. In terms of style, gait and general approach play he's similar to Caicedo, which is obviously a good thing.

I think he looks really promising.
Seems to have great balance, strength and looks composed and nimble footed.

We won’t see him in the first team for 2 years ar the very least. No need to rush him.

You can really work out who watches the academy regularly and who doesn't after the Kone comments:lol:. Kone was decent. He has some very interesting physical tools and looks a natural in his role. When the game slows down for him, I'll be excited to see how he gets on. This is something I saw instantly with Ibragimov at every level he's played within a few games. To me, he's got a real shot at first team promotion. Also something that Kobbie showed instantly in the academy at every age level. That's the level we have to judge against for Sekou.

Will he utterly dominate at this level? (considering how some have written of his talent levels) or Will he be another promising academy player who will end up with a few appearances and moved on?

Did McTominay utterly dominate at that level? There is definitely an in between level compared to what you describe that could see him have a very good career.

You're right there can be a space in between. Someone who broke through and was sold after more than a few appearances. McTominay was super consistent in the academy but he had something that other kids didn't. An amazing physique. He wasn't as built when he broke through, but his physical qualities were always outstanding in academy level. So in a sense, he was physically dominant as an U-21.
