Sekou Kone

That is impressive. I'm sure these are the best bits so he's making mistakes that needs cleaning up, but the fundamentals look solid. He reminds me more of the modric style midfielder. Knows how to make himself available for a pass, not necessarily rapid but gets around the pitch comfortably enough.
If we let go of Eriksen and Casemiro in the summer, with all our other needs, I'll be happy with someone like Ederson coming in and Kone being the fourth option in midfield.

Suspect this guy is one of the reasons we may be open to selling Mainoo for £100m in the summer.

Unlike him, Kone looks like he could actually have the defensive strength, burst of pace and passing range to play in a midfield two for us, in addition to his quality.

Selling Mainoo would certainly be brave decision to take though, but possibly a shrewd necessary one.

Looks more powerful then he did initially.

Think it’s a bit early to be replacing the best truly home grown player to come through since Rashford, with a signing from Africa who has played a handful of U21 games. Let’s keep some tradition and not be so hasty to get rid of one of our own.

Agree he looks decent on the clips but I need to get to a few games and watch in full

Probably needs a loan out for a season first. Maybe to the championship as that’s also a physical league. Bit similar to Amad.

Would be a good idea except that he has barely been in the UK for 4 months. To send him away from Manchester would be an additional adjustment stress. I think he needs to stay at Carrington, work on assimilation, the gym, and then if he's ready to go on tour in the summer, then great. If not make send him on loan the season after next.

He has all the elements to contribute in the near future, from what I can see. But needs to bulk up first esp when he is going to play in the middle of the park.

We aren’t getting £100 million for Mainoo

He's good. Mainoo is good. Collyer is goid. But we need something better than good. I expect them all to get better, but I think Kone has it in him to be very good

Mainoo and Kone have instantly noticeable quality. Collyer looks a nothing player to me, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a future her for a while as he is the most ready to do the basics I feel - like run and keep a shape. He looks the least equipped to do anything beyond the basics though.

It is also remarkable how much better he is now than four months ago. At this pace, he could actually, given the state of our team, make a push towards the end of the season.

He also has an urgency to his game that I really hope we dont polish away.

I really think playing Collyer, in addition to lack of options, is about proving his value for the summer.

Never considered that, but that’s a possibility.

I think even Amoril mentioned the need to sell home grown players to make a profit. He is on a low salary. How much would he have to do to be a £10-15 mill player? Probably not that much.

He was signed from Mali. Africa is not a country. It is a continent. And he is one of Manchester United's. If he replaces Maninoo or Collyer, it would be because he is substantially better.

Dont think theres the slightest chance anyone bids that or that we'd be open to selling him for the amounts that teams are willing to pay, which would be more around £50 million

He looks good and I hope he gets his chance in the first team but if he does it will be at the expense of Casemiro, Eriksen and Collyer not Mainoo

as usual we think a guy is either going to be the GOAT, or a complete waste of time based on a couple of games. More examples of shortermism, which seems to be rife on this forum. The various coaches are there for a reason - they are good at their jobs, otherwise most of this forum would be football coaches, and I am sure they will be watching Kone's progress. He is certainly promising but how many times have we seen promising youngsters simply not move up that next rung? Equally we have seen kids failing to set the world alight, and yet suddenly blossom at a later date. To predict whether these kids will make it is foolish. let's just enjoy them while we can, follow their progress and quit denigrating (or over-hyping) them
Absolutely the most sensible post in here. We have people already hyping him up to replace Mainoo based off a few u-21 games, never mind how much more impressive Mainoo was at that level, or what he showed last season. It’s simply a case of already losing patience with one of the brightest talents to come out of our academy in recent times, and looking to replace him with another. Then when he struggles briefly, it’s on to the next one, ad Infinitum. It’s predictable and depressing.

I’d love to see Kone succeed here and I do like what I see, but it’s far too early to predict how good he’ll be - or if he’ll even make it - just like it’s far too early to be turning on Mainoo, a 19 year old who was arguably our player of the season last season. As you say it just shows how fickle and ridiculous some of the narratives in here are.

We'd be willing to sell any player on this team if a 100m bid comes in! There's no way anyone is offering that for Kobbie right now though.

He deserves to play a few minutes in our League Games. Can help our midfield to knock it around better. No harm trying, he looks mobile, decent passer and intercepter.

His U21 coach just said he's not fit enough for that level never mind Premier League.

Kid looks really good. But yes, with that type of opposition. If the coach deems not fit, they probably know better. More intensity, more rhythm, less time to think, no need to rush him and put him in a bad spot. Ruben will chose the right moment.

He has potential. He shows it now and then. But give the kid time to develop properly. He is needs to play with U21st for the rest of the season minimum while working on his physic and getting used to being abroad. You could consider rewarding some of this good performances and pricatices with a few practices with the first team but that should also stop there. No reason to put too much stress and pressure already

Who's worth more right now, Kobbie or Garnacho? Perception is everything. A few weeks ago, I would have said Kobbie. Now however, I think it has to be Garnacho.

Kone is the reason we might sell Mainoo, but we won't sell Mainoo cause no one will offer us a lot of money, but we are playing Collyer mostly so that someone will buy him in the summer. That's okay though cause Collyer is a "nothing player" and we should bring Ederson in and have Kone as our 4th choice midfielder.

All this sparked by a lad we just signed from Mali settling into the u21s a bit better.

If we were playing well, we wouldn't be so desperate. Right now, every position for us is a comic show that gives rise to these opinions.

Sell one of our best first team midfielder for an academy player who has only played in under 21s.

Brave isn’t the word I’ll describe this.

So you agree with me then he is from Africa, as I am from the United Kingdom? I was only less specific as I did not know what country in the continent of Africa he was from.
My point is that Mainoo was schooled at Manchester United from age 8 and so continues the tradition of every match day squad containing a home grown academy player.
Kone and Collyer are signed in players and therefore would not continue that club tradition.
I wish him well by the way, but let him settle in, learn the game, and develop before we put Mainoo up for sale and throw the kid in at the deep end.

Jesus this forum. So now Mainoo is no good and should be sold. Replaced by another kid who played few games for youth team…till he has second season.

I remember Giggs bursting onto the scene in early 90s. In 94 incredible…in 95 this place would have sold to Blackburn and replace with Roy Wegerley.

Mainoo is outstanding young player. Perfectly normal for second season. Normal for young player to struggle with intensity. He 19 YEARS OLD. Sell him now and regret it when he 24. Or just have some bloody patience

Good post. Let's temper the expectations a little bit. The jump from youth football to mens football is massive

Looks good. Need to develop physically but any midfield player with ability under pressure and passing nous gets a thumbs up from me. Not a big fan of players in the central midfield who cannot pass the ball or aren't good when pressured.

For what its worth Mainoo looked a world beater at youth level. He's developing well at Men's level, but still need work on certain areas. Selling him or the thought of selling him is blowing my mind.

Kone looks to be settling in which is great, but Let's give him a chance to get his feet under him. Comparing him to Mainoo is hilarious.

Obviously if you combine loads of different people's opinions into one composite opinion it will be contradictory.

Granted many of the individual opinions are ridiculous on their own.

Mainoo started a major European final just six months ago. Sorry to be so blunt, but this isn't even close IMO.
So what? That doesn't mean much, especially when you put it in context.

He's not doing well and is probably one of the first positions we will replace in summer.
