This is achingly similar to when Liverpool tried to bring back the good times by hiring a club legend in Dalglish, then spending a good fortune on a bunch of average British players.

 if we get James, Sessegnon, Collins, Longstaff , AWB and Sancho. #brexitmeansbrexit
Forget about Sancho this summer. I would actually be happy with all those signings. Possibly Pedro too and maybe one or two big names like Rakitic/Isco/Maguire.

A year ago nobody knew who Rice/Hudson-Odoi/Sancho/Van de Beek/De Ligt were. Every big club in the country would love to have them now.

I can see him being a deep-lying playmaker in the coming seasons. His passing with either foot is very good.

Very true, also when we played Ajax in the EL final De Jong wasn’t even in the starting 11 and look where he is now. We also have to give them time to develop so we can reap the benefits.

Dream brexiteers signings:
  1. Sancho
  2. Wan Bissaka
  3. Maguire
  4. Longstaff
  5. Rice
  6. Daniel James
  7. Sessegnon
Wouldn't say no to that summer tbf. Sort out long term and current right wing and right back, long term big potential (and energy) in midfield and the wings for quality depth, and then an improvement in CB (even though I'm not crazy on him). Tbf it's probably just Sancho that makes this a good summer!

Am I for this signing, this kid looks great

Who?

Not gonna be like a lot on here and write him off because he's English, but it would surely be a bench signing? We need world class players.

It seems we're going a different route. Which I was all for at one stage, but i wasn't picturing us raiding the championship for half our recruits! It's making me nervous in a sense that, should these players flop aswell, then they could really drag us down the table. If you sign mid table and championship players, you can expect to end up a mid table team. Hopefully somebody has done their homework and they're ready to step up a few levels.

I don't see the point due to Garner. Why would we not prioritize Garner instead of buying him who is also unproven?
Garner also plays box to box. He might end up more of a Scholes than a Carrick. Then Longstaff can be the Carrick. And McTominay the Fletcher. Maybe something like that.

I don't see Garner restricted in that manner. He could stay back as a DM and still pass through the lines like Carrick did. And we don't necessarily need another Carrick. There's also Gomes who could develop into a Scholes type of midfielder.

How are we going to develop all these midfielders?

I like the look of him tbh. Looks a very good passer but also a quick thinker. Got injured a few months into becoming a regular, but clearly a talented midfielder IMO.

I really do not get it. We have players in the academy who are probably better than Longstaff and James. It is all just rumors at this point but, this transfer policy is not making much sense.

Who? Pereira & Chong?

Won’t hurt spending 15m or 20m on each of them. But spending 50m on Fred & 40m on Matic or how much Liverpool did on Carroll & Downing is what I call it hurt.

£40 million?! For someone who’s only made 8 appearances in the PL? That seems insane. Then you add he’s coming off an injury. Doubt anyone has even heard of him a year ago.

Messi has 0 appearances in the PL.

Not saying if Longstaff came, he won’t come good or be successful here. Just that figure seems pretty high is all, for the reasons stated. And the nerve of you Grylte to eyeroll me. You just compared Longstaff to Messi ffs!

9 PL appearances. Is our interest based on his form for Blackpool?

I certainly hope we aren’t betting on these type of signings to carry us next season. If we are taking a punt on a couple of these players, then fine. But we need to buy proven talent in the age range of 22-26.

These are rumours at this stage, but if this is the strategy we will follow, it may get a whole lot uglier before it gets better.

Rumours are we are selling 6/7 players, not all the replacements will be superstars, we have room to make signings for younger players we can develop, a strategy which we were always known for.

We should be trying to sign the best young players.

Like who? Don't say someone like De Ligt as although he's young he already falls in the 'superstar' category. If it were upto most here we would never have signed the likes of Ronaldo, Evra, Vidic etc.

I wouldn’t mind being wrong, but I think this whole strategy of buying young unproven British players is a recipe for disaster. The last time I felt this way about our club we had appointed David Moyes as manager. Now we are trying to buy players using the same mindset which lead us to appoint Moyes manager 6 years ago: sentimentality, admiration for hard work, same nationality as SAF, but total disregard to his qualifications, experience at a high level, competence as a manager, and trophies won.

Evra had just played in the CL finals with Monaco. Ronaldo is more akin to Joao Felix. Vidic was more like De Ligt, except without the CL hype. Captain at his young age and won domestic titles.

Exactly right. Solskjær is the Norwegian Moyes. Any club with any ambition would have sacked him with a 2 wins in 14 record. Especially after failing to beat already relegated Huddersfield and Cardiff.

To put it into perspective, Brighton sacked Chris Hughton and his form was better.

We went from being linked with the likes of Sandro, Perisic, Koulibaly, Alderweireld and Willian under Mourinho... to being linked with James, Longstaff, Collins and Sessegnon. If you told me a Premier League team wanted those guys, I’d think you were talking about Norwich City.

We are destined for an 8th to 10th finish at this rate. It’s infuriating because Conte and Allegri are RIGHT THERE and we’re allowing this Glazer yes man to send us into an even bigger mess than we’re already in. I’m sorry, no amount of goals he scored is gonna make me think otherwise. The Glazers love this “buy cheap youngsters and use the academy” mentality. They don’t have to spend a penny.

Mourinho should have been given the time to change it. The board had no right to interfere with his Ins and Outs. But that’s another topic.

And Vidic and Evra were 24 at the time. So they were not prospects.

Who are these 6/7 players we are selling, BTW?

Seems like a good player, but I don't know why I have a feeling he is injury prone... like he will be Phil Jones of midfielders... huge potential hampered by injuries.
