Seamus Coleman

Oh sorry, I meant ex-poster Scholesy. He said if United replaced Rafael with Coleman they deserved to get relegated.
Hmmm I can only assume he is an ex poster for some sensible comments that all us lunatics disagreed with..........

Scholesy says Anderson is a left back, so he's the best authority on fullbacks. If he thinks signing Coleman means we get relegated, I'm sure he's correct

Was brilliant again today and that piece of skill late on was fantastic. By far the best RB in the league this season.

How well are Everton playing right now... They are outstanding, i hope they nick the fourth..

They were taking the piss out of Arsenal today. It was yet another embarrassing performance from Arsenal. Credit to Everton though, they're playing superb stuff and Coleman is at the heart of a lot of it.

If Everton get into the Champs League why would Coleman leave them? Not to say I don't think that one of the big four will try to sign him. Wouldn't be surprised even if an Italian or Spanish team came in for him.

I could see a Fellaini/Baines type situation develop where Coleman is worth way more to Everton than he would be to any of the big four, meaning the price tag they place on him is way too high.

Hardly that late. Was playing for Sligo at 18 and moved to Everton at 20.

Considering most Irish players playing in the Premier League move across to England when they're in their early to mid teens, moving to Everton at 20 means he's a bit of a late developer. Not as late as the likes of Hoolahan/Fahey but late all the same.

He is worth every penny of a 25mil transfer. Without a shadow of a doubt.

I think you'll find the number of Irish lads being taken in by English youth academies has significantly reduced over the last 10 years. It's normal enough now for a player to be brought over in their late teens. Why didn't you mention McClean or Doyle?

What age was Roy Keane when he joined Forest?

I'm not sure what you guys are arguing against me about? I made a point about him being a late developer, as someone was surprised about him being 25.

I just mentioned Fahey and Hoolahan as they were the first to come to mind.

Whoa.. slow down on the defensive role bro! You made a point which was unfounded. Plus Coleman has been the best right back in the Prem since he was 23.. He didn't just materialise this year. It just so happens he now plays under a manager that allows him to have a bit more freedom going forward. Don't understand your late developer remark to be completely honest. 25 is a perfect time to start coming good.

How was it unfounded? The vast majority of Irish lads playing in England will have gone over at an early age. That's a fact. Coleman was still playing Gaa on a Saturday and soccer on a Sunday at 18! Therefore he can be considered a late developer.

Coleman can be considered a late developer in the same fashion we can judge Smalling a late developer. Both played at a relatively low level beyond the average age of promotion to the standard they both play at now. The best Irish players tend to join British clubs in their young teens, it is rare to see a twenty-something join a Premier League team from a league of Ireland side, and to develop at this incredible rate. Coleman can without a doubt be considered a late developer.

Well put.

A while ago, I would have flat out rejected the idea of replacing Rafael with Coleman.

I'm not so sure now. Coleman and a new Left Back like Shaw would be a fantastic prospect IMO.

Problem is I'd probably have two CMs, a LB, a CB and a wide player ahead of RB in the list of priorities. So while Coleman would be a nice addition I can't see how we'd justify spending big money on him with so much work to do elsewhere.

The only advantage Coleman has over Rafael is that he doesn't get injured....unfortunately for Rafael that's a pretty big advantage. The lad needs to sort this injury thing out before soon or he will end up as backup.

His end product when going forward is far more consistent these days than Rafael's. I love Rafa but Seamus is making a pretty compelling case for himself. Again, though, we've far higher priorities than right full.

Superb again this evening. He's so good defensively and going forward he's excellent. Worth every bit of £25m.

He convinced me. He's worth a big fee.

I have to admit, he was damn good today. I do think he's a little one dimensional going forward. He's very much a kick and run player, but it works. Defensively, my grandmother could do well today on that right back position.
