Seamus Coleman

Why did Moyes even come to us? What's the point in that?

He is basically just buying the Everton squad, can't we just send him back there?

Baines and Fellaini were our best players last year so we demanded big money.

Coleman and McCarthy have been our best this year IMO, so we'd demand big money too, but I doubt we will sell any of Coleman/Barkley/McCarthy/Stones.

If a player leaves to get more money (which I don't think would be needed this summer) then id put money on Mirallas.
I can't tell you how great it is as an Irish fan to hear that. To have two young Irish internationals involved week in week out at the top end of the Premier League (more or less) gives such a lift to our battered international set-up.

Not a chance of ye letting him go for 15 mil and it seems crazy to splash huge money on a right back given our current woes. Pity. It would make my heart sing to see him tearing up the wing at Old Trafford.

Coleman is great but unless Rafael were leaving I'd see no point. They're both too good to be backups.

I am not sure how good Coleman is if you take away the goals. It is entirely possible that he is hitting a scoring purple patch that he will never repeat. Seems that we should be focusing attentions elsewhere.

To my mind he's a very good modern full back, in that the strongest parts of his game are his engine and going forward. I think he's good defensively without being anything close to outstanding and I also think he's guilty of overplaying in really poor areas at times. I think he'd probably end up being a bit more consistent than Rafael, if only in terms of not picking up injuries, but I don't see him as an upgrade when they're both fit and playing well.

I'd agree with that.

He's actually similar to Rafael in a lot of ways. Probably better disciplined, though. Don't think he's picked up many bookings and not sure he's ever been sent off?

Be a like for like replacement if it was one in, one out. Wouldn't improve us much at all.

Would be a great improvement on a defensively naive Rafael who needs some competition to perform well and is injury prone. £15 million would be a steal and I think a good way to improve the squad. We need a winger, CM and left-sided full-back first though.

They're a credit. Both of them have incredible stamina, i have no idea how they manage to keep playing the game at full pace for the full 90 time and time again, it's crazy. Hopefully when Gibson is back from injury he's given a decent chance under Martinez, and i also think McGeady is going to be a great option for us too, looked very bright against Cardiff on the weekend, probably deserves a start soon.

I didn't realise till just now either that the 4 players Martinez is looking at giving new deals to are Stones/McCarthy/Barkley/Coleman. Our most promising players and those whom we can build a great side around hopefully!

Id prefer to give Varela a few chances and have him on the bench for the rest of the season to see if hes capable of stepping up as cover for Rafael

"who should we get giggsy" feck off we are United stop buying flavour of the month average players"

Varela please. The kid has it.

I agree. No need to splash out on a right back when we've got a very good one and a super prospect in Varela. If next season's too early for him, there's always Vermijl who's playing regularly and doing well in the Eredivisie.

I've made this point before, but I think it is also worth remembering he was bought for £2.5m. There was clearly an intention to get him involved.

I hope its not Coleman - not because he is a bad player - quite the opposite he is a very good player but unfortunately Everton have shown over Fellaini and Baines they wont do bargain business so we will probably end up paying a world class fee for a good (but not that good player)

De Sciglio and Piszczek would be interesting options - they might actually cost less as well.

Right back is not a priority for me though - left back, a stable centre back pairing, one or possibly two central midfielders and replacement for hernandez if he goes would all be a bigger priority than right back as far as I am concerned where Rafael has not had his best season but is still a good player, jones and smalling can cover there (even valencia at a push) and varela and vermijl are options we could bring in as well.

A new RB is the third highest priority for me, after getting a high quality CM and an Evra replacement. Rafael is just injured so often, and we can never again have to play Smalling or Jones there. Just relying on Varela to progress would be crazy.
It doesn't have to be Coleman, but it's got to be someone good, who hopefully can attack well and not be as headless as Rafael can be.

Martinez has said it's bollocks anyway and I'm pretty sure all 4 will sign new deals.

Does anyone think he's a better player than Rafael? Genuine question.

I agree. Rafael does well going forward but is a bit of a liability at the back. At the very least his injury proneness is a factor - because we dont have cover. Smalling and Jones just arent full backs and having decent attacking full-backs is avery important part of the modern game, with most managers trying to get a bit of width from them.

I like Coleman, and I like the thought of having a British core to the side. We need players in various positions and I could see a right back coming in, whether its him or someone else.

How is Mata or even Fellaini a flavor of the month average player?

You should write screenplays.

If I had to pick one player from Everton it would be McCarthy. Coleman is class too however.

I genuinely never knew that Lumsden was nicknamed Lummy. Such characters our coaching staff are.

it'll be cheaper just to give them less money.

I don't want him.

Moyes, coaches, Fellaini is far too much as it is. Any more from that club and our team will end up playing the Moyes brand of boring football.
so you would say no to ross Barkley too..

Which is good as Rafael can't complete a whole season - they ll fight it out between them

Which would be fine it we had £400m to spend but presumably we don't so I don't see why we'd spend £20m+ on an upgrade to our right back where our current one is the least of our worries.

Rafael isn't good enough that's why.

We've got a lot of players who aren't good enough. Namely both our midfielders, our left back and probably our centre backs. Rafael's just not that high up the list of things we need to spend money on.
