Scott McTominay | Transfer discussion not performance discussion

I guess you are right. Hope the club will back the next manager by selling McTominay as fast as possible.
And here I thought you were up for a serious discussion other than mockery. I hope you remember these sort of decisions next time we are in meltdown. We really shot ourselves in the foot on this one.
That 30m was pretty much what’s he’s worth, should have made sure that deal got done, the manager has said he can go so that’s what should happen.

ETH won’t care whether we get 30 or 40m for him and I think it’s just a miscalculation on clubs part. Maybe West Ham come back with a better offer if they sell Paquetá but they maybe have better options at fee we are looking for.
That's the problem, if West Ham gets 80-90m their possibilities change completely.
Who? ETH?
I am thinking Murtough and Arnold, nowhere ETH thinks keeping McTominay who he rarely plays is better than money in the bank for more strengthening.
Yeah a massive blunder and starting to look like we are undoing the good work this window
True, can't believe we dropped the ball like this

Or hesitate and ask are you possibly getting that wrong?
Always. But it's an opinion which in the broadest terms, I'd wager is shared not only by the majority (obviously you'll find dissenters, even large numbers of them, but a minority %) of fans who've regularly watched him play, live or on TV/stream, regularly, but also by the majority of data analysts, from the best social media ones with PG degrees in data analysis to those writing for broadsheets, specialist publications and/or potentially lecturing.

Not that he's a 'bad' player but that (a) he has gaps in his skillset which players playing regularly for other 'top' clubs in top leagues don't and (b) that as far as we can construct what ETH's playing philosophy is, his technical profile doesn't fit into it. As far as that's quantifiable, and I'd say it is to a reasonable degree (though beyond my pay-grade) I'd genuinely stake a week's wages on it being true....

I'd be amazed if he isn't a West Ham player by September 2nd.

He's as much a Moyes player as Maguire and Ward-Prowse.

Rice and Lanzini have already left, Flynn Downes looks to be going to Southampton, question marks over Paqueta also.

Please just do a Maguire and up the bid by £10m again which suits both parties nicely. Will be able to afford it easily when Paqueta joins City

I meant the bit where you think he's protected more than any other player. Primarily by SAF.

That's tinfoil hat stuff surely.

How he continues to survive every transfer window, and United supporters that actually think he offers something boggles my mind. Most games he rarely gets on the ball and he makes weaker Premier league midfields look better than ours. He should he shipped out.

Yeah so stupid not taking West Ham offer

We're apparently trying to pinch Gabri Veiga and are being linked to Samarzdic. Certainly points to us selling Paqueta.

If we get another 5 mil out of them then great the tactic worked but the risk isn't free, if we don't shift him this summer we're paying his wages and losing value on him. I wouldn't be surprised if we had to drop it to 15-20 mil next window which is a huge cost.

This, and his oafishness includes a robustness that would be useful in a positionally smarter , more agile and braver (on the ball) player, which means he's invariably available - antithesis of Martial...

I'm sorry to say it, but we know one of his biggest supporters -the one who personally intervened to have him choose Scotland, the one who probably saw another Fletcher in him through the sentimental eyes of not having to make pragmatic decisions anymore - was SAF. Who of course is still advising ETH on and off, as well as on the board (however 'hands' off, we know Arnold has been sourcing his advice too) - on the whole, I'm glad the great man is still involved in some capacity, but I think, aside from the other issues around institutional culture this is one instance where he might have a blind spit which is tipping the balance towards the club overvaluing McT....
I have read some bad posts lately, but this must be among the worst.
McT gets preferential treatment because of SAF. Interesting.
A mystery why the club then didn’t listen to SAF when it came to much much more costly decisions. SAF created the ideal situation for Moyes to get rid off Rooney in 2013, instead the club under Moyes offered Rooney a 300 k, 6 year deal.
SAF and Sir Bobby didn’t want Mourinho, but the club hired him.
To complete the expensive Hattrick of failures Mourinho made Pogba our club record signing, the same Pogba who left for free under SAF.
So if SAF has the influence you imply, why did the club do the opposite of what he wanted/recommended?
But somehow, 10 years after his retirement the club are listening to him about the academy player McT who is on relatively low wages.
You don’t like McT, fair enough. But your conspiracy theory on this doesn’t make any sense and gets worse the more you write on it.

Yeah wasn't worth turning down for £5m

I think that even if the bid was accepted same day West Ham was still running parallel options and the JWP move was further along, they might not have followed through.
I don't about that but once you put in an official bid and if its accepted you shouldn't have an option not to follow through. No one will ever take you seriously and the selling club should be able to hold you to that bid. I don't think you can just withdraw it once submitted.

Precisely we messed up massively

Wasn't this dead as soon as WH signed Alvarez? I've been away for a week so a bit surprised to see people still expecting him to leave, given WH signed an alternative. With Fred gone we'll have absolutely feck all in midfield if we sold McTominay too. Mainoo won't be relied upon in any real way and will probably get cameos only.

Maybe so and I'm sure there's a couple regulations in the book about it but you can always stealth retract by not working out the personal terms with the player after that, I'd imagine.

Can’t see this happening. If only because McSauce just doesn’t cut it as a nickname in the east end. They’re more used to stuff like Three Nans Stan and Steve the Sleeve.

If this stops us getting another midfielder then we have every right to lose our shit

They will if they’re good enough.
Yep, but even if that is the case, McTominay's value will likely depreciate from not playing any football. I hope this is just a premature report from Sky. There's no reason why we shouldn't entertain offers for him if somebody comes in with a good bid before the end of the window.

We'll get a midfielder in once Fred and Donny leave but should have still sold McTominay as he's a total liability and nowhere near good enough even as a squad option.

:wenger:

We are already on track to sell/loan/end loans of 10 first team players of last season, without Mctominay being sold.
Not selling a squad player says absolutely nothing about ambition. It’s nonsensical.

Under normal circumstances I’d be all for letting McT go but looking at our midfield and how un-athletic and weak it is I’d be inclined to keep McT. Especially with the chance Fred goes. There are going to be games when we will need someone to do a physical job in there and too often last season people just ran through our midfield and away from them and I’m not convinced Mount is the answer to that.

Maybe ETH has faith in Hannibal and Mainoo to step in and cover this issue or we but someone else on top of Amarabat.

Another 5m or 10m would be handy but it won't be of any use if you can't then have enough time to process the signing of a desired replacement. You can actually see Amrabat's camp getting itchy feet and starting to hear links of him to Juve and Atleti, it means that if we ever sell him we might find our desired signing snapped up a la KMJ who we didn't pursue because we didn't sell Maguire in time.
