I don’t care what people think but to me he is better than Oshea and Fletcher. Those two under the managers Mctominay has been playing under would look bang average.
He isn't better than Fletcher at anything. Did SAF provide special tactics to make Fletcher good? Also McTom played under Jose one of the all time greats

Yeah that's a little crazy

100%

Fans are fecking clueless. They just think throw big names in and hope for the best.

ETH is building discipline and making people earn their slots with good performances. Nothing is more important than the team, and 4 wins in a row? damn right you guys have to be patient and wait your turn.

I have no doubts Casemiro is understanding and agreeing with this. He will get his chance, and he will have to make sure he grabs it, which is what we've all been asking for.

If you told me Mctominay was playing so well he's keep Casemiro out of the team 6 months ago i'd have called an insane asylum for your ass that second.

Yep, its one thing everyone criticised Ole for, playing the same team regardless of who plays well, yet now fans want names over players that they dont like.

I understand the McTominay issue, he has been poor over the last season but in the last 4 games he has been brilliant, putting out fires.

We are playing 1 DM and 2 8's, without McTominay as the sole DM, yet people say "he did his job" because they dont want to credit a player they dont like for having good games.

It's a new season, a clean slate, but for some they just can't forget their previous 'hatred' over some players.

I didn't want Mctominay in the side as he wasn't performing, but now he is - perfect. He deserves to stay until his form drops, then remove him and give somebody else a chance to step up. Thats how any good squad should work.

I genuinely can't understand how people sit on social media and say ETH is 'disrepecting' Ronaldo by leaving him on the bench, when the fecker has been crying about leaving all summer :wenger:

Oh well, gladly our manager isn't the type to listen to noise.

I will be honest I don't rate McTominay. I have labeled him shite. But considering his defencies he has been fine. He needs to be put on the bench though and Casemiro brought in. Arsenal had alot of the ball and our forwards again weren't in the match alot. Not really sustainable going forward and can't see us dominating teams with McTominay playing. Absolutely fine as a squad option or coming on late.

Its Mark Goldbridge and his gang on this one, saying he needs to play etc.

I think Ten Hag is right, you chose to miss pre season, now do your 3/4 weeks of pre season before he considers starting him.

This is exactly the standards required at Manutd, it sends a message to every player, no matter your ego, name, its your work and dedication that matters.

Sounds about right, can't stand the bloke so I don't listen to anything that muppet has to say. Wouldn't be surprised if he's the reason Maguire looks a shell of the man he used to be too.

Yep and so far it's proving to work. Long man it continue.

There’s not many DM who could put the great Casemiro out in the bench. So, credit’s where credit is due I’d say.

He’s Mourinho’s biggest gift to us, Dalot is turning out alright as well.

I always liked McTominay even when everyone else thought he was shite, but he’s not better than Fletcher (yet).
I also think they’re very different players, Fletch was much more of a pass and move player ala Roy Keane, whilst McTominay is developing into more of a holding midfielder role.
Also Fletcher had his best matches for us in a 4-5-1, he often struggled in a two when he was alongside Carrick because there wasn’t enough creativity between them.
Whilst McTominay has struggled next to Fred for perhaps the same reasons and is thriving next to a “Scholes” in Eriksen.

Both are Scottish academy players with great engine and grit but are also different players.
Fletcher contributed his part to our success and now its McTominay’s time, that’s all that matters at the end of the day.

I'm not a huge fan of McTominay as a player and I'm sure you can find many threads where I have said he should be nowhere near the first team but credit where it's due he has been very good over the last few games.

I'm still a little worried about his consistency as we have seen him play a blinder before and then went back to mediocrity but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. If he can improve his consistency then he may become an important part of the first team.

Saying that I still feel long term we will eventually move to a midfield of Casemiro, Eriksen and Bruno

Been really really good. Even when Casemiro eventually replaces him, this version of McTominay’ll be a key part of the squad.

Honest quote.
I've never regarded him as sh**e, but to me he was limited, as is Fred.
He has had some really good games, but equally as many poor ones. I've never thought of him as a DM, or even a possible CB, where Scotland sometimes play him. I don't think he has a natural ability to see or sniff out danger, and can get caught just following the ball, but he can tackle, win a header and his passing, although eratic at times, can be effective.
I agree that he is most suited to a squad role, and if he can learn from players like Casemiro, Varane and Martinez, then he can and should improve.

His job has been defined or simplified to him, which is get in peoples face, hassle them win back possesion and lay it into the more talented players this suits him well, he continues in this form even the almight Casemiro might find it hard to start games anytime soon and I'm not kidding.

I also expect Casemiro to become a regular, and tbh it says alot about McTominay that he with his performances has managed to delay Casemiro’s introduction with his performances in a role made for Casemiro.

I think McTominay is going to be important to the squad as I believe there is no coincidence that in turn Mourinho, Solskjær, Rangnik and Ten Hag has turned to him despite having more technically gifted options to hand. He has a lot more of natural aggresson, fight, working harder in the face of adversity, than almost anyone in the squad, and we need this desperately.

The hype train is insane. Dude has been a below mediocre midfielder for us since his arrival and every season we lament not replacing. A "decent" start to the season and he is a gift? That said, you are probably correct! Jose's signings were largely bad so Mctom could actually be the one decent find for him

Seriously. It tooks us spending 60m for him to start playing like prime vieira

Now casemiro cant even get in the team. FML.

Fair play to him, he has improved a lot recently. He has been a lot more active, he did some terrific defensive work yesterday. I still think Casemiro should replace him in the starting lineup, but I do see the issue with replacing someone in good form atm.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but he does have an underrated ability is being quite press resistant and has good awareness when receiving the ball back to goal deep in our own half.

If he can harness that more, his ability to turn, take a few strides to open the pitch or pick a quick pass forward can become a very important bit of play/pattern. His size and agility is really good in 1-10 yard pockets of space.

Played third CB in last 10 minutes.

I found this interesting so I went back and took a look. Unfortunately, I couldn't see any examples of him being a third centre-back in the last 10 minutes. At one point I did think he was, but I was just getting him mixed up with Diogo Dalot. I think the back-4 was consistent throughout the game personally.

Mental, ain't it? I know people are excited but people need to take the blinkers off for 5 seconds and breathe.

He was really good. He now needs to develop proper consistency. If he can show these kind of performances throughout the season there's no reason he won't develop into a really good CM.

00:42 pushed someone as if trying to kill them and then put his hands up to complain "why did he fall like that? it's disgusting!"

He’s just prone to a bit of sloppiness on the ball every now and then, and some have a tendency to fixate on those mistakes and ignore the rest of his game. He could actually be a very good midfielder if he could iron those mistakes out.

As it stands, he’s more than good enough to warrant a place in the squad. Anyone claiming otherwise is a bit blinkered.

He actually has the potential to be the complete box-to-box package.

Better than fletcher indeed. Fletcher became one of the best centre mids in Europe. McTom has had a handful of good games in his career. He's not even fit to lace Fletchers boots right now.

He's obviously not better than Fletcher right now, but let's not forget Fletcher suffered a similar level of dismissal and abuse throughout most of his United career. It was only in later years he received the recognition he deserved.

Regardless that's nothing to do with the OP saying he's better than Fletcher. I will say that Fletcher never got abuse from fans in person, only online which he wouldn't have been privy too. He got the level of dismissal he deserved for the performances he put in, as he was truly poor when he played for his in his earlier days. He then got the level of acclaim his performances deserved once he became world class in his position through hard work. Which is how it should be, and it's the same for McT.

Fletcher proved his value to the team long before popular opinion finally caught up. He was written off for most of his career as a waste of space and Fergie's pet, much like McT is now by those insightful online fans. People make up their minds early and stick to it until the facts smack them in the face. Nobody is saying McT is a world beater right now, but it's a bit ridiculous to write him off given the parallels.

No i absolutely agree with you. I posted a while back saying he had all the tools to be a great box to box midfielder and I think his value lies further up the pitch. But then for whatever reason he started to hide in games, much like Cleverley did for us after his injury. With the right coaching i still maintain he can be a top midfielder.

May be I am wrong or may be it was just in adeed time, but I remember him dropping back in the box.

I think he'll be one of the main beneficiaries and success stories out of ETH's tenure. The conditions have been pretty terrible for him as they were for most of the team; CM pairings who just don't complement each other, shaky defences, and blunt one-dimensional forward lines. Having such a dysfunctional squad makes everyone look shite. He looks like he's had a new burst of confidence having had a bit more structure, although the same can be said for the rest of the team.
