Killed all our attacking flow with pointless and mostly backward passes. Definitely doesn’t fit in the team that tries to dominate possession.
Didnt so much wrong really, it was Pogba and Bruno giving the ball away every pass that set us back.
Worst performance I've seen him put in a United shirt.
He is so average, he can't pass , he gives possession away a lot, he likes running with the ball and never looks around to pass to anyone, he does not know what positions to take up in the game and he is supposed to protect the defence, and as a result Pogba has to play a lot deeper, he is just so average and offers nothing, I'm sure James Garner or Dylan Levitt can offer a lot more because at least they are comfortable with the ball and keep the game moving.
People keep saying he is young and will improve but he is 24 already so how much more can he learn, is he going to learn how to pass the ball, how to look up and find a team mate, what positions to take, better still what position he actually plays, If Ole does not want to use Garner or Levitt, then lets go try to get Declan Rice because he is just a superior footballer

Not sure why there is someone blame on him. He does his job to protect the back four, if anything Bruno & Pogba weren't sharp enough today and it's not because Scott.

I say this every time games like this happen but he’s a player for open games. He’s an intensity player, box to box battling with the opponent. If the opposition let him have the ball he’s pretty redundant.
Didn’t have any issue with him tonight. Did no more or less than I expected from him. On the whole, I’m not a fan of this double pivot though.
I actually thought his passing was neat. He started off a few attacks well, including the goal. However, if he wants to start in front of Matić he needs to impose himself more. I think he’s lacking confidence. Hopefully he’ll reset next season and come back better.
He's not the player to anchor a midfield. Couldn't move ball out of our third for long periods forcing everyone to come deep and play football in front of CP.
In fairness it's probably hard to play yourself into form when you're just getting cameos when the game's basically already over.
Nah, clearly af he can't play as a holding mate. He took too many touches, which slowed down our transition and allowed CP to got back in shape. He can't read the game. His positioning is horrible. Most of the time he chase the ball not anticipate it. And his passing is really meh. No coaching in the world could make him turned into Matic mate.
He's a b2b or maybe a good ball winning mid, but never a holding imo.

He gets dogs abuse of 50% of the match day thread. Seems like they always need one player to circle around and pick on. In all honesty he’s not been great since the restart but players are allowed to have dips in form. He’s a decent option to have as a squad player and Fred and him work well together. Let’s see how he does next season and I just hope he doesn’t get subjected to the levels of abuse Lingard got on social media off our so called fans.

As much as I like Fred, i dont see the need for both of them. They can both cover CDM but are better placed a bit further up the field with a freedom to be tenacious.

For once in my life I agreed with Hoddle's commentary when it came to McTominay: He does not fill the gaps. People think running around, chasing players is good defensive play. Its not if you are not playing compactly. If your players are spaced out it just leaves space for the opposition to exploit when you sacrifice your position. If McTominay is going to deputise for Matic he needs to learn to operate in a set up where our defence and midfield aren't tightly packed together, minimising space for our opponents.

Are you telling me you've never watched United play and thought McTominay was excellent? Yes, he's excelled when we've played counter attacking football, but it's far too early to decide he won't cut it in this style adopted 5 minutes ago.
Contrary to what people are saying on here and what we saw tonight, he has often played incisive passes forward, through the lines, keeping up tempo when we've been a bit flat overall. The midfield three in our first XI is clearly our best three. McTominay is a great squad player to have in my view, and it's not his fault that we have almost no depth in order to retain the same tactical approach from the bench. But he offers an option now and will add to his game I strongly assume, and James, Fred and Williams all offer an option too. What we need is added quality and variety in our squad. Everyone else, for me, should be shipped out.

Why fans like you mix abuse with criticsm and stating the obvious. Show me one post where he is abused. Show me where someone said any single bad word towards him.
He is bad on the ball. Is that true? He is not good in dmc. Is that true? He is not creative. Is that true? So where is the problem?
Great squad player, good for tough matches where he can be a box to box 8 that can pop up with a goal every now and then, but he simply doesn’t have the passing ability nor confidence to play that progressive passing DM that we need so badly. Which is okay, mind you, but it’s noticeable how little our forwards get the ball in good areas when he isn’t able to properly pass through the lines to them.
He’s a Darren Fletcher not a Michael Carrick.
Fred is getting shafted for his sake. He's a much better player than Mctominay and can actually play the position that everyone blindly ignores McTominay can't play.

We just need more from the likes of fred and mcsauce. We want him to do well but hes pretty average since lockdown. Dont know what he offers except simplistic sidewards passes. I guess hes an ideal squad player but I really worry about the strength in depth in our squad.
No problem with him getting minutes, but Fred is probably the better direct replacement for Matic. I expect Fred will start the game on Sunday though.
Fletcher was a brilliant player. Scott's got a while to go before being mentioned in the same vein.
I agree he’s not a natural at it currently, but some of his natural traits lend themselves well to that role. I think given time he could probably adapt. Matic is currently the second coming to half of the caf but 8 months ago he was washed up by common consensus. Form and confidence can make a large difference. There are many calling for McTominay to be shipped out.

And McTominay isn't? He's more sloppy than Fred with his passing. McTominay's pass completion is at 80.9% in the league. Fred's is at 87.5%.
The reality is that neither are good enough to displace Matic.

Looked rusty, just needs more minutes, he has been good this season especially just before the break. Was too safe today but most of the team wasn't great until the 2nd goal anyway

What I've been saying as well even during the green patch with Fred. He's very limited with his technical ability and therefore relies more on athleticism. That screams for a counter attacking style. Shouldn't be anything more than a backup going forward. I'd prefer a new CDM was bought and have Fred rotate for Bruno and Pogba
