Nothing!I don't know what is so special about him.

He’s better than Pogba to some in the 3 man midfield threadI don't know what is so special about him.
Isn't it? I see bang average midfielder. Last few games are perfect example what you get when you play with creative midfielders and what you get when you play with players who play "with their heart".Nothing!

I think we needed his physicality but Fred is a better Pogba replacement than him. And he's definitely not a Matic replacement
Glad someone else noticed this. He tends to position himself in places where he can't get out of.He needs to work on his positioning. He stands to close to matic at times. There was a point in the game when matic had the ball and mctominay tried to make himself available for the pass by drifting towards him???? He will learn with time better areas of the pitch to position himself in without congesting our midfield in possession.
we have lots of easy games coming up we’re he could improve.
Gary Neville reckons he could be a center back for us. Would save us a few bob on a center back........
Gary Neville believes Scott McTominay has the ‘aggression’, ‘speed’ and ‘understanding’ to play in central defence and urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to experiment with him at the back during Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Brighton.

So does Cascarino

Here is the thing. And it goes for James, McT, Lingard and before them with Cleverley, Welbeck etc...;Grossly underated on here imo. Love the way he puts himself about. He's in the category of midfielders with big frames who are difficult to play against. He can put his stamp on a game. There's certainly goals in him. He's hard as nails yet not over the top. Invaluable player for us!
I know he hit that pass yesterday but Matic isnt very creative?Here is the thing. And it goes for James, McT, Lingard and before them with Cleverley, Welbeck etc...;
Man Utd fans want attacking football. Creative, dominant, skilful and fun to watch. While at the same time most of those fans defend players like McT with phrases like hard working, big heart or great character.
Here is the news for you all; attacking and creative football when you are over the moon how your team looks great ( Su and Brighton games) does not go with technically average players.
Even dmc position today needs a player who knows with the ball (Matic).
In short; he must upgrade his technique and learn from Matic. He could be very useful on dmc.
Far better with far more potential than the players you’ve mentioned.Cleverley got constantly shit on for putting in similar performances but this guy gets praised to no end.
He is distinctly average like Lingard, Pereira and James.
It was no surprise that midfield lost control once he and Pereira come on.
Fred is a much better player than him and it's deluded to think otherwise.

I think there is something in this. I wouldn't mind see him played there . He has all the skillset for becoming a rock solid Centre backGary Neville reckons he could be a center back for us. Would save us a few bob on a center back........

Depends on what you mean by creative. Creativity (at least for me) is not just to make killer through ball.I know he hit that pass yesterday but Matic isnt very creative?
It’s hard to judge because young Fletcher was playing with ballers like Rooney, Ronaldo, Ruud, Scholes, Keane, Rio, Giggs etc. So he really stuck out like a sore thumb with his inferior quality. The only players we have close to that level now is Pogba & Bruno, and when McT replaced them against Norwich & Brighton the difference in quality stood out like a sore thumb. His lack of quality hasn’t been as noticeable because he’s spent a lot of time alongside Fred, Pereira, Lingard, James etc. Put him in Fletchers position in that mid 2000s team & I think he looks just as bad if not worse. He’s decent, and seems to have his head in the right place for this club. For me, he’s better than Darren Fletcher was at the same age. For the role he plays, the more experience he has, the better he’ll be.
He is average. McTominay fits into a Manchester United team that is utter crap like we were in the first half of the season, but he sticks out like a sore thumb when putting him amongst real Manchester United quality players.
I have been saying this for a while, but you cannot have a player in the team who cannot pass. Matic showed exactly why you need players who can pass properly in every midfield position; it is unacceptable that Manchester United have a midfielder who only has 79.8% chance, in the Premier League, of passing to their teammate. He is not Manchester United quality.
In a thread about Rice, people were saying he was not good enough. I agree, but he is no worse than McTominay. At least Rice can pass the ball (pass accuracy 86% - equal key passes at a lesser club, more assists, and more long balls). If Rice isn't good enough, McTominay isn't good enough.
I swear he gets better ratings just because he is McTominay; he did absolutely nothing when he came on against Brighton. Pereira got a rating of 5.4, while McTominay got 6.1. Why? I am not saying that Pereira was anything short of bad, but McTominay was no better than him. That is a sign of bias rating.
There is a post above that pundits etc. think he could be a centre back option, and that is a telling sign; they don't think he is good enough for the midfield, otherwise, why would they be saying it?
McTominay has a lower pass % because he actually tries to pass forward with pace and impetus rather than sideways. Stop using pass % as a metric to compare midfielders, its dumb. Also he's very young and this is arguably his first season as a full on first team player. Add to that the defensive midfielders are generally late bloomers (Matic himself is a perfect example of this) and I have high hopes for him. Is he good enough yet for a title winning team? Probably not, but he comes across as very driven and committed so I wouldn't bet against him becoming a top player by the time he's 25-26.
As an aside, this constant habit of putting down our players, especially the young ones and limiting their potential in our own heads is tiring.

Bias?
That's odd, is McT one of the popular favourites of the caf? doubt it. His rating is slightly better than Rashford who is a caf favourite no? and by your theory should have higher ratings?
Has favouritism ever affected the caf ratings so much? It's on average and generally the ratings of players are spot on.
So could it be just maybe.. jusst maybe.. because McT actually tried to do things and performed more than the lower ratings players eg. Pereira.
Absolutely nothing?
That actually supports the point that McTominay gets bonus points for being McTominay; he gets a higher rating far easier than other players. In a lot of games, he does very little yet still ends up with absurdly high ratings in comparison to his teammates. E.g. Against Everton, he was completely invisible (absolutely awful performance), yet still he got the same rating as Fred, who created chances and won the ball back more. Fred was better both defensively and attacking that game and still, McTominay got the same rating.
McTominay's ratings are inflated because he is 'young' and came from the 'youth system'.
Just read the comments on here; there seems to be a blind spot for him with a lot of commenters.
There is no way he has been better than Rashford this season.
Rashford, Pogba, and Martial have worse average ratings than McTominay. Are we seriously saying he has been better than them?
From all the average ratings I have looked at, it seems only Fernandes has been better than McTominay. That shows bias for me. There is no way he has been our second-best player this season.
What did he try to do against Brighton? He had one shot, which was deflected. That was it. As soon as he came one, we played far worse; he gave away the ball and kept on getting in the way most of the time. Does that earn him a 6.1 rating instead of the 5.3 rating of Pereira? (These were the ratings last time I checked.)
