Agree. He does ok considering he’s rubbish alongside him. Very over hyped on here.

Does ok? He’d get into most teams in the league in his current form. If your looking for a cross between Pirlo, Keane and Scholes you’re not going to find one.

Pogba would be destroyed in here if he gave an identical performance tbh.
Pogba has never given us a performance like that and I doubt he ever will so don't lose any more sleep or waste any more time slagging other players in your eternal defense of Pogba.

Pogba very rarely ever shows the commitment thay mctominay showed today.

What does that even mean? He shows far better footballing ability. Including this ‘driving forward with the ball’ thing everyone is excited about now. He’s not a defensive midfielder, and his job isn’t the same.

Even if by commitment (I assume you mean running around), McTominay does more, why has it been decided that this is more important than passing well and creating chances in football now? Both are important in football, but why is one player not held accountable for his inability to do one, in the same way the other is held accountable for his apparent inability to do one? Being good on the ball is very important for a top midfielder too.

I suggest you watch the game again, and look at every time Scott gets the ball. In fact, if anyone has one of those ‘all touches’ videos would be useful. McTominay has now become better than Paul fecking Pogba on here now. I’m out of this thread, I’ve said my piece. Wish them both the best. Hopefully Scott doesn’t start flirting with Real and Juve soon.

He never has made a performance even close to this.
Um, what?!

That'd be far our best performer for about 18 months after he arrived?
The hate in here of our own player is absolutely ridiculous. I'd suggest idiots stop reading the Sun and just watch the football being played.

Pogba has made mistakes but has put in more top level performances than McTominay has played for us. Anyone saying otherwise must have started watching us in September.

It says a lot about his progression that him getting injured now feels like a serious problem.

I do not read any newspaper for football, or magazine.

Pogba wasn't our best performer, hes been the most up and down player. With good highs but really bad lows.

My point was Pogba has never put in this type of effort and battled in a match anything like this before. Watching liverpool smash City with their harder working midfield really shows why Pogba is a problem. I want that hard working battling midfield.

I’m betting he’ll be fit to face Sheff Utd. Seems like the sort of lad that doesn’t dwell on an injury unless it’s something bad.

He could miss the next two games and get 3 weeks off to recover/rest. Time to dust off Matic

@Rozay They made their minds up on Pogba a long time ago and nothing will change it. I applaud your effort but it's a lost cause.

Are people genuinely in this thread slating Pogba to build up McTom?

Football is subjective so I could care less who rates McTom over Pogba; I think you’re wrong but I disagree with loads on this forum but honestly what kind of toxic fanbase are we when we can’t build up one academy graduation without berating another.

And yet ten times the player you're trying to praise at his expense.
.

if you go back through this thread I have not ‘praised’ anybody at his expense. I merely commented he had added done consistency to his game which is something Pogba is not good with.

Paul has already suggested he wants to move on in the summer. Maybe we would do better focusing on players who actually want to be at the club?

There's no point anymore, mate.

I think United's fanbase is the only one in the world to prefer McTominay to Pogba.

Except that isn't true.

Off the top of my head there's the Newcastle game where - alongside Martial - they singlehandedly save José's job, which was true irony as they were the two players who were not only labelled as viruses by José, but they were the two the fanbase had down as downing tools in order to get José sacked.

Then there's the 3-2 City game.

Bit more to commitment than running ( or jogging) around for sure.
With Pogba I often get the impression that he believes he is too good for this team and his effort levels reflect that.
He may well be a top midfielder, we have only seen occasional demonstrations of it and the impression remains that he hasn't the commitment to work hard enough to show it.

I thought he was brilliant again to be honest. Wins the ball back time and time again, uses it well, is a goal threat and makes great driving runs. What else do people want?

Very worried about his injury. Hope he is just out until after the break. We need him badly.

Fast becoming my favorite player. I believe he will be a mainstay in the midfield for 10 years.

No updates on his injury? I've gone over on my ankle like that more times than I care to remember... 9 times out of 10 its swells up a little but within a week or two and with some strapping you can get back to playing.

It was an average performance and not praiseworthy in my opinion. But whatever, each to their own. To me, he put himself about well, and showed his lack of quality on the ball over and over again. Everyone’s drinking Scott juice at the moment though so whatever, I’ll leave them to enjoy it.

Fully agreed. Very been average in the last couple of games, he was shocking on the ball when we're trying to attack but apart from it, he carried the ball so well, we need more than just ball-carrier.

Solskjaer said they were doing scans today so we might get something in the press later, he's usually very tight-lipped about injuries though.

Most overrated player I have seen at United in some time. People giving a midfielder who can't even pass the ball MOTM

FFS Cassidy. The guy can pass. He has been outstanding for us.

He is bang average in his use of the ball and was no where near MOTM yesterday. The midfielder next to him was a lot better.
He has been good this season, but he is massively overrated, and one of the reasons we don't create enough chances is because his passing is bang average.

If we want to get back to being a top side, he is going to have to become a squad option or seriously improve his passing to a level which looks beyond him.

@Rozay

McTominay is playing very well and one of the first names on the team sheet.

Why have you got to bring Pogba in to it? 2 completely different players with different styles.

Nobody has said Scott is better than Pogba why not just enjoy our players rather than whinge unnecessarily.

Youre expecting our DM to create chances?
I cant think of a DM that does that. He wins the ball back and gets it forward quickly, theres not much more to ask of him.
His ability to carry the ball forward is on show simply because he plays so deep.
Youre asking too much of him simply because (it appears) you dont seem to like him

He's very good. Really hope his injury is not serious.

And for people who are calling him over-hyped and overrated, what exactly are you expecting from a young player in his first full, proper season? To be playing like a prime Roy Keane? For ffs, let the kid develop and learn through the season, he has been very dependable for us in a turbulent season so far and he's one of the few bright sparks. Comments like calling him overrated are very harsh in my opinion. I remember Fletcher got the same treatment when he broke through too.

Where have I said he should create chances, I said the team doesn't because his passing is bang average, meaning he doesn't get the ball to the danger players enough.

The difference yesterday was Fred who was far better in both defensive actions and ability on the ball. I don't even like Fred but even I can acknowledge he was much better

Also McTominay is not a DM

Also I actually do like him, I'm just pointing out the obvious which is as good as he has been, the praise needs tempering for 2 reasons.

1. He was no where near MOTM yesterday
2. He needs to seriously improve on the ball if we want to be a good side or he needs benching in future

Of course hes a DM. Hes routinely between Maguire and Lindelof and hes the one to carry the ball foreard from the CBs.
In what way does his passing let us down? The forwards get plenty of the ball, i honestly dont know what you mean.
Weve had Pogba play deep and be blunt in attack, it doesnt make any sense.

Watch the Bournemouth game for an example, the difference yesterday was that Freds passing and finding the runs of Marital especially
I also said ONE of the reasons, not the only reason by the way

What do you describe bang on average?

Not as if he was 100% fit yesterday either.

If you don't recognise that currently he is our best player in that midfield, his passing might not be Pogba esque but he tracks back uses his physicality too.

He needs improving on the ball? In what way? short passing? long passing?

Also he is not a DM yet has the following stats:

McTominay has won more duels (78) than any other Manchester United player this season.

most recoveries (76) among United’s squad.

McTominay has also won the most fouls (26) of any United player.

Only Aaron Wan-Bissaka has won more tackles than McTominay (18) for the Red Devils this term (Wan-Bissaka has won 43, which is absolutely insane).

Wan Bissaka is also the only player to make more interceptions than McTominay (15 vs 14).

– On the other side of the ball, only Marcus Rashford (16) has completed more dribbles than McTominay’s 15 this term.

– Only Harry Maguire (39) and Victor Lindelof (24) have won more aeriel duels than McTominay (20).

– McTominay is one of only six United players to register an assist in the Premier League to date.

I really fail to see how his passing is letting us down in the way you are describing here. Sure, he’s not Carrick-level yet with his passing, but he’s not exactly dragging down the team.

What the Bournemouth game and then Brighton game, one of the differences was the midfields ability to get the ball to the forwards in dangerous situations
