People need to consider he has never really had a proper run of games. I thought he waa good today, not perfect but very composed and solid. If he plays the next 10 games in a row, i would review him then. I think he is the kind of player if you give a chance to, will shine with confidence. I am very happy he started ahead of Matic. I would like to see Fred in midfield instead of Andreas.

We know he can tackle and hustle but looks like his passing is really coming out now too. This guy is going to be a complete all rounder soon, gonna be a top top player

Fletcher 2.0? Has a tendency to fade away at times, but his heart and determination means he's capable of making a difference at any time.

He's a fighter and developing into a very very good CM. I hope he continues to improve and keep it simple and we have another gem.

He should be a starter when fit. Far better than Matic, and arguably our only decent option for the defensive midfielder (though I think that he is better as b2b). Not spectacular today, but did his job really well.

I agree. I think the criticisms are out of context. The setup with the other players isn't functioning and there were a lot of nerves today. This lad isn't the problem.

With Bruno in place of Lingard it could have been better
Agreed. Lingard and Pereira were among the bottom three in number of passes. Which just mean both who supposedly helping our midfield, didn’t really help us controlling the game.

We definitely need someone better than him, but he's definitely better than Matic.

I thought he was a bit too casual at times with the ball today(and he usually never is).

I think he'll develop into a really great player for us but i don't see him as a DM, think he's got too much ability to not be used further forward

I'm not a Lingard fan but he was good today, carried the ball well, held it up, pressed well. I don't think number of passes tell the story of his game at all. Pereira too I don't rate but it was a terrific cross for the 2nd goal.

For all the criticism of Matic, I wish Scott was as good on the ball as him. If we could merge them we’d have a hell of a player. Matic has no fecking legs sadly, and Scott has that in abundance.

Overall the midfield trio wasn’t nearly good enough today for me. Pereira doesn’t do enough.

Was not really a fan but today I am starting to see a player in him. Think he is becoming the player we need in midfield. Will make mistakes but that is to be expected

Impressive. This lad is 22 years old let’s not forget and it’s a very disciplined role. More I watch him the more I’m convinced.

He shows qualities that make him a potential world class midfielder. The only thing is he seems to shrink in confidence next to Pogba. He's less risky in attack and overly cautious in defence next to him in a midfield 2.

The great thing is for all his troubles we get to experience a Pogba

Love his attitude, can see the passion oozing out of him.

I like him a lot.

He’s effectively becoming what I was hoping Schweinsteiger would be for us, but much younger and home grown

Occasional good play shouldn't hide the fact that those two, as supposedly helping the midfield, were missing for large chunk of the game. For instance, Lingard only had 26 passes during 85 min. on the field, with Pereira was even worse (15 passes in 73 min.). That is unacceptable number for midfielders. Their numbers are comparable to Rashford and Martial, both forwards, combined (21+28 passes).

In contrast, Scott had 46 passes, with Pogba 62. Both were also did the pressing, and in Pogba case, the creative force and bringing the ball forward also.

Mixed bag for me today. He seemed to be reacting a lot in the first half getting dragged all over the shop and just not as assured as he has been in pre-season but then he gets vital tackles and blocks in and is alright at passing.
He’s been really good in pre season and I was impressed but then see performances like today and the doubts start to creep in again.

Can’t fault him. Not a world beater but he grafts. Nice to see and he’ll be valuable over the season.

He can do well in the role Herrera played last season but he's not a defensive midfielder. I hope ole fixes that so pogba can play further forward with more freedom.

There's always one.

Two.

But I think he can be a good squad player. He has everything but top class ability on the football. This isn’t a criticism in my opinion, to be a squad player here, for him, is an achievement, and will mean he’s squeezed everything out of the ability he has. But he’s not good enough on the ball. When the pitch becomes smaller and tighter, he struggles. In the centre of the park, it will often be tight.

Off the ball, he’s very good. To be the ‘first name on the teamsheet’ at Manchester United, as I’ve seen written of him, he needs to look after the ball far better than he does. Ultimately, I think he’s fortunate he was born a few years before James Garner.

I still not convinced he has quite enough ability, but he ran more and worked harder in one game than Matic has in his entire career. A real breath of fresh air

Pretty much this.

We don't need two Pogbas in midfield and we can't expect prime-Matic from him.

He's not just doing a 'job', he's actually impacting play and influencing it in his own way even if it is inconsistent at the moment; he's had less than 50 appearances for us! His mental strength and drive is fecking fantastic and long it may continue. You need these kinds of character in the squad.

Maybe once if he gets enough games, he will be the one who will be screaming at his team mates and raise their level.

A proper United player.

Bit of a slow start but grew into the game and by the end was starting to control play and drive the team forwards.

Not perfect by any means but a good beginning to what I predict will be a fantastic season for him.

Not good enough and never will be.
I just came into this thread after seeing he only got rated 6.6 for this game. Thought I missed something. Giving the whole team a pass for a somewhat shaky, nervous first half, he was solid.

I usually try not to make assumptions, but your rating of him makes me question how much understanding you have of the game in general. It‘s not all about flashy and shiny. This guy is going to make a difference when we‘re not cruising, when we need to roll our sleeves up, when a no-look flick is not going to cut it.

Reads the game very well. I can see him mature and improve enormously this season. Look forward to his progression.

I really dont understand where these opinions come from... not a world beater? He is 22 and developing into a fantastic young player. He can break up play and is starting to show he can control it too. If he keeps developing at the same pace we have another Carrick on our hands (though with more tenacity). So the whole "not a world beater but grafts" thing is just fecking bizaare.

thought he was very good today but overall our midfield balance wasn't working in the first half

not sure about McT and Pogba as the deepest two in midfield, I'd rather start someone else with McT and push Pogba forward. If Pogba is going to start deeper he needs a specialist defensive mid next to him, which McT is not (yet at least)

This Ain’t no Sunshine singer is a proper player for us now. Like his enthusiasm and covers every inch of the field well.

In an ideal world yes. I think it allows us to control play better. However when we play on the counter those passes from deep from Pogba are unbelievable. So both can work at different times but would be great to have an Option A and B.

If Fred can adopt the league and Ole's tactics this year, We can have a good midfield trio of SMT--FRED with Pogba in 10 role.
We still need to fix our front 6 by finding decent replacements for Mata/Lingard/Matic/Alexis/Lukaku.

Scott is a fecking proper United fan.

Just look at his celebrations. Jose didn't do a lot of things right in United way. But, I am grateful that he brought him up to the first team.
