Let's hope fans will be a little more patient with the next academy graduate who shows up without a foreign sounding name and flashy moves but I wouldn't count on it.

My biggest frustration towards end of last season was Scott and Fred somehow overlooked by Ole. He brought them in for the city game then shunted them..our team would never have collapsed the way it did if those two had gotten more game time. They're still our best 2 midfielders in big games.

We did better in the second game against PSG because we had Fred and Scott in midfield. They're more mobile when we need to dig in and defend.

He is becoming a passing master

Improves day by day, incredible

My fav player in this moment

He's definitely got more about him than I originally thought but let's not got ahead of ourselves. A lot of people were saying Andreas was set for a big season last year after his pre-season performances.. Let's hope they both can step up this year and he lives up to the McSauce moniker

Unlike Pereira though, he's impressed in the first team in competitive matches...I'm sold on him now.

I think people have McTominay wrong. I don't think he's a pure 8. I see him like a classic box to box ball winner. He will not sit, but will be defensive, like Kante was at leicester. So he can play with Pogba.

Not seeing the Fletcher comparison

Fletcher was stuck out on the wing in his early seasons and struggled to make any impact

McT has been effective almost from the very beginning of his first team career

The fact that people didn't rate McT in his early appearances is why they're comparing him to Fletcher I think, but he's been playing well the whole time IMO

I'd love to know how much his change in style was down to Mourinho handcuffing him to a particular role. It might just be timing or coincidence, but he looks twice the player since he went.

I think well is a stretch. He was rarely terrible but also rarely offered anything useful. Now that he's got used to it all and grown in skill and confidence, he's actually making things happen as well as just putting himself about, which is great to see. And he's well ard which I like.

So Jose was right? haha

I went to to see West Ham Vs Utd. I saw us get stuffed 3-1. I was uncomfortable with the way Mourinho uses him as a pawn to make a point. McTominay deserved better than that. He kept throwing McTominay in at CB/RB. Hanging him out to dry just because he didn't get a CB. Fine you didn't get the CB you wanted but don't take it out on McTominay. Play him in his position.

So no I don't think Jose was right.

Too early to give him armband?

Probably, although only because it seems weird making a player as young as him captain. It seems a little less weird when you actually look at the likely average age of the team next year and also who the other more senior options are

De Gea - too quiet and I don’t like GK’s as captains
Lindelöf - maybe but not been a 1st team regular long enough
Smalling - nope
Pogba - headless chicken at times and also a no for wanting to leave earlier in the summer
Lingard - hell no

In short, I think it’s too soon this year, but I wouldn’t mind it if he got the band a few times this season, see how it goes and next season why not. Lindelöf for this season for me as captain though.

Yeah, people saying he should replace Matic are wide of the mark. I'm sure he could sit but he'd be best suited taking Herrera's spot and having licence to play box to box.

No, Withnail and I actually! If you're after a quote, it's a godsend.

Although 'cool your boots' was another line, so Ride must be fans.
Give it a listen, great song

While he could do that, pogba is better at it. Let Scott be defensive for now.

We can afford for him to get forward at times. It would make us less one dimensional and would actually play to Mctominay's strengths anyway. He's a good all-round footballer.

Obviously it would work better if we upgraded Matic and had a genuinely dynamic DM behind them and not a deadweight.

Don’t get me wrong he won’t not push forward just like scholes/Keane did, but one of them has to be more cautious on counters etc. I think Scott is better than Paul at that, I’m sure he’d be happy to take that role.

The most natural heir to Roy in the current squad. If he is even 2/3 as good we have a terrific player in our squad. Cost nothing as well.

So true. I was lucky enough to get tickets to the homegame against liverpool in march. Outside the stadium rumours spread Matic is injured... i overheard at least half a dozen people saying "feck we gonna lose McTom is shit!" and half a year later we are here.....just shows you how quickly things can change especially with very young and "very old" (feck me Matic is 5 years younger than me :D) players. For most people they like the extreme they either overhype or say player x is shit... nothing in between.

Not sure why comparison has to be based on how their career begin & go instead of looking the potential impact the players are going to make or the way how the players play.

Wouldn't trade him for Messi. OMG , what a shot he has. My favorite player currently.

he's pretty much nailed to start the season in the first eleven isn't he?

What a player he's developing into. I have no idea how he developed his passing so well - seems to find the right pass so often, especially under pressure. Takes initiative and charges with the ball as well.

He is playing with so much confidence, it's great to see. He is making so many runs into the box, passing is good and defensively he was always good.

McKeane :D

If the decision is based on quality, effort and attitude he's up there with the first name on the sheet.
