SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

As a sufferer of asthma, I've always been told by my doctor to stay away from ibuprofen as it makes breathing difficulties worse.

@RedTiger if any of this makes you convinced to really try and quit - or even just to start cutting down how much you smoke, feel free to PM me anytime if you wanna talk about any angle on it whatsoever mate.

I work for the health service, part of the logistics division and this situation is going to lead me to say something I never expected to pass my lips. Thank Feck for Brexit. We have been stockpiling supplies in preparation for the economic fall out of Brexit, a headache, but without that we would be proper fecked in short order.

Strange world these days.

By again I'm not talking about an exterior source, symptoms can stop and come back.

Yep, that is true. I think everyone who is infected should probably continue self-quarantine (and be careful) for another week or so after testing negative to the infection.

At the very least, staying at home prevents community spread.

Speaking for myself, I live alone and have no family still alive. I'm relatively young and fit, but if something were to go wrong, I'd basically be fecked.

I don't know how you can mitigate shitty circumstances, other than on a case by case basis.
Ah shit, hope you stay safe.

Cheers. One of my brothers is disabled and my mum is his only carer for 90% of the time. Luckily she is only in her late 40's(Thats Irish catholics for you)but if she ended up being sick, it wouldn't be great at all.

Oh and buy a poker set if you don't have one because it'll be a good way of using time up.
Got the board game Secret Hitler for christmas, so if things do south then I'll being spending most of my time accusing people of been Nazi's. Which is at least something a bit different.

Is there any scientific evidence to support what I've been hearing about anti-inflammatories having an adverse effect on treatment? My Dad has some symptoms and is self isolating and I've told him to hold off the ibuprofen and stick to paracetamol for the time being.

There is no scientific evidence to support that yet, at the moment just a working hypothesis. And they mention ibuprofen specifically and not all NSAIDs in general.

You can read about it here:

Don't think this is official advice, but they were interviewing a doctor on Sky News a couple of days ago and the only medication they mentioned was paracetamol. No NSAIDs were spoken about either to take or not.

So Trump has admitted to taking the test, despite his physician saying yesterday that he doesn't need to be put in isolation or have the test at all because he said it was low risk. At this point, it's a good chance that he has it, right? With the people he's met.

Either that or a belter of a dose of the flu. It will be interesting to see if any of the 3 of us get a dose of covid-19 now.
Something very similar happened to me from the end of February, and has only gotten better for the past few days. Everyone in my house had it too (I was the last to get it). For the record, I hardly ever get cold/flu, and I even (lowkey) bragged about it in here last year:
...I've become immune to common cold I believe. I don't even know how that's possible since there are so many different versions of it, but I was child when I last had it.

I'm still amazed how something that probably started out in a Chinese food market has expanded to such an international scale. I struggle to comprehend that.
in the spirit of whats going on ive been watching films like 28 days later, and last night Contagion, which is about 10 years old. They made a film 10 years ago about what is happening now and how it spread

You got it RA , theoretically she shouldn`t have had a belting dose of the flu after having a flu jab.

True. It can happen sometimes, though. Does she usually get the flu jab? I found the first time I got it I did come down with heavy case of flu a few weeks later but since then it's worked flawlessly.

I thought the flu jab only worked for a few strains which they believed would be the most problematic for that season, so it was still possible to catch a flu from other strains?

Yeah there's that, too. It's probably what happened to me. Though it seems a bit odd that it only happened once in 15 years.

He‘s a known germaphobe so I’d guess he hand washes and uses gels a lot so there’s a good chance he’s OK too.

Yesterday I watched Contagion as well. Good flick, but felt a bit docu-techno-thriller-ish. Real as feck though.

Is there no update on new cases today then? Or have I missed it? Can only see they've announced more deaths.

Interesting to see apple on lockdown. Interesting to see if some other retailers take the same route.

Italy 21K infected (+3000 new) and 1440 deaths (+175) still a week away to see the lockdown effects. Maybe started to late...

A trip to the local Tesco this morning for some bits and bobs and it was utter chaos. What the heck has happened to us? Empty shelves, peoples trolleys brimming over with stuff with no concern for anyone else.

I always think I’m a pretty reasonable person but I found myself hating people I don’t even know.

It’s an alarming realisation that our society can break down within days.
Is it just uk and USA doing this hoarding?

Peruvians were stocking up on toilet rolls etc but it was only like a pack each even though there's no limit.

Maybe Peruvians aren't selfish. Simple.

Stay in your room. Don't sit next to your family/flatmates on the sofa.
What else? Don't go to the toilet or eat either? People can do what they can but you if you have a family then you will still be isolating with them around.

I don't know how long our schools are being closed, I don't even know if what our goverment thing was the right thing to do. But if they were going to do this then it was better to do it sooner than later is my point. Even this was too late, but still earlier than in UK for example.

UK allowed Liverpool game to go on while the virus was already in the UK, on day later they say they won't close anything only to suspend the PL just few hours later. That doesn't sound like any plan at all, it just sounds they didn't expect it to happen and they would continue with doing nothing but it eventually happened so they had nothing to do except stop all public events. Pretty inconsistent decisions, I don't see how some of you can't see this.
Other euro games were behind closed doors, same evening as the Anfield game City - Arsenal was cancelled for precautionary measures. They completley let it slip through the net

It's a bit hit and miss. Not everyone in the 20 person Brazilian delegation that travelled to the US tested positive. Even if you assume they lied about the Brazilian president's test being negative, the rest of the people have been a mix of positive and negative tests. So you can't count on it 100%.

Can someone help me, did I just read that there is 1500 new cases in Spain?

In the North Sinn Fein and the SDLP have called for school closures, as has the Catholic primate Archbishop Eamon Martin, while the DUP and the Ulster Unionist Party argue it is not yet the time for such action.

Classic Northern Ireland.
