I don't think many Arsenal fans could genuinely claim that last summer wasn't one of the most poorly organised in the history of the club. It was a complete shambles. This summer, however, we've made some inroads to try and win some supporters back.

You've obviously yet to hear Trionz talking absolute nonsense about that particular transfer window.

Well some people continue to argue it was all part of the plan, but I don't see it myself. And judging from the reaction of the crowd last year in late-August time, nor did anyone else.

Hold on, weren't you arguing that last summer was all part of Arsenal's cunning negotiation tactics? That leaving everything to the last minute was some grand tactical plan?

You're making this up as you go along, aren't you?

Still stand by it.
Arsenal & Wenger are not someone who would panick.

The argument started with 8-2 drubbing forcing Wenger to buy them players.
And i argued that we don't panick in that way.

There is always a plan laid as to who will we go for and who shall be his backup plan, if first choice doesn't come off.

The delay probably began with Cesc transfer stalled by Barca's pursuit of that Chilean player transfer whose name i forgot. One who transferred for 35m.

We tried Mata and Cazorla was his backup. Neither happen.

One can say though if not for Wilshere's injury, Arteta wouldn't have been bought, so that's one kind of panicking.

This time round, things have been more certain and less dependent on external factors.

Very good signing, though he doesn't really address the most pressing weaknesses in their squad. Wenger seems to be changing his approach, though, which is interesting.

I think it does address our most pressing weakness, actually.

We went from having a real overload of diminutive attacking midfielders to having none at all. Nasri went, Fabregas(whilst not quite fitting that mould) went, Rosicky's always injured, etc.

Last year we relied on RVP coming deep a lot, or the two wide men to really get to the touchline to score goals. There was little creativity in the hole behind the main striker. Cazorla is that. Now, it's not a new left back that I'd adore, but it's one of the two biggest issues.

Actually when i look at our youth, there is no one ready for the positions he bought; so he doesn't really have a choice.

You seem to miss the gist of my argument.
It was clearly suggesting against the notion that United did us a favour by beating us 8-2.
Not stating that it was exactly the summer, we aimed for.

And what did he win last year nimrod?

Kagawa was nominated for the ballon d'or. I guess Santi Cazorla's nomination was lost in the mail

Because winning is everything when it comes to knowing talented players is it? Like I said, anyone who watches Spanish football would know how good Cazorla is. Kagawa really wasn't very well known on these boards until we were linked with him, only those who watched German football would've known how good he is.

Its completely different because Kagawa has done more in his career despite being younger and comes to this country having helped his team to the double

People knew about Cazorla but few were calling him a world beater. Kagawa is different.

Oh bollocks, who was calling Kagawa a world beater? I bet most of the people on here hadn't watched an ounce of German football before we were linked with him. I don't know why you keep bringing trophies into it, the likes of Sanchez, Silva and Aguero hadn't won a thing before their transfers but everyone knew how good they were, didn't they?

I'm not sure what the relevance of Kagawa is to this thread unless it's to provoke a 'our big signing is better than yours.....nen ner nenener'

As for Kagawa, I heard a foreign journalist about a month ago on Talk Sport saying what a talented player he is and frankly, he must be good to join Utd.....that's obvious.

I haven't seen much of Cazorla but he comes highly recommended also. From the little I've seen of him he reminds me a little of a left footed Xavi, obviously not as good but not far off either. A typical Wenger purchase, excellent technically and very pacy.

As to which of the two will prove the better star, time will tell. I think they will both shine and the Premiership will be better for that.

Cazorla will be very good for Arsenal. I'd say Wenger has used the money he got for Fabregas and Nasri reasonably well - £12m on Chamberlain, £10m on Arteta, £6m on Mertesacker, £15m on Cazorla, £10m on Podolski and £13m on Giroud.

You're having a laugh...This wasn't some grand design or master plan, good fortune smiled on your club who were only recently at the precipice of sporting disaster with yet another world class player looking for the exit...I mean, it's still unclear what RVP will do...Even the fee was a stroke of luck, it's hard to comprehend really but the Qataris really made a mess of Malaga

Arsenal's problems remain...Their model isn't built for sustained success with world class talent simply because their wage structure can't bankroll it...and waiting for a fire sale at a mismanaged club to pick through the remaining rubble for talent can't really be described as a plan

One, your club has known for years now that the player wanted to return so you can't contend that they were prepared for a transfer that was 2 or 3 years in the making yet simultaneously hampered by the transfer as well due to the pursuit of Alexis Sanchez...Two, €29 million

Very good signing and am pleased to see we tied this deal up. Up until recently I think this guy would of been out of our price reach but Malaga's financial situation has created an opening for us. From what I've heard and youtube clicks (which now makes me an expert on him ;)) he looks very creative and nimble player and we really did mess the creativity of Fabregas at times last season so he should hopefully help fill that gap. In the middle of the park we were lacking ideas at times and from the looks of things he has a handy long distance shot and free kick on him as well.

With either foot, not both feet!

Would of trully got a bargain if he could take free kicks with both of his feet at the same time ;)

Yes, a negotiated fee is a stroke of luck.

 That sounds exactly like a Plan.

:wenger:Whatever.

He's a good player and will add a lot to that midfield along with Arteta - I expect them to get into sync pretty quickly...Santi is going to be a very fouled player...I was already looking forward to Giroud but he will be even better with Cazorla picking him out left & right

It remains to be seen but from an Arsenal point of view hopefully we're seeing a shift away from this policy which was necessary for the Ashburton Grove project.

The stadium wasn't really the problem, the long term loan deals on those are really very manageable. What really bit hard was the Highbury redevelopment and housing scheme which were the high cost short term loans we struggled with when the economic downturn hit.

They've now been repaid in full and with the last sale worth 25m and the 2 main sponsorship deals up for renewal in about 18 months hopefully there should be more cash than there has been for the last 4-5 seasons.

In saying all that it wouldnt be a huge shock us to flog RvP, Walcott & Song before the deadline!

Do you just assume that to begin with and work backwards? Wenger signed him --> He must be a typical Wenger purchase --> He's probably very fast and excellent technically

I think he's a good player but wouldn't go as far as saying signing of the summer etc like some journos are. He'll have a good season IMO but not top bracket.

Agree, I'm looking for both players to do well. Possibly even fill the void if RVP isnt there this season. Although I've only seen bits and pieces of Giroud.
