Santiago Cazorla

He hasn't really stood out as being hugely impressive any time I've seen him play, which admittedly isn't a whole lot, but from the sounds of things seems quite highly rated. 3 attack mined players signed already by Arsenal, none particularly young, and all for high enough fees. Has Wenger had a stroke or something?

Where do people think he'll play? I thought it'd be on the wing, but others seem to think he'll play centrally.

I thought the three signings would be first choice, Giroud being flanked by Podolski and Cazorla. But guess he could play ahead of Song and Arteta.

I personally think the team will be the back five, followed by Song and Arteta playing centrally, Cazorla pushed up in front of them, Ox and Podolski/Theo go wide and Giroud through the top.

Yeah could be that, then with Wilshere coming back he could move wide, or against weaker team maybe play both of them. Definitely gives you good options.

He's a good player and will add a lot to that midfield along with Arteta - I expect them to get into sync pretty quickly...Santi is going to be a very fouled player...I was already looking forward to Giroud but he will be even better with Cazorla picking him out left & right

I'm guessing you've seen him more than anyone here so would be quite interested in hearing your opinion of how you rate him and what would you say his main qualities are as a player?

Carzola, Arteta and Song in midfield... very interesting.

I'm still working on that basis, but it's becoming increasingly unlikely he's going. There's just absolutely nothing happening about it, anywhere. No-one even seems interested, despite the papers bigging up a move from United.

it being quiet leads me to believe the utd deal is going to happen, but I'm split about it. partially i want him to stay at arsenal and I think if he signs a new contract he could become your all-time leading scorer (i think he definitely has 100 goals left in his boots if he stays fit).

on the other hand, seeing as how i rate him, him and rooney up top would piss on the league. however, it just doesn't sit 'right' with me. I guess i'm too much of a romantic.

In fairness he's nothing like Xavi but then you'll have Wilshere to do that eventually and Arteta pretending to while he's still out. Realistically I think his position will depend on how Ramsey, Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain develop. If the two wide players are struggling for form then Cazorla might have a home for himself out there, or if Ramsey needs replacing then Cazorla can slot in and provide that consistent passing threat. He'll not be there to control the game like Xavi but to influence it further forward dribbling and probing more like Iniesta.

Spot on, though I think he's more like Silva/Mata than Iniesta who's unique.

I just read that Arsenal have spent almost 40 million this summer already. What on earth in happening?!

Podolski - £11mill
Giroud - £12mill
Carzola - £12mill (rising to £16mill)

Those are the rough figures so a bit below £40mill. I think we will be looking to offload Chamakh, Squilaci, Arshavin & Bendtner as well. You could be more cynical and say maybe we are expecting RvP to leave as well and just getting our replacement players in early rather than our usual last minute scramble!

If rumours are to be believed our spending isn't over yet, maybe we've won the Euromillions? ;) More likely years of being very prudent and running a very tight ship we are starting to hopefully bring ourselves into a position where we can afford to spend a bit of money. Not mega money on single players but imo what we have done above is much better than blowing it all on someone like Hazard.

We got £60M late on last season without any real chance to spend it.

Again, if you want to suggest that Arsenal spent £12 million on Cazorla you're going to need to come up with a convincing story as to why the better clubs in europe weren't bidding for him. Seems more likely he cost closer to the higher end of figures speculated about and that would put more clubs off him

Another thing is wages. He'll have been on high wages at Malaga, hence the attraction there. Wonder what you've offered him

For feck's sake quit while you're (miles) behind. You've called this wrong at every turn.

Most clubs who can afford £12m can afford £15m too. At the end of the day, we were just the best prepared team to pounce, and we got him. It's a great signing that a lot of clubs will rue missing out on.

Ekeke, from what has been reported we have paid a rather big chunk of our money upfront which a lot of clubs weren't willing to do. Also who would he sign for? Barca & R.Madrid well covered, Chelsea & Man Utd have spent big money for attacking midfielder so don't need him. Then you have Man City who from what I can gather have a policy at the moment of only signing once they get rid of some players and then again they have Silva there as well. Italy is another option but a lot of players in general put off going to there for obvious reasons (makes the RvP to Juve link all the more surprising for me).

We acted fastest and most decisively as I believe Malaga needed the money asap. They weren't in a position to start offering him about as they needed someone who had the money and could act fast and that was us. Also when you take into consideration the reasons above not all that surprising we got him.

We spent a fair chunk of that last summer, Ox - £12mill, Arteta - £10mill, Mertesacker - £10mill, Gervinho - £10mill & Santos - £6mill were the major signings. Then again you could probably argue the money spent here might be from the summer before....

How would you be the best team to pounce?

Cazorla says that Fabregas told him that he should go to Arsenal.

We were obviously monitoring the Malaga situation better than most, and most likely sounded out a deal long before the media picked up on their troubles.

You seem remarkably disappointed we got him. Almost as if you can't come to terms with it.

Madrid are always involved when its a Spanish player rated highly, PSG are sticking their noses everywhere, Spurs have money coming in for Modric, Chelsea are signing everyone, Milan need to rebuild and now have some money to use, Juventus have just sold Krasic so there should be a space and so on.

Its a great signing because other teams are sure to have had an interest in him. So there needs to be something more to explain why you guys were the only ones bidding. If he's on the very very cheap and he's willing to take a wage cut, there would have been a public auction for him

So you're telling me you think Arsenal in England are going to be more alert to the situation of Malaga in Spain than local Spanish clubs?

I suppose Barcelona were the first to hear about Portsmouth's troubles

I'm very impressed Arsenal got him, without people making out you got him on £12 million and with lower wages than he was on at Malaga. Sounds a bit far fetched

Apparently we made moves as soon as Hierro walked in the May.

Added to the fact we were in discussions with him last season but couldn't commit to the transfers without sorting out Fabregas & Nasri as well as securing CL qualification, by which time Malaga had tied up the deal.

All reports point to a salary of 70k a week.

How would you be the best team to pounce?

Q: where is Cazorla likely to go?
A: to a top CL club in La Liga or PL.

Q: what about La Liga, must be first choice?
A: yeah but no room at the inn at RM or Barca.

Q: England then, what about City, Chelsea or Man Utd
A: City have got Silva, Chelsea have got Mata, Hazard and Oscar, Man Utd have just bought Kagawa.

It's not fecking rocket science is it?

Panic.

There were lucky to finish 1 point ahead of Spurs last season and are maybe about to lose their most prolific goal scorer.

Lucky for the 16th season in a row, you better start sacrificing a few virgins.

He's the closest thing Spain have got to Iniesta albeit a class below. Great signing who'll link in fluidly with Arteta, Wilshere and Song. Like the best and nimblest technically gifted midfielders, he'll do a good job out wide too if required.

Quite right my old mucker.........but on here.......pearls before swine

Good for Arsenal's fans. The cynic in me does think that this means RVP is a gonner, but it also makes me think not to us..

So who's got better fm stats caftards, Kagawa or Cazorla??

He's not Silva or Mata. He's spent almost all of his career on the wing including last season, Chelsea are still contacting clubs about players in his position and so are PSG.

I wonder if you'd have more of a clue about rocket science. Cant have less of one.
