Sancho-less Window - Realistic Linked Targets

I would much rather go all out for Sancho this season and sign no one else until next summer. With him we would have a very young set of 4 players for the front three. Our defence is not as bad as many try to make out and there is no obvious signing out there to improve the defence and available.

Sancho has to be top priority in this window without any shadow of a doubt

The team that finished level with us bought Werner and Ziyech and are about to get Havertz. Three game changers, all potentially bordering on world class.

We're not going to finish above them with Grealish, Brooks and Torres.

Hate to break it to you but that said team have 150m from Hazard or Morata sales plus two years of transfer money to spend.

Chelsea were always winning this window. We have bought Maguire, AWB, Bruno n James whilst they only could get Kovacic don't forget. They are catching up now and we can't really do anything about it.

Grealish, Brooks and Torres would be an underwhelming transfer window in my opinion. Would much rather is bring in 2 top quality players and focus on trimming the rest of the deadwood from the squad.

Sancho and a CDM this window. We need a CB I know, but I'm of the opinion we should wait until next summer and try for Upamecano when it seems like he'll be available.

Grealish, Torres and Brooks won't bring us to the next level, they're just more of the same in my opinion. On the other hand, Sancho and Neves are game changers. Just look at Bruno and what one top player can do. Would you swap him for two 'squad depth' players.

We can look to do our business more shrewdly when we have 14-15 top quality first team players, and a current squad competing on all fronts. Until then, we need to add real quality into the squad.

Priorities: LB, CB, DMC, RW

LB - Reguilon/Telles - £20m
CB - Badiashille/Torunarigha - £30m
DMC - Roca/Sangare - £20m
RW - Chiesa/Berardi/Sarr - £45m

= c.£115m

With a couple of sales, we might even have a bit left in the kitty for a backup attacking midfielder like Buendia or Van De Beek (c. £25m).

Great picks. Unpopular opinion as it might be - I think an approach as above would make us a far better team than one Jadon sized Right Winger.

Reguilon / Badiashille / Roca / Sarr and I think we'd have played a blinder.

IN
Jimenez
Brooks (promising young talent and worth a punt)
Ronaldo for £54m !!! (Pirlo is said to be keen on getting him off the wage bill, so he can rebuild the squad)
DM ?
CB ? (I can't see this being Ole's priority as we have 5 CB's, plus Smalling already)

OUT
Smalling - £18m to £20m
Lingard - we pay them to take him away
Peirera - £5m (Portuguese club)
Dalot - £10m
Rojo - Free
Jones - Donated to the NHS for practice.

Mata has one more season left on his contract. He'll go on a Free next summer.

Ronaldo? Wtf! And at 54m. Jesus.

Absolutely agreed, I'd prefer just Sancho coming in rather than two or three more benchwarmers...

Nuno Mendes £35m
Badiashelle £25m
Soumare £30m
Soteldo £10m + Pereirra
Chiesa £50m

£150m

Out: Dalot (£20m), Mensah (£5m), Jones (£5m), Smalling (£20m), Rojo (£5m), Bailly (£20m), Lingard (£25m), Mata (£5m)

£105m - Do that and take away the £50m Chiesa fee and sign Sancho anyway instead and its £100m net spend and probably a reduction in wages next year not even taking into account SAnchez

Still reckon we could get a decent CB & AM if we can sell some players as well, yes I know there is a very strong possibility that we won't get much money for our deadwood but every bit helps

Bale or Perisic on loan for a year, then go back in for Sancho.

Alternatively I really like Marcel Sabitzer. Not quite the same style of player as Sancho but would give us good balance in the sense that he's extremely hard working, a great crosser and can use his left foot pretty well.

Also can play CAM and CM to a high level. Wouldn't expect he would be too expensive either.

Ryan Fraser as a Sancho alternative ?
He's got pace and we all know Ole likes pace.

Coman on loan or at a good price, plus upamecano and Thiago or a good defensive midfielder.
Go back for sancho in January or next summer.
I’d say traore but wolves would ask for mad money.

You throw half of these players at the United scouting network and they'll think they're reading fictional player names from Pro Evo.

The only problem with waiting for Sancho is that he could well have a lot more suitors this time next year hence why we have to get him now because will only be gutted when he rips it up for someone else instead

I’d be happy with a more rounded window than blowing all the cash in Sancho. Unfortunately I don’t know the market well enough to say who the best players would be but a well invested 30m in each 4 positions feels better than 120m in one given the current state of the squad

RW
CDM
LCB
LB

Totally agree, I hope we get him now because of that.
But if not, coman has looked good in the last two champions league games coming on as a sub and was always good at taking on defenders so would be an ok option rotating with greenwood. We need something extra on the right wing.

I just don't understand why some people think that Sancho would be a genuine option for us next Summer.
If we cannot sign him now in a one horse race, then we'd had absolutely no chance next year, when there are more options on the table for him and the asking price is likely to be even higher.
In my opinion, its now or never.

Yeah I wouldn't be averse to Coman or Dembele on a loan deal as an absolute last resort at the end of the window if we cannot get Jadon, however we should still be focusing on selling some players before that to raise some funds for a decent CB and AM as well because we cannot be leaving that until the last minute too

Well said Elvis

Well he wants to come back to England which is the whole reason he’s leaving Dortmund in the first place.

barca are skint, Madrid have plenty of wide options already and tbh I can’t see him enjoying Spanish lifestyle anyway.

so that leaves us, city, pool?

yes maybe there will be more risk but we have just as much of a chance next year also. Finances might get worse before they get better.

If we walked away from Dortmund's demands I'd guess we could sign the following three players with the kind of structured deals that Dortmund won't entertain.

Grealish
Torres
Brooks

How would we feel about a window like that, or is it Sancho or bust?

I think it would be acceptable.
Really underwhelmed. Sancho's that elite de Ligt / Mbappe / de Jong-esque signing we've been crying out for so long.

With the amount of deals that need to be done, both in and out, I think it would be best to have low expectations for the transfer window. If sancho is signed, great but I wouldn’t be expecting any more in after that, maybe one. Surely we feel confident on the sancho deal because otherwise it would be strange not to be strongly linked to others now.

I agree , tbh I would rather see Greenwood play more Central and Sancho , Martial , Rashford and Greenwood pushing each other for a starting place

So who else could we realistically afford (player sales permitting) along with Sancho. Yes I would love Thiago but cannot see any way that he turns down the scousers for us when he looks to have his heart set on the move.

Not sure Realistically. But the way things are financially with the Pandemic putting bids on players you thought you might not get could be on the cards e.g . Saul or Frenkie de Jong . not saying it will happen but worth a stab

We really are going to sign someone right? Cos blink a few times and it's September. Yes the window lasts till October but best to have your new players at the start (we should know this better than most by now). I can't wait for when our transfer activity moves beyond tabloid and Caf chatter.

Who should be bring in on RW if we are unable to get Sancho

I stick to Greenwood as the number 1 and buy 1 good squad players to cover for the front 3. And strengthen other areas of the pitch. Next season we try again for him, atleast our economic position would be clearer.

The suggested three players in the OP would be an awful window.

Have we forgotten who we are, we're Manchester United and looking at signing the likes of Brooks, Grealish and Torres when we're MEANT to be attempting to reach the top again. Meanwhile look at what Chelsea are doing...

The club need to decide what we really want to be going forward. Are we European elite or are we an alsorun top 6 team. Likewise as fans our expectations need to be set to match.

Ole talks the game of progressing and getting back to where we belong, the club need to back him and demonstrate that ambition.

Brooks... Jesus Christ, we already have Dan James stinking out the place. Need to move away from average (or below average) British talent.

I understand we need squad depth but are we really going to spend the sancho money on three players who won’t even get in the first team? I mean they are so far below the players in their position that if we were fit and playing well there is a chance they.get 10-15 games

Reports this morning that Wolves are willing to sell Traore. I would be all over that. He's a game changer. Traore this window and Sancho next summer and United have the best 5 (for 3 forward places) in world football. Mata, Ighalo, Lingard and James could all be moved on.

He always has to be subbed because he's fecked after an hour. Solskjaer doesn't look at his bench until after the 80th min. Recipe for disaster.

Grealish may be answer for that?

I would go

Lyon's Dembele(45)
Grealish(45+AT)
Saul(60)
Badaishile(25)

We can get 70M by selling 6/7 fringe players means we will have a better team with 100M net spend in this window.

I dont mind shipping out Dalot for 20M and buy Rayan Ait-Nouri to cover LB postion. so net spend will remain same as 100M.

If we have to sell Pogba then use that money to buy someone like VDB or Auoar or both so that way our squad will become more balanced.

Traore is a bit overrated imo -he looks a bit better than he really is because wolves game is design to suit him.
