I just saw this, this would be 2 summers in a row when French tv has teased us

What Umtiti did on TV programme
As reported by Marca, Sport, and other news outlets, Umtiti used his "joker" option when the journalist asked him about his future plans and renewing his contract at Barcelona.

If that wasn't enough, the Frenchman, whose current contract runs out in 2021, produced the exact same response to the question: "Will you sign for Manchester United?"

To prove that Umtiti knew what he was saying, he confidently answered "yes" after being asked whether teammate Lionel Messi was better than Cristiano Ronaldo.
 
Are there any proper links to the story other than some speculation which pops up every time a top class player wants a contract renewal?

If we really want him, we will have to play dirty like the Spanish teams do, especially like what Barca do with every transfer. Tap him up with Pogba, Martial ;invite his family to dinners and stuff, promise huge wages all that.
But even if we do, I don't see him leaving Barca, they are on course to win the La Liga, will go deep in the CL, have invested huge amounts with a possible Griezmann buy, giving him another French mate.

I hope the club is not considering him as the first choice (if he is a target that is) . Yeah its good to keep an eye on the negotiations but we should be focusing on Alderweireld.
He looks like he's ready to move, PL proven, experienced, will be coming here because he wants to win trophies and I feel he compliments Bailly better than Umtiti, especially as Toby is better in the air.
There was a report in HLN which said Spurs could sell him for 44 mill Pounds, which is actually a pretty good price. If he's available, we should dedicate all our efforts to getting him signed up
 
Another Ramos situation.

We've obviously given them a good offer in hope of snaring him, but I think he will just use it to raise Barca's offer as high as possible.

By my rough maths he seems to be asking for close to 200k a week which isn't a small bump nor does he have any ties to Barca that makes you think he genuinely wouldn't leave.
I suspect Barca wouldn't be too unhappy if he left provided they can sign a quality, cheaper alternative.

It's the same story than with Benzema, Barcelona is the club that he supports and the club he has always targetted. That's how Barcelona got him for relatively cheap, Umtiti had the same type of deal that Benzema had with Lyon regarding Real Madrid.
 
Umtiti's angling for a new deal. I have no doubt in my mind that he wants to stay at Barcelona.

The opportunity for United is what happens if Barca don't bow to his wishes. This is how Neymar to PSG happened. Neymar's camp weren't looking to leave Barca but they burned bridges chasing cash and then...

If Barcelona flat out refuses to compromise on Umtiti's pay then the player has to decide: Accept Barca's stance or go somewhere where you'll get what you want.

I'd rate United's chances of buying Umtiti at under 10% but the future, as they say, only God knows.
 
How is he in air ? With Barca they always dominates with the ball and so haven't got an opportunity to see how he fares if up against the wall.
 
I don't believe there is any chance of signing him.

But he would be fantastic. By far the best defender at Barcelona and also way better than Bailly.

On the one hand i'd be mad, that there are less and less english players in our squad, but on the other hand Umtiti is young and extremley good. If there is any chance to sign him, please do!

Umtiti wants his salary to be level with players like Iniesta and Suarez, but Barça feel that this demand is unreasonable. At the moment, senior officials at the club feel that Umtiti is closer to Manchester United than to renewing with Barça.

Agree with both. He will get what he wants or close to it.

Although after how we got Sanchez you have to say you never know, reality is more likely to be a Ramos situation.
 
Great move by Mourinho if true. Barca are delusional if they think they can low ball an elite player in the current transfer market.

This is nothing like Ramos. Literally everyone knew Ramos would sign on again as he was going to be given the captaincy and the fact he was/is their best defender and a Spaniard who has been there since he was 18. Umtiti's situation is much different and can see him jumping ship if Barca don't pay him what he's worth.

Umtiti is African born unlike Ramos who is a Spaniard. Umtiti doesn't have a special bond with Barca either.

It seems like we have offered him quite a lucrative deal and Barca have got the shits trying to match the offer.
 
I think both Smalling and Jones could be sold this summer. It’s been too long with both players.
 
I just dont see it happening. Barca know what is at stake here. They wont let him out walk out for that money in today's market.

Maybe this time we can capitalize, about time i'd say. I don't think our chances are that slim, we remain an interesting project with history, lots of money and some very good (french) players.

But I think buying a very good CB, especially a ball playing CB could change the way we play.
Right now I feel Mou knows that our defense is not very secure or trustworthy, all our CBs have a mistake in them with no real leader at the back.
If we can get a top CB, Mou won't feel the need to commit all the midfielders to defense plus we will be able to build up play better from the back.
Add two top class fbs and we are ready to rock and roll
 

His brother is also his agent. Don't think Barca will give him what he wants.

I honestly will be staggered if we sell Smalling, he's our only reliably fit CB alongside Lindelof who he doesn't seem to trust. More likely he'll ship out Jones/Blind.

Blind and Darmian are gone. Smalling hinders our build up. Jones is always injured. They are holding us back.
