Samuel Eto'o

we should bid 20 million for him. i reckon Barca will accept. he's worth it IMO

He's definitely worth that amount, I reckon Barca would want more for him actually considering he's probably in the top 3 strikers in the world.

I'd bid for him if he's willing to move, definitely. I'd love to see him here, I'd even say we should go up to £30million. But I think we need to be realistic. It's unlikely he's going to move here. United are an enormous club, but he's just won the Treble at the club he's at and I don't think he's going to be too willing to leave Barca. Yes, the Premier League is the best league in the world, but if the team you're at is currently the best in the league you play in (Barca are the best in La Liga), you hardly need to move.

£30m for a 28 year old? Can you see any of the big clubs pay that much? Course not.

He'll get as much when he moves next season, on a free. If he didn't have a year left on his contract, I think he would've moved.

You don't think he'll want to try and negotiate signing another contract at Barca? I think he will, especially if Barca win La Liga again. They're currently one of the best (if not the best) teams in the world remember. I don't think he'd be that willing to move at all, and he's definitely one of the best strikers in the world so I'm sure Barca would be willing to keep him.

news report that Eto'o is set to reject Man City's terms/offer/proposed wages

Can't say I'm surprised if that's true.

Anyone else think this is turning out to be pretty embarrassing for City? They've got all the money in the world, they're offering obscene amounts... and even that isn't enough for the top players to want to sign there.

The price to get him isn't gunna be too much of a stumbling block. He goes for nothing next year so any money they make is a bonus. They might hold out for £10million + on point of principle, but anything around that mark and he'd go I reckon. The problem is whether he'd want to come or not. You'd fancy if United put some interest in, we'd have a good chance of getting him, even if we pay less than a club like City would

Sadly seems Sir Alex isn't interested :(

He's be fecking mint with Rooney I tells ya

City are moving way too fast, they need to build a soild Prem team that will displace one of the top 4 and qualify for Europe first. Then they can start attempting to purchase Galacticos-type players. You have to learn to walk before you can run, right?

He's not going to get £250k a week at Barca - the only way he's going to get near that amount is by moving on a free.

yeah... but just imagine if they can sign one or 2 quality players and sneed a cl place...

with that much money then how many players will they sign... It could make madrids galactico policy look rather lackluster...

i remember when roman brough chelsea and people said the same about would top players want to go there... well some cl football and a couple of decent seasons and all of a sudden man city COULD extablish themselves...

i soooo want to laugh at the whole eto and kaka thing... but i just think it might come back to haunt us in a couple of seasons... karma and all that

Ah, thought he was actually younger than that. Oops.

Yeah, £30mill is too much then. Around £22mill then? Or maybe even less.

Well, considering he's in his final year of a contract, I don't see why not. As Brad said something over 10-12m is better than nowt next season.

Fergie's got his reasons, obviously. I think he likes to buy players who he thinks will fit in. Eto'o does seem to have a volatile personality, by all accounts. Or maybe he just doesn't fancy him. But yeah, he's quality. ]]

That said I'd get the Drog and he's a biggest cnut of them all.

are you being sarcastic?

because we did spunk 30 million on berba who was 27 when we signed him.

eto'o is younger than berba.

He was 27 and we had been chasing him for a couple of seasons. But the point stands - two strikers approaching their 30's, both could be sold on for next to nothing. Nah, I doubt we'll even consider spending that type of cash on a 28 year, especially one with only a year left on his contract. Benzema seems more plausible. feck, even Aguero does.

You certainly do. I agree with this post entirely. They need to start signing the good, but not amazing, players first and work their way up the table. It's going to take them a long time to get into the top 4 though in my opinion because they're still nowhere near that standard and I think the teams who usually finish 5th and 6th - Villa and Everton - are still better than them, and so still standing in their way.

He might not get 120K a week, but he's still going to be getting an awful lot, and still playing at the top level and challenging for a lot of trophies. Maybe he'd prefer that to signing for City and earning a lot but winning nothing (for at least a while) and not even playing in Europe?

That's so much easier said then done though. It's going to take more than one or 2 quality players. The top 4 in English football is so secure and well-established that it's going to take a mighty club to break the stranglehold in my opinion. Add to that the fact the teams in 5th and 6th position are still stronger then City and you realise City are still a way off.

I also don't see Chelsea as much of a fair comparison actually because Chelsea were already close to the top 4 when Roman brought them. They'd already broken into it if I remember correctly, and were already playing in the CL. They were nowhere near the biggest club, but they were considerably better placed then City. They'd won a few trophies here and there. Plus, the top 4 wasn't as well established as it is now.

Maybe City need to sign the Galacticos type players in order to get into the top 4, but they can't get the Galacticos unless they're in the top 4. See the difficult position they're in?

Eto'o is fecking nuts. He's what 28? He's angry that the club is seemingly plotting to force him off to get some money for him.

Clearly, Barca want to sell Eto'o unless he signs an extension. And they are no way going to meet his wage demands and they are trying their best to sell Eto'o. Eto'o doesn't want to go anywhere, not even to Valhalla, just to piss off the catalans so that he could move on a free next year (Just to piss them off and also demand some chunk of the money the buying club might pay Barca)

It's risky for Eto'o to risk an year playing in the reserves so that he can move on a free, especially at his age. But the nutter might just do it.

I agree with your premise. just wish we had thought of that more before signing berbatov.

Unlike Berbatov, much of his game is reliant on his pace, which will start to fade fairly soon.

eto'o without pace will still have a striker's instinct that berba will never have. fact is, eto'o at 30 million quid now is much better value for money than berba last year at 30 million. eto'o actually has talent worth 30 million quid. berbatov's registration cost 30 million..not his talent.

i personally think spurs did have the goods on us and liverpool regarding 'tapping up' and we were partially forced into agree to petty much their whole price.

What's the deal with Eto'o?

Is he staying at Barca now?

part of me actually wants Eto'o to go to City... so that they can lineup like this:

Not when they're offering average players like Barry near 100k per week and then the starlets of the world wages 150-250k per week.

That's a stupid lineup. Why is Given playing when they have Sturridge and Ched Evans? Silly, really.

Sturridge is off the Chelsea, and no called Chedwyn could be cut out for goalkeeping

He'll prove you wrong, next season, Ezee.

i do hope so...

though my expectations are so low that he could outperform tham and still be a flop...

i just see him as veron mk2... great player... just not what we need... but who knows if they can find a way of getting rooney behind him and buying some wingers it might work... the only problem is if they do that berbatov is probably going to have to actually run a bit... maybee even make a bit of a handfull of himself to occupy defennders to free up space for rooney... and its this whole effort and running thing that I think he will struggle with...

home im wrong and he bangs in 30 goals next season and comes back with a great work ethic... though the fact that he still smokes makes me think that just perhaps he is not 100% dedicated to being the best player he can be

It is reported in the Sun,yeah OK the Sun. That Eto wants a 12mill signing on fee,he believes he is entitled to te cash because Barcelona seen to be driving him out.the sun says that they have met and Hughes is impressed with Eto's attitude and commitment to City's cause.but Eto has said to Huges that he is not motivated by money? And he wants a 12 mil signing in fee.
It also says that City are convinced the deal will be sealed by the end of the week.
Only time will tell but it sounds like Sun bullshirt to me.
