Samuel Eto'o

So if Eto'o signs for City is it purely financial or does he really expect to achieve great success for them? I mean there's only a handful of clubs equal to Barcelona but City are so insignificant in the footballing world and suddenly have some rich bastards tossing cash around like it's going out of style. I'd be gutted to see such a great talent go to such a shit club.

To be fair i'm with VidaRed on that one. He's a player that wants to play at big clubs but will then sulk, bitch, whinge and moan if he has some competition.

He's shown his true colours this last few months.

Ronaldo i wish well, Tevez can go feck himself for all i care, "i don't feel loved" bull shit. A stadium full of people showing undying love for you, begging the manager to sign you up and you repay us by fecking off to our same city rivals?!

And i used to be a Tevez fanboi before any of you cnuts start.

Atleast one was clear with the fans as to what he was doing in the last few weeks. Tevez made it clear it would be difficult to stay, and consequently rejected an offer. Whereas Ron said he was definitely staying one minute and then asked to leave the next. So I don't really know why you would prefer Ron.

I don't care whether you loved Tevez or not, but if he isn't going to stay here his only real viable option is City.

Don't know what his motives would be, but if you have Tevez, Eto'o and Robinho in a team you would expect then to have some success. Surely?

Ronaldo couldnt win. When he was saying "who knows" everyone got on at him, then he said "I'll stay" and now people are getting on at him but if he'd have said "i'm off" then feck me there would have been a riot.

Besides, Fergie knew he was going and i'll guarantee Fergie told him to say he was staying whenever he was asked.

And as for city being his only viable option, that's nonsense.

In fairness to Eto'o, last season he had a mega offer to go and play for a minted club in Uzbekistan but turned them down. Clearly though, City's project is far greater than that of the Uzbek's

Who else do you actually think really wants him like City in England? I think you would be struggling to find any club with £25 mil free other than City. I don't really think Chelsea are that interested, if anything they have distanced themselves from reports.

Ronaldo the victim. That got old long ago. The guy messed about for a season, the fans in all honesty would of proffered the honesty, they wouldn't of rioted. Not in a million years, not over him, not over a player who didn't want to play for us.

Thats not really true. There would have been a big deal about it made, I reckon.

I don't think many fans would have preferred the honesty. I wouldn't have found it easy to support him if, halfway through the season, he had come out and said he was going to leave at the end of the season. Many fans would have booed him. Rio was booed for stalling over signing a new contract. Ignorance is bliss. I was happy to believe the lie then and I don't feel betrayed by it now.

As for Eto'o, I believe that he single handedly could have City battling for a Champions League place next season. I pray he doesn't join them.

Real would have taken 15 mill not that long ago because they would have lost him for free next summer.

It really is the silly season.

Ok, think for a minute about what would have happened if Ronaldo had come out and announced to the world that he intended to leave at the end of the season. Wouldn't have exactly put us in a great bargaining position when Real came calling, would it? Probably would've shaved 10-20m pounds off the price we got. Instead, he was saying he was happy to stay, ensuring that Real payed full price (which gels with what he was saying the previous season - that he'd be happy to move as long as Real payed the kind of money they were talking about).

I wonder which option Fergie would've wanted him to take?

If The Sun story is true that Eto'o's will be paid a quarter of million pounds a week (making him the world's richest player) then it will well pee-off Ronaldo.

Well done City!

Thats just the thing, as much of a cnut as Ronaldo is, he lad already stated his desire and "dream" to play for Real Madrid, so it was only a matter of time as to when that happened. He wanted to play for Madrid more than he did for United, simple as.

You know honesty is not about beating your chest up and telling the supporters that they are in your heart all the time. Honesty is also not about using the fans as a bargaining chip or to coerce pity in one's situation only to laugh at some of their ill advised attempts to have you signed by whoring yourself out to everyone bar United. Honesty is about realising the need to perform better and doing it for the club, not hanging dirty linens in public and certainly NOT joining a traditional rival.

This.

Manchester City are believed to have had a £25m bid for striker Samuel Eto'o accepted by Barcelona.

The Spanish club's president Joan Laporta claimed City have made the 28-year-old Cameroon international a "stratospheric offer" to join them.

Reports have suggested the Eastlands club have offered Eto'o wages of up to £250,000 per week, which would make him the highest-paid player in the world.

Eto'o has scored more than 100 goals in five seasons with Barcelona.

He joined the Catalan side in 2004, signing from Mallorca for a fee of about £16m.

Eto'o helped Barcelona to win a treble trophy haul of the Spanish league title, domestic cup and Champions League in the 2008-2009 campaign.

He scored the opening goal in the Champions League final in Rome as Barcelona beat Manchester United 2-0.

In doing so he became only the second player, after Raul, to score in two Champions League finals because Eto'o was also on target in Barcelona's 2-1 victory against Arsenal in 2006.

Already this summer City have signed striker Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn for £18m and Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry for £12m.

And it is believed City are also chasing Manchester United forward Carlos Tevez, who is soon to be out of contract, and Everton defender Joleon Lescott.

Espanyol have also confirmed that City are keen to sign their 16-year-old midfielder Joan Angel Roman.

Samuel Eto'o's agent will hold a press conference on Tuesday in a bid to clarify the Barcelona striker's future.

On Sunday, Barca president Joan Laporta claimed Manchester City had made a "stratospheric offer" to Eto'o.

The Cameroon international's future is the subject of conjecture as he enters the final year of his current contract.

Reports emanating from Spain suggest Eto'o's representative, Jose Maria Mesalles, is to announce the forward plans to see out his deal at Barca.

The striker, who will not attend the press conference, has one more year to run on his deal with the European champions, after which he could leave Camp Nou as a free agent.

 @ City

Another one turns them down :D

I'd be shocked if he took it. Eto'o seems like a good, professional player who wants to do well, which he won't do at City for the foreseeable future.

Fact is, footballers like Eto'o are already on massive money. 250k is a lot, but does it justify sacrificing actually winning stuff?

You're right. A lot of people on here don't want to admit that you can buy yourself success, but the fact remains that you can. You'll see City vastly improve this season if they can get the players in

But the old saying goes you can only play 11 players at any given time (Unless you're United according to RAWK), i reckon next season City will be near the top 4 but i think they have to make a foundation from their defense and build up not make it top heavy with average defenders. Their front 4 if they get Tevez and Eto'o would be good but it all depends how they play with the existing system.

Balague just said on Sky "Eto'o looks like turning down Manchester Shitty". Not sure if that was his Spanish twang or an astute observation.

I agree if City get the players they want ,then they will have to be taken has a threat ,but I dont think that they will win the PL not next season ,I think they will get the top 6 maybe top 4.

Just heard that City want to pay Eto £250'000 a week WTF planet are they on and if true what player could turn that amount of money down, even with 50% tax that is still half a mill and month , stupid money

we could easily match the transfer fee if we were interested, but no way we'd pay that kind of wages for eto'o.

i still hope we do put in a bid for him, and give sensible wages and see if he would come.

That's the way I view it as well.

Eto'o is already earning massive wages at Barcelona. Yes, he can be on much bigger wages at City, but why leave a club that's just won the Treble to go to a club that's nowhere near the CL, hasn't won a trophy in over 3 decades and isn't even the biggest club in their city?

I think he'll be happy earning a huge amount and playing on the biggest stage and winning trophies then he would be earning an obscene amount but winning nothing for a fair few seasons yet and not even playing in Europe.

Kaka turned City down, for even more money, after all. I just think that despite the amount of money City's owners have, City are just too small a club to be able to sign these massive players because they're just not attractive to the top players.

It's like City are just a step too far to be made into a really big club, even for the richest owners. Players have got to want to go there.

He'll get as much when he moves next season, on a free. If he didn't have a year left on his contract, I think he would've moved.

Looks like Etoo will be the latest to reject City
