Samuel Eto'o

Barca's key is their midfield, which is probably the best in club football today, an excellent mix of age, experience and talent and will stay together for at least 3-4 years more plus they have Messi

Any decent finisher will score a lot of goals ahead of that midfield. Eto'o isn't that vital a cog in the team

Agree about their midfield being key, but go through some of the goals etoo has scored this season, I watched them the other day in a clip, and you'll see those arent goals that any decent finisher will score. In fact remember his goal in Rome, not many can do what he did to Vidic.

well you could say the same about furgusons attitude towards ronaldo, because for all the good attackers we have we dont have anyone quite like ronaldo... was it a serious mistake to let him go?

i guess the similarities are that they both seem to want to go and it seems they were both persuaded to give one extra season (last season)... also cant eto agree a bosman in january (might be wrong about that?)... if so that makes it even more imperriative t get something for him now i guess

the strange thing is that while ronaldo wanted to leave, Etoo wants to stay but Guardiola is driving him away. The only explnation I can imagine is that Guardiola wants someone who can contribute more in the build up, and the first name that comes to mind is Zlatan. But in my opinion letting Etoo go, even with their strong midfield and good attackers, would be a mistake that could prove decisive in the long run.

No, it was a stratospheric offer to Eto'o. The bid itself wasn't described as stratospheric.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed Manchester City have made a "stratospheric offer" to striker Samuel Eto'o.

The 28-year-old Cameroon international superstar has just one-year left on his contract with the European champions and is being tipped to leave Camp Nou.

Big-spending City have been linked with virtually ever player going this summer, although they recently recruited Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn.

However, manager Mark Hughes is far from finished his summer spending and it appears he is determined as ever to add Eto'o to his talented squad.
Highest paid

Laporta claims City's offer would make Eto'o the highest paid player in world football, a deal which may even eclipse the staggering six-year deal Cristiano Ronaldo recently penned with Real Madrid.

The Barca supremo claims Eto'o wants to stay, but concedes the offer may be too good to reject. He also confirmed the Catalan giants would seek a replacement if the striker departed.

"Eto'o has a stratospheric offer from City, which would convert him into the best paid player in the world," he told Catalan radio station iCat FM.

"It's starting to become clear that he has this monster offer. He wants to stay but an offer like this is very difficult to refuse.

"If Eto'o accepts this stratospheric offer we will have to bring in someone."

If Samuel Eto'o is playing for Shitty next season I may quit watching football.

They've been negotiating with Villa for a reason, they were never going to accommodate both at the same time and neither would settle for bench.

He'll be a great signing for City and could actually make them a decent contender for top 4. If they manage to pull it out, then I can see them becoming the next Chelsea.

We really need to start a Keep Hughes At City Campaign.

Robinho, Santa Cruz, Bellamy, Caicedo, Bojinov

with Tevez and Eto'o looking likely.

Caicedo and Bojinov are likely to leave, but they just bought Bellamy in January.

benjani ?

Chances are City will use a variation of this modern 433, so competing for the front 3 spots they have:

Petrov, SWP, Elano, Caicedo, Bojinov, Bellamy, Santa Cruz, Robinho, Jo, Tevez and Eto'o.

Some will leave but chances are that more will still be brought in too!

That's gunna be a lot of unhappy forwards at City. Unless they go 442, which i can't see to be honest.

Does Sparky have the clout, experience and man management skills to deal with the egos of Bellamy, Eto'o, Robinho, Elano, Ireland, Bojinov, Jo and Tevez (if he was unhappy at being on the bench at Utd, what will be be like at City)?

I very much doubt. Surely they should be focusing on strengthening their defence too.

A few public scenes of disobedience by these players could see Hughes undermined and out the door by Xmas.

Elano will play in midfield if he stays (which is doubtful), Ireland is a full-time midfielder for them as well. Robinho can be used on a wing too.

Eto'o will be a definite starter with Santa Cruz and Tevez fighting for a place next to him. I can't see Bellamy having too much of an impact, while Bojinov and Jo both have no hope and will probably move as soon as someone makes an offer.

What surprises me is that City don't seem to be going after any width players, they don't have that many of them.

4-3-3

with

Tevez--eto--Robiniho

4-2-3-1

Eto'o and Santa Cruz for the lead striker role. Tevez and Bellamy in the middle of the 3. Robinho, Petrov, Wright Phillips and Bojinov out wide. Barry, De Jong, Ireland and Kompany in the midfield.

it often seems the way that Shitty and Real focus so much on trying to buy in these expensive superstar attacking talents and neglect their defences, it would seem like common sense really, better to have 2 good defenders and 2 good strikers than go splashing everything on 4 strikers.

I don't see it like that. Kompany will be used as a centre half thus taking him out of the midfield equation. I expect their regular midfield to be:

De Jong
Ireland Barry

then with 3 of the 10(?) forwards playing in front of them.

Possibly. I was just basing it on how Hughes set them out last season. Time will tell, although the forwards they are signing don't really seem to be suited to wide roles.

well city are strongly linked with lescott and toure... say they get one of these

-----------------Given------------
Richards---Kompany---Lescott--Bridge

thats pretty decent... and they would have decent back up in

Zabaletta---Dunne----Haim---ohahua

pretty good for a team not even in europe...

That's kind of what i'm doing. In the second half of the season they lined up like this (more often than not)

Given
Richards Dunne Kompany Bridge
De Jong
Gelson/Elano Ireland
SWP Bellamy Robinho

Which is what makes me think they'll go with something similar this coming season. Something like:

Given
Richards Dunne Kompany Bridge
DeJong
Ireland Barry
Petrov/SWP/Caicedo/Bojinov/Bellamy/Santa Cruz/Robinho/Jo/Tevez/Eto'o

Why do people keep counting Caceido as one of their strikers when it's clear he won't feature next season and will probably move soon?

Man City are starting to put their money where their mouth is. They have a decent chance of getting Eto'o and he would definitely give them more of an attacking threat next season. If they can create a decent side that clicks then i see them posing a threat to the top 4. But their defence is still a cause for concern in the long run.

Tevez may not be too pleased though as he will have even more competition for a starting place. Sometimes the grass isnt always greener.

People are simply listing what options they currently have for that position.

Laporta: City make ''stratospheric'' offer for Eto'o

Barcelona president Joan Laporta claims that Manchester City have made a ''stratospheric'' offer to sign Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o.

Samuel Eto'o: Premier League transfer target

Speculation has been rife about where Eto'o will be next season as, with his contract set to expire next summer, Barca were keen to either tie him to a new deal or cash in on the Cameroon striker.

Reports suggest the Catalan giants have accepted a 30m euro bid from City and Laporta believes the temptation of a mega salary would prove too much for Eto'o.

''Eto'o has a stratospheric offer from City, which would convert him into the best paid player in the world,'' he told Catalan radio station iCat FM. ''It's starting to become clear that he has this monster offer.

''He wants to stay but an offer like this is very difficult to refuse. If Eto'o accepts this stratospheric offer we will have to bring in someone.''

Eto'o contributed 36 goals last season as Barca claimed an unprecedented Primera Division, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble.

Should the 28-year-old leave the Nou Camp, Barca would likely step up their efforts to land Spain and Valencia striker David Villa.
hmm....

Eto and Tevez it is then and with Robinho and cruz thrown in they have top frontline.

I think what he was getting at was that it was a repost

Someone is going to be benched. Probably Cruz but would be hilarious if Tevez was dropped.

IMO, Eto'o and Robinho are the first two names on the teamsheet.

Cruz has had some injury problems anyway, so he may be used sparingly from the bench, to get some extra goals. However it is well known that Hughes is a big fan of his, so he may not be benched too often.

i'll piss myself laughing if tevez ends up benched for half the season

well if he does then im sure he will still be living in the same house, sitting on a bench but earning more money than last season... at the end of the day i still dont think he would swap his life for yours...
stop being bitter and show some class by wishing him well

To be fair i'm with VidaRed on that one. He's a player that wants to play at big clubs but will then sulk, bitch, whinge and moan if he has some competition.

He's shown his true colours this last few months.

Ronaldo i wish well, Tevez can go feck himself for all i care, "i don't feel loved" bull shit. A stadium full of people showing undying love for you, begging the manager to sign you up and you repay us by fecking off to our same city rivals?!

And i used to be a Tevez fanboi before any of you cnuts start.
