Ryder Cup: Hazeltine Sept 30th- Oct 2nd: USA vs. Europe&GB

Nope to both. Although "get in the hole" shouted at someone teeing off for a 600 yard par 5 is pretty fecking annoying. Not to mention moronic :(

I'd just like to point out Europe are famously slow starters in the Ryder Cup so it's far from over. However, after the death of Arnold Palmer (RIP) at the weekend, I felt that the USA would be even more fired up than ever. They also have the more experienced and better side this year, and it's on home soil. Not that any of that matters at all, but all of it adds up and unfortunately I think the advantage is definitely with the Merkins. :(

Palmer was a bit of cnut though. Nicklaus is a true gentleman of the game. He did wonders for this competition and surpassed Arnold, which never sat well with him. Gary Player was a better golfer than Arnold as well. However, he was the first superstar of Golf. That is why he will be forever remembered.

There's something about the yanks cheering every time the European ball goes into any sort of hazard or in the rough that makes me want them to lose so badly (although Europe look absolute dog shit).

Yeah, but none of that is in question or debate really. The point being that the Americans on a whole love Palmer, he was a legend and will go down as one of the greatest ever to play the game and that the Americans really didn't need any extra motivation a week before the Cup started. The mere fact that it is something they can all unite together and help play together for is unfortunate for the European team. Just look at them all wearing Palmers logo, the little multi-coloured umbrella. He's everywhere and when interviewed every single American player has mentioned playing for him. As I said, that's some motivation and will not help Europe's difficult task on American soil and with a vastly less experienced team.

Indeed. Europe always try to do Seve proud.

Plus, the motivation that comes from years of not winning is something that Europe can't match.

Better efforts from Europe now. Some enjoyable golf being played out there. Stenson is on fire! Long way to go in the matches though.

Kaymer needs to sit his clown ass down. Langer would have been a better pick and he hits it about 260. Unreal how his swing change turned him into trash, except for those six weeks at the Players/US Open and one putt at Medinah.

Looking good for Europe in the afternoon, they will have the score to almost even by the end of the day.
Rose/Stenson vs. Spieth/Reed is the big one. 5-3 is manageable. 5 1/2 - 2 1/2 is still crap.

They've gone 3 up now so that's a big one. The way these matches are going, 5-3 looks the most likely outcome, which would be fantastic considering the foursomes. Still, one momentum switch and a 3 hole lead could evaporate.

Edit: make that 4 holes up.

Amazing golf this afternoon/evening from Europe. As I said, and as anyone who has watched the Ryder Cup over the last 20 or 30 odd years should know, Europe always start slowly. The crowd aren't helping team USA this evening though. They have gone quiet and are being narky as hell, even jeering their own players at times. They really are an embarrassment to the sport at times. Not all of them obviously, just the muppets who shout and jeer all the time and the ones who use the Ryder Cup as an excuse to get pissed.

I tried to justify the US fans to myself thinking it's just the way they are but some of the comments "go in the water" etc are disgraceful and lacking decency

Fantastic put by Pieters to win a hole to restore their 4 hole lead, this match looks pretty much over as well now. I've been very impressed with his attitude out there, he looks cool as ice.

Rory makes it 5-3 with a brilliant eagle! He came through when it was needed. Europe's reaction after going 4-0 down has been great, there was every risk of letting it slip away completely but they fought back in excellent fashion. Looking forward to more great golf during the weekend.

We might just be in with a chance now. Taking 3 points from 4 will really lift the players heading into Saturday.

I still think that the Yanks are favourites, but you just never know how far the spirit of the European team can take them.

Tonight's team meetings will be crucial.

McIlroy getting a lot of stick for his celebration. He was abused by those American fans throughout the whole day. I'd say he was reserved if anything.

Great golf played in the fourballs by Europe.

I really hope clarke's best mate Westwood is "rested" this morning. Also Kaymer. Willet was pretty fired up and deserves another pairing.

And in Kevin Keegan style I loved seeing Rose & Stenson get retribution and hammer the smug and spoilt Spieth, plus the cartman look-a-like Reed.

Rich Beem making the excuse of tiredness. Come on they are in their 20's. Simple fact was they couldn't handle their games tanking. Well not even that - they were both under par. Just couldn't handle being beaten and stropped.

They got what they deserved with their little gamesmanship ploys and ultra slow play if Europe had advantage

2 out of 3 isn't too bad.

Is he? Over in the USA you mean? The crowds have been a complete embarrassment if you ask me. The worst golf crowd I can remember. Aside from the usual shit "get in the hole" shout after a par 5 tee shot there were lots of mocking shouts towards European players. Willet's brother was spot on.

The crowd being cnuts is helping in a way. Rory was pissed yesterday but it really motivated him to win that last match.

It already looks like this first match will be an absolute cracker. I have to say I like watching the Mickelson and Fowler pairing. Win or lose, you just know they'll do it in spectacular fashion.

Foursomes not a success for Europe so far. McIlroy and Pieters are firing but let's hope the others can find a bit of form.

Rory should bow to Pieters, but even he can´t bail him out that many times.
