Ryan Sessegnon

The England 2000 age group is the best in the world, as was proven by winning the WC this summer, beating Germany 8-1 last year etc.

https://www.trainingground.guru/art...t-young-players-in-world-monchengladbach-boss

Scouts around the world know it too. Sessègnon is arguably the best player from that group, it is no secret. Anyone who knows anything about youth football knows that he is one of the best 17 year olds in the world.

He costs £25m reflective of the market and his potential. He doesn’t cost £100m because not all players develop to their potential, as is proven through history.

Oh I see. I’m definitely fine with it if he’s a genuine top class prospect. But then again for United’s situation I’d only want him if he’s deemed capable of starting regularly next season. If not, I’d consider it a bit of a non-success with United expected to seriously contend / not really having that time to develop him as he’d be more more of a long term project which doesn’t fit what will be expected of United next campaign.

You clearly don't but appear to provide an 'informed,' opinion as to why we shouldn't. Perhaps doing your research first before questioning his ability.:smirk:

Fair play haha :nervous::p

Eh? Shaw was the best defender in the league when we signed him, and even now his talent isn't really debatable, only his injury.

He wouldn't be signed because he is English, but being English is an undeniably positive aspect when looking at potential players. There's a lot more to a signing than purely footballing ability. Language barriers, culture shock and having exposure to the type of football played in this country all count greatly.

Why was Alli only 5 million?

So yea a bit of both. Seems he’s of quality and the English flag has a bit to do with it as well as you say. Appreciate the response.

I'd rather sign this guy than Perisic. More like a United signing. Go for it Jose.

We could bring him in and keep him around the team, doing just that. I rarely believe these buy and loan rumours. They don't make much sense for us.

Then again I don't think we'll be buying anyone this January, so I'm viewing it from a summer 2018 point of view.

Not sure that role really suits a young player like that, especially an expensive one that people will have expectations of. The loan would seem better for his needs, but we're not coasting through the season to the point where we can spend a bunch of money and not see any return on it this season.

A more realistic fee and it wouldnt be a big deal if he's on loan or filling in for our first teamers on occasion.

Yeah I'd be happy with this - if we're actually going to use him. Buying him for him to be forever on loan and in the reserves would be so sad though.

Come on Ekeke, you are having an absolute nightmare in here. Who are you going to buy for £25m that improves the team? You are five years in the past.

Coman
Nelson Semedo - 27 million
Skriniar
Pickford
Cuadrado
Zaza
Conti

A few quick examples of players who were signed this summer for around £25 million and have had a good half season so far for their new teams.

25m is the new 10m in terms of youth fees it seems (with English players). Don't know enough about him, only ever seen him play once, but must be highly rated to be courting this much attention.

This kid is going to be a star. As a Spurs fan I have my fingers crossed we are in for him.

I'd rather sign Sess over any of those players. The Coman deal was signed in 2015, the market was vastly different back then.

Below list are teenagers in Championship and Premierleague with 500+mins this Season. I've then checked out their total stats in senior football to come up with their total playing experience.

Stats come from Transfermarkt.co.uk

19 years old
18 years old
17 years old

Ryan Sessegnon / Fulham / 4258mins / 14 goals, 8 assists
Ronaldo Vieira / Leeds / 3778mins / 2 goals, 3 assists
Tom Davies / Everton / 3350mins / 2 goals, 5 assists
Ben Brereton / Nottingham Forest / 2093mins / 5 goals, 5 assists
Trent Alexander-Arnold / Liverpool / 1755mins / 3 goals, 2 assists
Keinan Davis / Aston Villa / 1455mins / 2 goals, 3 assists
Joshua Earl / Preston / 1035mins / 0 goals, 0 assists

Rúben Vinagre / Wolverhampton Wanderers / 927mins / 1 goal, 1 assist
Ike Ugbo / Barnsley / 745mins / 1 goal, 1 assist

That might put his price tag into perspective. Also, how woeful is it that in are two top leagues only 9 teenagers qualify for this list?

Ryan Sessegnon / Goal/Assist every 193.5mins
Ben Brereton / Goal/Assist every 209.3mins
Keinan Davis / Goal/Assist every 291.0mins
Trent Alexander-Arnold / Goal/Assist every 351.0mins
Ike Ugbo / Goal/Assist every 454.0mins

Rúben Vinagre / Goal/Assist every 463.5mins
Tom Davies / Goal/Assist every 478.6mins
Ronaldo Vieira / Goal/Assist every 755.6mins
Joshua Earl / N/A - no Goals/Assists

Jesus that's really impressive. 14 goals and 8 assists at 17 in any division above conference would hint at a lot of quality. In first division these days that's insane. In 40+ games? I'm convinced, sign him up.

Should he be loaned back though? He's hardly going to come in and take Rashford/Martial spot, or even the likes of Gomes who are the same age.

Can't we just copy paste the bid we made for Shaw? Is it necessary to do the bid in hyroglifics on stone form every time.

Also added in Goals/Assists table underneath which shows how truly impressive he is. 17 years old and he tops the table for goal/assist despite playing the most football and being 17 years old.

From your stats and from watching the video put on this thread earlier it would seem a no brainer to buy Ryan Sessegnon. He seems to have good balance a quick brain and 14 goals and 8 assists already in this seasons is incredible. What's not to like at this stage.

It's even more impressive when you consider he plays most games at left back in a defensive side.

I think he should be loaned back and loaned next season to a lower PL club. The reported deal includes him going back to Fulham this for this season.

He's an obvious talent and someone all the top clubs should be trying to sign. Can't miss out on talents like him imo.

Surely this will be a case of buying him and loaning him out straight away? Probably back to Fulham.

Shaw's doing well, he's played well enough to be given one last chance.

We should be all over it, club target hopefully. Can someone write Ed to stop dicking around and get this guy in. Fergie would be all over it, English talent right there.

I hate to see these 50 Millions paid for Full backs. Surely our scouts can find players who come much cheaper than this. We have 50 scouts ffs.

He looks a talent, my only objection is how it affects our budget, as he doesn’t improve our team immediately. In addition, our ‘first choice’ left back is only 22 himself.

Still, he has an amazing profile, I would buy him and loan him to Spurs

Give me all the matches where he looked like a £25 million player

Does the word potential not mean anything to you? Do you not understand how transfers work?

Top 3/4 player in an age group that just won the World Cup
TOTS in the Championship aged 16
7 goals & 4 assists this season, still only 17, mostly playing LB, where he's playing 90 minutes week-in, week-out in what isn't an easy league

It's evident he's got huge potential. There's been several games where he's destroyed teams, including Newcastle away last season where he scored twice. This would be the same Newcastle who with largely the same squad are 13th at the moment in the PL, and he was still 16 at the time and playing at LB...

Whether you want to a perceived gamble on a young talent who probably isn't totally ready to start regularly at LB for United yet (I believe he'll move further forward in time like Bale did anyway) or not, you'd have to be blind to not recognise his obvious talent and potential.

Of course, this is all a moot point as you went on Whoscored, proceeded to list off a reel of stats (all of which are hugely impressive for a 17 year old anyway) and write him off without even bothering to watch him play. Classic armchair scout.

Would like United to sign him, but he's not a Jose Mourinho signing unfortunately, more of a Sir Alex Ferguson signing.

Jose was moaning about transfer funds recently, so he's not going to spunk £25m-£35m of what ever money he gets on a 17 year old kid who 'may' come good in 3 years, Jose wants players for the now.

Sessegnon seems to be doing well, but every time I've seen Shaw play live I've been nothing but impressed. We gave him a standing ovation at OT against Bournemouth because he was that good. Get him playing regularly, get his confidence back, and we won't have to worry about the left back position for years to come.

A few quick examples of players who were signed this summer for around £25 million and have had a good half season so far for their new teams.

This shows how little you actually know about football seeing as 2 of those deals were done in 2015. Half of them you are comparing to players nobody wanted (Cuadrado, Zaza) and/or players who are 6-10 years older than Sessegnon...

Get him now, the price will be higher in the summer.......
We'll really regret it if we miss out on him.
£25m is not a huge amount of money by today's standards. Can offload Darmian, Mhiki to offset the cost. Oh and get Mahrez too whilst you are at it Woody........

I'd rather sign Sess over any of those players. The Coman deal was signed in 2015, the market was vastly different back then.

And we could set up a deal that we'll pay the bulk of in a year or two, when presumably Championship players are now costing £50 million. Most of those players would contribute more to us challenging for the title this year

They werent paid till this summer. Thats £25 million or so spent this season. So yes it does buy you players who can help your squad challenge for a title

Are we soon done preparing bid ?

Give it another 3 years until Woodward completes his first draft for the bid. By that time he'll need to prepare a new one because Sessegnon probably will be playing for Spurs/City with bids coming in from Madrid.

That´s an example where it is useful to have a DoF or/and a strong board that makes long-term strategic decisions, cause somebody like Sessegnon is not necessarily a purchase that will improve the team immediately and therefore not exactly a priority for the active coach, who probably prefer an investment with more immediate returns.

How long does it take to prepare a fecking bid?

The same question every transfer window.

Yes it does seem tedious but only because we want to believe what the papers say. In reality, our scouts probably haven't got a clue who Sessegnon is :(
