Ryan Sessegnon

Funny that when were were linked with this kid most people said he was shite.

He's also half the player

"Half the player" who has scored an infinitely greater number of club goals (22 vs 0) and notched up many more club appearances (106 vs 42) despite being two and a half years younger.

I think he will end up as an attacking wing back personally.

Problem with that is if that's to be his position (and he's to live up to the hype) then he needs to play for a side that plays 5 at the back and not many do. Will Spurs in the future? I feel Spurs have to start developing him as an out and out wide attacker, maybe even out on the right cutting in on his left foot

The beauty is that he is able to play in either position so we can fit him in where we need him. Longer term though I think he is a wing back - not necessarily this season though (however if Rose is leaving perhaps he will be)

Wouldn't be a surprise if he came good under potchettino.

Given your response to actual facts, I see that Donald Trump is not the only one to believe that the facts somehow become "fake news" if only you use the right icon.

No I just dont have the energy right now to dissect everything wrong with your post

Slow your roll there. His stats were great playing on the wing in the Championship but by any measure he was shite in his one PL season and it was not just playing on a relegated team, he was poor even compared to his team mates. He may well take a leap forward at Spurs but it is just as possible that he is a Championship level player who will always struggle with the step up. Potential is not always fulfilled.

Lingard once scored 4 goals in 1 game in the championship, a goal record there doesn't mean much at all.

The same applies to Wan-Bissaka does it not?

In a sense.

But AWB is the more developed of the two. He was arguably the best RB in the league last season, at the tender age of 21 no less. Sessegnon is relatively unproven coming from the Championship.

To be fair you would expect him to be more developed as he is 2 years older. It will be really interesting to see how Sessegnon develops, no guarantees with young players but he definately has a great chance to make it to the top I think.

I agree Wan Bissaka seems incredibly mature for his age but he has only played 40 odd professional games. We have seen a lot of young players unable to handle the pressure of playing for United. I really hope he does do well but nothing is certain. I remember many United fans still doubting Kane after 2 fantastic seasons for us, it has to work both ways.

Not really. We are talking about proving it in the PL. AWB has comfortably proven he is a top class PL player whilst Sessegnon failed given the same opportunity. Again, I am not saying he won't be a success but there is reason to doubt at this point but as previously stated, if he is going to make it then Poch is definitely the coach to get him there.

At worst, it seems like Wan Bissaka will be an excellent defensive fullback whose offensive contribution is relatively limited. That's basically what he is already and the skills that make him stand out - elite quickness and ability in one on one situations - probably aren't going away unless he gets crushed by injuries. He has a pretty high floor because he's already established as a fullback.

Sessegnon seems like much more of a gamble because its not clear whether he is a fullback at all. He has played most of his career at other positions and seems to prefer playing higher up the pitch. If he can take his attacking skills and successfully make the conversion to a full time LB, he could be a great player in that role. But there's no guarantee that it works and I certainly wouldn't want to rely on him as an LB this year.

We don’t have to, we have Rose and Davies.

Sessegnon could go either way for me. I was pretty disappointed with him last season although in his Fulham defence were garbage.

Poch should help improve him but he's hardly a shoe in for me. He's certainly not PL proven like Wan Bissaka.

Are Spurs really going to be starting two kids as full backs? Brave stuff!

I was having this discussion with my mate in the gym. They haven't replaced Trippier or Walker and are going into the season with Davies, Rose (who is out of favour), Walker-Peters and now Sessegnon.

I'm not overly convinced that's enough for a CL and PL assault in terms of quality.

Edit Aurier too.

By all accounts Trippier had a stinker last season, so he’s the only difference on last term. Have to put your faith in youth at some point, United certainly are this term, and I think so it’s a good thing.

Do you not feel you're a bit light at full back?

I am still amazed he went abroad. Its great to see more PL British players willing to do so.

I love seeing English players going abroad and I think he will do well, he’s a good footballer, just a questionable defender against pace.

We have Aurier and Foyth (plays RB for Argentina) also - still perhaps a bit light but not as light as you have said.

I'm not convinced on Aurier although not seen much of Foyth at full back.

Just seems such a key position you've been very strong in for so long weakened. That said good full backs are hard to get especially at a good price. (Wan Bissaka expensive, Cancelo 60m and Tierney 25m but a possible injury gamble)

He was hyped last season after doing well in the championship but failed to deliver in the prem.

He’s got potential and for £25m will probably be a decent signing but it could go either way.

Pochettino is the fullback whisperer, so if Sessegnon is going to transition to a top class LB you'd think there's not a better situation.

He's a winger, he was more vulnerable defensively than Fosu-Mensah was on the other side for Fulham. A slight gust of wind knocks him over
