Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney | Wrexham AFC Watch

On the flip side there were at least 6 offsides called that weren’t. Agree County the far better footballing team though - Wrexham just lump it in the vicinity of Mullen who is immense at that level and let him do something. Both sides really poor defensively which makes football far more exciting!
Completely agree about the offside calls. Nice to see Notts County play the high line though and attempt to be progressive, although ultimately naive. Yeah it was a proper football match - imperfect, yet thrilling!

I like that Notts just stuck to their guns, I love a stubborn team like that, pure belief in their setup and if it wasn't for a Hollywood team, then yeah, it'd work, and hopefully it still does. Wrexham are just fundamentally better for what they need to do to win at this level, their errors will cost them less than a Notts County error would - as it showed today.

Think both would be really good in League 2 straight away, but Notts will struggle far more to keep their better players than Wrexham, hell they'd struggle to keep them if Wrexham directly came calling for them. Wrexham certainly has allure for players, and that's only gonna grow.

I enjoyed that game more than I thought I would fair play, almost as much as Wrexham’s 2 legs with Sheffield United.

Both worthy of promotion, Notts County played very good football for large portions of that game.

I think there should be a rule where if team scores 100 points, it should automatically guarantee promotion to next division. Imagine scoring 100 points and then failing to get promotion.

100 points over a 46 game season is actually not as fancy as it sounds.

A similar point average would give you 82 points in a 38 game season. Most years that's enough for a top-2 position but being third with +80 points is definitely not unprecedented.

He just seems really likeable

Yeah I generally don't care for celebs and anything to do with them but the bits I have seen of him outside of his movies he seems like a genuinely likeable guy

The sad thing is VAR probably pulls that back for encroachment. There was a few wrong offside calls but the game flowed a lot better without it.

Was thinking that watching the game. It was miles better to watch without VAR bullshit constantly interrupting. A proper, old school frantic, non-stop game of football. A few tight offsides called wrong were no big deal and Wrexham fans got to go fecking nuts every time they scored without having to sit on their hands until after some twat in a trailer van has drawn lines on a TV screen. So fecking infuriating that we’ve kissed all of that goodbye and are stuck in dystopian VAR hell forever.

Agreed. Also, there was practically zero timewasting, or embellishment. There was some pretty meaty challenges, and nobody rolled around screaming. Wrexham, perhaps naively, carried on playing as normal at 3-2 up, instead of sapping the clock and killing momentum. It felt like the game flew by, it was a slugfest.

Admittedly I don't watch much football that doesn't involve United these days, but it was the first non-United game I've properly enjoyed for ages.

Spot on. Bit of a throwback really, proper good game of football

Celebrated the Wrexham goals, and the Foster save as if I was lifelong Wrexham fan bizarrely. I have a strong dislike for Cardiff City, but have always had a soft spot for Swansea and win particular Wrexham after spending some time as a student up there.

Thrilled for them and exciting to see how far they can go.
Love the energy both owners bring.

Is there any other sport/competition in the world where a 5th-tier league game creates so much drama and attention? There's even a couple of ex top flight teams in there, ffs.

That's why English football will always be the best.

As a canadian, living in canada, I am equally perplexed by this comment. There is some bizarre myth that canadians are all nice, but it's just simply not true.
Of course it can't be true, but they can't be worse than Americans, surely?

I don't really know what "nice" means in this context, but all stereotypes aside, Canadians tend to be friendly, and as a Canadian, whenever I've visited the United states, they've always been welcoming and generous (with Customs and Border agents a massive exception). But I suspect the perception of our two countries is based on things like foreign policy and wider cultural differences, and who dislikes Canada on that score? I mean, we've given the world some great music and great actors, writers, and comedians and we must have the most inoffensively nonwarlike yet iconic flag in the world.

i don’t think everyone thinks they are ALL nice. Just people not from Ontario or Quebec.

Someone needs to post this in the halls of the FA so they can realize what they’ve done to our game!
Well said!

And there I was thinking you were a nice person... But I'll have you know that Reynolds spent part of his childhood in Vanier in Ottawa. Ha!
