Ruud van Nistelrooy | Leicester Manager

Echoes of Ole when he took the Cardiff job.
I'd argue that team had some better players...

Just had a look at their squad in depth on Fpl and feck me yea it’s very very bad. The absolute fecking state of those cb and cm options, my word. And how are they still playing 38 year old Vardy every game. Mad how a club who recruited so well for years are getting it so badly wrong. Why did they buy Oliver Skipp also? Was that a dare or something?

I get Ruud taking the job. But yeah you’d hope his reputation doesn’t take too much damage.
It's barely a Championship team imo. If they came up, how fecking bad are other Championship teams?

It's obvious he acted very impulsively on taking the job on. Came on the back of a couple of wins for utd, thought he'd earned himself assistent manager post, but was shown the door. Very naive of him to take the job on. He could have waited for the right opportunity. Leicester with that squad of players he inherited could only have gone one way. He wont last much longer there unfortunately and now he's fecked his CV looking at further management.

Literally no talk of him being sacked, fans anger is directed above his head squarely at the DoF.

We are playing much better now than under Cooper. We just need to take our chances, had 2 or 3 good ones at 0-0, take one of those it's a different game.

I'm pretty sure he knew he was leaving United when Amorin was given the job

What is the right opportunity, he was never going to get a job at a level above the likes of Leicester in England, if Leicester are that bad then it won't affect his CV because it would be considered an impossible job

Nice to see Ruud use the four games he managed us to leverage into another payday at Leicester. His tax bill for 24-25 & 25-26 is going to be huge.

What happened Daka? For a while he looked like he might develop into a good striker.now ?

Im really suprised to see people having a pop at Ruud over his management of Leicester already, he has inherited a terrible squad and hasnt been allowed to spend any money so what is he supposed to there?

I don’t think anyone is having a pop at him, just saying he was naive to take such a difficult job.

People going OTT here I think, almost like they want him to fail, weirdly.

Hasn’t been a great start, but it was always going to be tough, and while I am very happy with Ruben, our results in the same period are only just better and we have a far superior squad.

A miracle worker wouldn’t change this Leicester team overnight. The performances and structure have seemed to improve, they just aren’t clinical enough, relying on a 38 year old to score their goals, with a very error prone defence.

The influence of the manager is always overstated.

I would tend to always lean towards letting the manager/coach do his job and look at improving the squad before laying all the blame at the manager who has just joined the club.

No one expects Leicester to stay up and they won't be sacking him. This season is a learning curve for him, go back down and then build from what he learnt.

Wasn't the consensus that this team was far too good for the Championship and that Maresca almost made a pigs ear of it?

If that's the case, then that says more about the level Championship is at.

Ipswich could win tonight and go 4 points behind 15th, but I think it's telling that aside from the crap that us and Wolves have served up this season, there is a gap between the bottom 3 and the rest of the league. Last season the 3 that came up went down again.

The gap between the PL and Champ is widening.

Just like Ole’s Cardiff job, this stint will unfairly tarnish Ruud’s reputation. In hindsight, he should have waited for a better job to become available.

How is this comparable? Ole got to spend a lot with Cardiff.

Ole didnt get to spend a lot, he inherited an awful squad from Malky Mackay when he took over in early January and was only given 7m to spend before the end of that window

No he didn't
Yeah it wasn't mega amounts actually. But I think he did get make 7 signings. RvN hasnt been able to do anything like this

He certainly could and probably should have waited for an easier job but that is offset by the potential that Leicester have. It is a great stadium with top class facilities and if he can beat the drop this season he does have the infrastructure to kick on and build something which is not always the case with these mid season job openings. I know the transfer kitty is pretty minimal but if he can find someone who can add a few goals and get a some legs in midfield to cover for that awful backline he could see them safe and I think if he does then everyone will agree that just surviving is a very good effort for this season.

I wonder if he’s enquired about any of our players. Collyer was one I thought be might be interested in earlier this window (though he may now be back in the frame here) and maybe even Heaton as an experienced head in goal.

They do have two PL loans currently so could only go for a permanent transfer. I have heard that they may cancel the loan for Edouard who could be off on a permanent deal from Palace which would free up room. He did talk about leveraging his contacts in the window but we don't have a surplus of good first team players who could help him and our youngsters are not ready for a PL relegation scrap. Maybe someone like Lindelof if he is fit, I know he gets a hard time in here but he is like prime RIo compared to Vestergaard.

we signed a new full back yesterday which should see James Justin dropped, its a shame Ndidi pull his hamstring in our last win, he and Soumare were starting to form a pretty solid pairing in front of the back 4

Yes, he spent some money, but most of them were loans or panic buys because the owner placed unrealistic demands on the manager.

The comparable in both situations is walking into a relegation threatened job when the season was underway, with a poor squad, and with owners / management with no clue how to run a football club.

What's gone so wrong for you? You were champions, and have since steadily slid down to the point you don't even look like a PL club anymore?

How has it collapsed like this?

In some ways you're describing United there!

Unrealistic demands like not getting relegated?

I’m calling it now, as caretaker he beat Leicester twice in 4 games. His last match will be a second loss to United in 6 games on the 15th March. Football is weird like that.

The "Spiderman pointing at Spiderman" meme comes to mind here

Considering it was their only season in the premier league and they’ve not threatened promotion since, I’d say that probably was unrealistic yeah.

But he was sacked for being 17th in the championship. They kept him on post relegation.

an incompetent DoF handing out stupid contracts and high fees on too many failed deals which got us into PSR trouble and lead to relegation due to not being able to offload players and buy replacements, there are some noises that the owners are finally thinking of making senior management changes but who knows, as things stand RVN is pretty popular amongst fans and I think most would be happy to keep him even if relegated.

If he starts to blood youngsters like Braybrooke, Alves, Monga or Jake Evans then he'll be even more popular given so many experienced players in their positions are doing nothing for us, Ben Nelson too at CB though he's currently injured and still technically on loan to Oxford
