Ruud van Nistelrooy | Leaves United

It has probably been mentioned, but i cannot see any sense in getting rid of Ruud immediately. He is a wealth of knowledge about United history, tradition, and most importantly this particular team, who will fight for the badge and can be relied on, who stays fit and trains well, all that. He has all the inside info. He will be crucial to a new manager from another country like Amorim. I'd be making him my bestie and inviting him over for a roast or whatever you english eat at home. he should at least stay for the remainder of the season.

I mean he just said in the press conference that he was thinking about the main job when he came back...

Amorim can't keep him for obvious reason.

He also has all the negative biases that most likely he picked up from ETH . Pretty obvious from his subs, and playing Zirkzee only as a 9.

Ultimately, he's an interim coach and knew he'd only have a handful of games at most. It's not part of the job description to try and impart an entirely new style of play on the team or shake things up too much. There's no sense in him trying to drill Ruudball into the players when he's going to be gone (or at least demoted) next week. His job was to steady the ship and grind out some results until the new guy arrives, and he's achieved that goal. Sure, it's not been much prettier than under Ten Hag, but the results have been better. He even managed to win a European match, which was a foreign concept to Ten Hag. A win on Sunday and I'd say it's been a wholly successful caretaker spell.

Nope.

Thanks for stepping in, cya later.

We have to become way more ruthless as a club.

Up to Amorim, do they get on, can he make use of him, does Ruud want to be that guy, simple as that, either it works or does not.... as for Scholesy going on about Ruud not being content to be an assistant, he came in and signed on as an assistant to ETH for like 3 years so all of a sudden he cannot stand being an assistant... whatever

I agree. Especially about there not being much change in the style of play. Even if he tried it would take much longer than 3 matches, something I hope fans understand with Amorim. But my point is mostly about his subs and selections, baring Ugarte, he seems to make pretty much the same decisions as ETH. Appears like ETH blind spot / favouritism also applies to him.

Uuh no. Experience, knowledge and tradition don’t mean anything. We’ve had iterations of that for a decade. It is not going to work. We need a clean break from “tradition” and embrace the new. ETH was supposed to be that but he tried to embrace “tradition” by playing the “United Way” and not employ his Ajax school of play.

No. None of these will work. We need Amorim to transform us and bring about a new “United Way”. We need the players to stop thinking of or be reminded of how it used to be with Sir Alex. It has proven to be something that is inimitable. Sir Alex created a culture that was ruthless and unforgivingly results oriented. The moment we instil that in our players, we can then start thinking of traditions.

I’m sick of past players trying to revive something that can never be resurrected. We need Amorim to make an evolved version of that past. Not replicate it. Something Ruud is desperate to do. So no.

RVN staying around will be somewhat undermining for Amorim, whether it’d be there’s still some loyalty to the previous regime with certain players or Amorim feels that the board don’t have confidence in him if the club are keeping RVN around.

Amorim should have his own people in, and if he wants to appoint someone who just happens to be a playing alumni with United then it’s a bonus.

One thing I absolutely hope is going to happen is that Amorim and the newly created football board are on the same page. I don’t want to see players we all know suck don’t get yet another chance to prove themselves under a new manager which happened A LOT under the Glazers which is why Phil Jones was here for 12 fecking years. That type of thing happily seems to be ending if that story about Berrada’s approach is true, where it’s two years or you’re out.

Okay. Just because EtH/RVN make decisions you don't like, that doesn't actually mean they can only be down to bias. Hate to break it to you, but there it is.

I think he will be leaving. You can't keep someone who's eyeing for your job. Simple as that.

Also by saying he's happy to stay in any capacity, means he will get full payout of his current contract when its terminated too.

It's worrying how many people are letting nostalgia blind them. Sure he was an amazing player for us and genuinely seems to love the club but keeping him around because he's a 'nice guy'? Decisions like this are one of the contributing factors to why standards at the club are at an all time low.

Lot of nonsense being spoken in here. Why does Ruud have to leave now?

Why would he hinder Ruben? He says, and I believe, he's here to help. He didn't hinder ETH as far as I can tell. He's loved by the players, I'm not sure sacking him gets the players onside.

Imo it's better to have some level of smooth transition and Ruud would be the guy to help facilitate that. He stay for the session and helps Ruben settle in like he says....

They can communicate between themselves and make a decision on the future at the end of the season. If Ruben is uncomfortable working alongside a character like Ruud then I don't know if it's going to work out for him tbh, and it just reminds me of people like Moyes coming in and clearing out the back room staff (something I called out at the time, to much pushback in here) and ETH fecking off Ralf.... Which (I was ok with at the time because I felt he was shit and slightly toxic but) many in here did not like it.

Just feels like people always want someone out, or to get sold out benched... Just negative

Why have evolution when you can have revolution eh?

Hate to break it to you. Every manager has their bias. We just have to hope Amorim develops a bias that is suitable to the present squad not who was good 2-3 years ago.

I think keeping him until the end of the season is a good idea, but yeah I agree if he openly wants to manage the club in the future and he's a club legend you'd probably want to part ways after then.

I'd be surprised if he stays beyond the season. Amorim may well want to have transitional arrangements in place with some of the backroom staff until the end of the campaign. But beyond that it's a bit like moving into a new home and deciding that the existing decor of the previous owner suits your own perfectly and you don't need to make any changes to the interior design of any of the rooms. It's not beyond the realms of possibility but seems unlikely.

If Ten Hag was competent as his job and van Nistelrooy was currently on the coaching staff of a team that was meeting performance expectations, would Amorim have him high on his list of people he wanted to add to his staff? If not then why would he want him on his staff here for no other reason other than 'used to play for us' and could probably give verbal directions to the training ground on the first day in case the manager's sat-nav packs up?

He's only been back at the club for five minutes anyway, it's not as if there's anyone in the current team who has a long-standing connection with him to make him some kind of vital bridge between the players and the new regime. That part is massively overplayed.

It's shit to listen to as a fan, but I think you just have to see the manager's dealings with the press as an obligation where he's just going to say what he thinks he needs to in order to keep the players onside, because 90% of what's said will probably just be that, even if it's clearly complete bollocks. It was nice to hear Ralf being honest in the press, but he lost buy-in from the players probably before he'd even managed a game.

Man management is one of the few things Ten Hag actually did same now and there's no "handbrake off" or "prove the last manager wrong" type bounce under Ruud like there was under Ole when Mourinho went. The coaching, tactics, in-game management etc were obviously a different matter and hopefully we get something worlds away under Amorim whether he talks bollocks in the post-match pressers or not.

Man management to me isn’t that just not losing the dressing room. It’s actively getting players to perform

Man management to me isn’t just not losing the dressing room. It means getting the best out of players and getting them to perform to their potential consistently. On that basis Ten Hag was an abject failure.

Well he brought Amad back and spoke about how sharp he’s been. ETH wouldn’t have done that.

Ruud's ambitions are clear. He should have been silent and discussed his future internally.
The man has been getting plaudits from the media, and has been receiving praise from the players and went around receiving applause from the fans after match.
Amorim might think that RvN's dismissal might upset the players and the fans alike. I think most of the fans will understand why a fresh start is needed, even if media spins it negatively.
As for the players, they should cram it and step in line. They don't deserve to have superiors they are buddies with.

Amorim should be his own man and say no to Rood. Ruud has been working with TH and you can see there isn’t any real improvement style wise and I got Ole vibes he was nice to the players, as in they would walk all over him. They need a coach who will improve them, or feck them off, if they cannot, or will not put the effort in, not a best mate.
I loved Ruud as a player, but Ruben needs to be loyal to his system and believe in his way with his coaches.

Yeah. He probably doesn’t fancy in a second hand role. But if he said that, it’s weakening his hand on the payout bargaining.

Well his interim role ends tomorrow. If we can beat Leicester that'll be really good way to end his short tenure. Don't think Ruud will stay for longer than another few days but let's see.

If he wants to be a manager he needs to get a move on. 48 and only one year as a manager. Not exactly the traditional path.

Perfect management performance.

Right team. Right shape. Right tactics.no square pegs. Full backs as full backs. Midfielders as midfielders. No massive canyons between the lines.

Right subs are the right times for underperforming players.

I’m excited about Ruben coming in, but something to be learned from Ruud, just making simple, obvious decisions.

I’m going in glass half full, but I just pray to god we don’t have to endure another year of trying implement a new, technical style of play that our players our incapable of when this squad has always looked it’s best just playing a traditional 4231.

Club legend. Has left the door open for himself in the future, he should go off and develop more.

Thank him for what he’s done but I wouldn’t be keeping him on.

He has ambitions to manage this club, we can’t have him stepping back into the assistant under a manager potentially undermining the new regime.

Thanks for settling things, hope he goes off and has a great managerial career.

Thanks for everything Ruud. Please hang around.

And feck off ETH for ruining so many weekends for me.

Best ínterim job one could ask. The results were better than the performances, but give me these victories any day.
