Didnt he say it was due to lack of support within the club? I don't think it's due to him thinking he's not good enough to be a head coach. I'm sure he backs himself.

And him staying as assistant might have something to do with gaining experience. We have seen lot of former players work as assistants before becoming head coaches themselves.

I think you are right that he probably backs himself. But support (politics) is part of the job as head coach.

I don't want to speculate on what happened behind the scenes as we don't know anything about it other than a simple statement. As I said before, depends on his ambitions I guess and what he wants to do next.
 
Would absolutely love if this was to happen, but I'm not sure I can see RvN leave a manager position for a normal coaching job - even if it is at United.
 
Despite all the negativity at the club, for assistants it's been a good place, even Carrick and McKenna have been sought after, Jose's assistant and all of Fergie's assistants. Could be good for his career for 1-3 seasons but also at the same time you'd think he can get a main manager role somewhere decent fairly easily.

He is jobless at the moment so he is not leaving anything. Maybe he fancies an assistant job at a big club while he is in transition. Doesn't look clubs are lining up to hire him as a manager.
 
If I was him I'd consider it, only to become aware of how it is in these big clubs behind the scenes. He's got a good reputation right now, but the chance to see what it takes to manage a big club would be good for his career.

EtH learned how Bayern worked so it could help him learn how to deal with the politics and bs that happens in these clubs. I think that's one thing young managers take time to learn is, now that I'm in this legendary club as a manager how do I navigate all the pitfalls that come with it.

Undoubtedly would be joining with guarantees that he’s next in line for the United job.

Would actually be pretty good, have the next manager already at the club.

Would be a good addition and could even see him replacing Ten Hag at some point. He'll probably take the Burnley job though.

Started as a coach, then managed Middlesbrough, England, twente in Holland before coaching again

Tipped him to be an interim last season if ETH got fired. Would be great for us but I think he should be looking at a managers position

Looks like he had many years as a manager before deciding to step back into a role with lesser responsibilities. I don't think it's anyway similar to RVN who just started out his managerial career.

I don’t think anyone can say either way. It’s up to him if he takes a role. If do it will probably be either a specialist attacking coach or maybe take over from MVDG, whom there have been rumours about

True, it depends on his ambitions but I don't see him taking it up when he has a chance to be a head coach somewhere else.
 
Why would he potentially turn down the managers job at Burnley just to be part of the coaching team at United?

I highly doubt the club would offer any such guarantees.

Well it would be a personal decision for him. There’s no point in us saying he will or he won’t. I’m sure that he’s been sounded out to the idea first
 
Not a good idea, as a Head Coach, you would want to have your own people next to you, so unless Ten Hag himself wants him, then it's an unnecessary hire, they just confirmed to Ten Hag he will stay on and offer him a new contract, so hopefully they don't undermine him by forcing RvN on him.
 
Hope he decides to join. Would love to see him walking out at OT next season.

I’d imagine ETH wants him aswell. The club probably mentioned him and ETH agreed to it. If there getting rid of Benni Mccarthy then we need a new ST coach.
