Your whole post rings familiar to me, including this bit - which makes it sound like he would be a good fit for either McClaren or McCarthy's role at United.
 
The rumoured reports were EtH lacked a softer touch. Also as a pair EtH and VdG were more Bad Cop Bad Cop.

I’m not sure adding Hake and Ruud is going to make them any more of a softer coaching team haha.

Any players who hated the regime last season should be getting their agents working overtime.m this summer.

One of my greatest memories was when I showed my daughter clips of Ruud and how early he used to strike the ball so the keeper didn't get to set themselves. She took it in and scored the same way in the next match she played. Across the goalie, quickly – goal. Will never forget that :D
 
Strengthens the case Branthwaite will become a United player having played for Ruud

They have together (sssh) identified the need for someone who a) can understand the head coach and follow his lead when it comes to tasks and instructions, and is good at gaining trust with players, help them build their own carreers and capabilities based on Ten Hag’s ideas of what the team needs, being a mentir and specialist trainer rather than a head coach or evwn a tactical coach. Someone who can help getting players like Rashford up to their best and maybe prohibit new ‘Sancho-cases’ from developing? They have done their due diligence on Ruud and talked to their connections in Dutch football as well, and know that this is exactly what Ruud is good at. He is self aware and intwlligent, and knows this too, hence being more interested in a specialized role at a big club doing what he can, rather than a manager role lower in the system, doing what he’s not good at.

Other hypotheses, or do these cover it?

To many cooks can spoil the broth but I’m generally a fan of having as many different opinions and cultures within an organisation if you can. Especially when they come with experience at the top level and an attachment to the team. Hopefully if he does possess the traits that have been stated hopefully he can have the same influence here. Winning mentality.

Could definitely be a bit of a mentor to Zirkzee IF he signs of course. Yes I know he is a very different forward to Ruud but can still offer advice

Such a weird running style but knew how to put the ball in the back of the net.

Praying to whoever is listening that Rashford can go up a level with this guy in the coaching staff.

If he can improve Rasmus and Rashford then he will be earning his money.
It is not that long ago that Carrick was on our coaching staff and we would have thought he would improve our midfielders on the defensive side.

I looked up this interview after you posted this. Halfway through and I’m really impressed with how measured and intelligent a speaker he is.



I’m looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the coaching team.
 
Absolutely loved him as kid growing up.
If I remember rightly, we signed him the same year we got the reversible top. I remember walking to the shop with my mum absolutely couldn't wait to get Rio on one side and Ruud on the other.
Apparently you could only get the name printed on the white side so went with Rio.

Ruud is probably one of the best finishers I've seen.
As a kid, I used to have SSN on round the clock, funny when I look back, but I remember the images of him on the training ground in agony when he got his injury before the initial move
 
Aside from everything else… the fella is ageing like wine. Sartorial fcuker and is more handsome today than he was at 25.

We should all be so lucky.

First season I started supporting United was that season and my first jersey was the reservable kit. Remember Ruud scoring twice in a fa cup tie comeback win against Villa wearing it. He was my favourite player from then, although I had Keane 16 on the back.

Rio signed the summer after and he never would have played in that top

You know, you're right, and it came back to me instantly. It was actually Ruud I got on my top, it was him and Veron I was going to get, but as I had to choose, thankfully, I chose correctly
