Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

Russia see themselves as the grandaddy and protector of all Slavs and that extends all the way to Serbia, whom they seem to have a special affection for. Quite possibly due to historic rivalries between their imperial leaders way back in the day.
Not all Slavs to be fair. They have bad relations with all other Slavic counties in Balkan (Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, N. Macedonia, Bosnia without Srbska Republica).

But most definitely because they own half of the Serbia, including one of biggest oil rafineries here, Serbia being one of their biggest buyers of gas in this area, etc.

If you're wondering why Putin is cracking down on independent media and social media companies, it's because they were getting far more engagement than state media despite state media having far more reach.

I'll acknowledge that my perspective is based on my study of Soviet history and that some variance might have occured since those days.

Ooh look at Amar providing the crucial details!

I am pretty sure there are many Croatian politicians here with good Russian connections. There were few stories about Bosnian and Croatian HDZ leaders getting lot of their dirty money from Russia.

I know Russian propaganda have got their hooks in a decent amount of Russians but i'm curious, does anyone know someone that isn't Russian who's actually supporting Putin and think they're doing nothing wrong?

You've done some serious damage to your credibility on this forum. And i know you're staff. But you just keep fecking poking. Like a teenage girl with a acne problem. Sorry. Not sorry.

I think he's laughing at my gentle ribbing of my friend Amar.

Apologies. I'll explain.

Weapons amu factory goes off. Raul states a thermo bomb had gone off. But posts video that had been recorded several days previously. Look at the panic. In those posts afterwards..

It seems that the Russians have severe maintenance problems. I hope that we are able to supply a lot of Javelins to Ukraine so that they eliminate the mechanized Russian forces. Also antiaircraft missiles, I think Germany supplied a lot of those.

The unusual thing in this war is that Ukrainians can have unlimited supply!

Well, they do have a long history of military incompetence.

And it goes way back to the Napeoleonic Wars at least. WW2 is probably the most noticeable exception to the rule with certain highly competent generals like Zhukov, but there were so many incompetents at the helm too as to explain why the Nazis went this deep in the Soviet Union between 1941 and 1943.

Even with state control of all TV, press and radio, you have wonder at how many ordinary Russians truly believe what they're being told when:

* Laws are being passed with severe penalties for criticising Russia's military "involvement" in Ukraine.
* Access to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and more has been blocked.

After all, wouldn't a lot of people figure that, if it's all going swimmingly well and they're being told the truth, why would such measures even be needed?

But sadly, not an unlimited supply of people still alive to use them.

You'd have to imagine that many, if not a majority, know what is going on since they still have access to the outside world via social media, VPNs, messaging apps etc. Its almost impossible for the Government to block every form of communication.
