Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

The next Ramstein meeting is this Friday hopefully we will get some good news then.

Not sure how much more it will decide given that the latest tranche of money for Ukraine has already been decided and appropriated ($16b or so). There needs to be a change in political will among all the relevant politicians in the most powerful nato countries.

Wagner member seeks asylum in Norway.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — A Russian man who reportedly is a former high-ranking member of the Russian private military contractor Wagner Group, has sought asylum in Norway, authorities said Monday.

The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration, also known by its Norwegian acronym UDI, confirmed to The Associated Press that Andrey Medvedev has sought shelter in Norway.

“For reasons of security and privacy, the UDI cannot comment further on this matter,” UDI said in an email to the AP.

Don't count on too much mutiny or desertion. This kind of mentality (patriotic duty) will still make Russian men go to the front and risk their life.

Analysts and former Russian energy officials and executives say Russia will remain a major oil-and-gas producer with the ability to swing global prices. But they say Moscow will struggle to maintain output at prewar levels and sell it at international market prices, cutting into its biggest source of tax revenue and capacity to wield commodity exports as a tool of influence.

Yes, I get that, to a degree - it's hardly as though governments go to the people and ask permission. They'll do what brings them the best result though, I agree. At what point though will they have some balls and take real action? How despicable must the crimes be, or perhaps, better said, how many victims are needed after one attack before the world decides to step in? That the UK has finally agreed to send the tanks is probably more to do with the fact that the Tories haven't a hope in hell at the next election. It's so pathetic. Arm them properly and let them expel the rapists and murderers from their lands.

Well he agrees with me.

Sounds very utopic, but it's believed to see some sort of bigger offensive push by Russian forces soon.

No way the Russians have massed that many soldiers in Belarus without NATO intelligence services knowing about it. You cannot disguise that much movement effectively.

I don't doubt there will be an offensive and it makes sense to cut the Ukraine off from it's Western supply chain. But that brings the war right to the border with Poland. Just one bad artillery barrage and they might set off a catastrophic chain of events off.

Yeh that's nonsense, they've nothing like those numbers.

I highly doubt we'll see any attack at all from the North personally.

Senior former Iranian diplomats are expressing open criticism of their government, warning that by failing to revive the nuclear deal and supplying drones to Russia in Ukraine, the country risks becoming isolated, its economy weakened and the protest movement emboldened.
In a front-page interview with the Etemaad newspaper, he said he feared Iran had thrown away “a golden opportunity” to revive the nuclear deal and suggested the country had abandoned its neutrality in Ukraine, leaving Tehran exposed to American claims of war crimes by supplying drones for use against Ukrainian civilians.
Sadr warned Russia may have dealt “a fatal blow” to Iran by attacking Ukraine. Russia put itself into a confrontation with the whole of Europe and “made us its partner in crime”.

Netherlands are donating one more Patriot system to Ukraine eventually it will bring the total count to 3 once they reach their target destination, and I’m sure US will provide another few down the line.

 700,000 soldiers

Whoever came up with that number for propaganda purposes must be obsessed that 11-second bit of a Chinese human wave attack from Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War too many times. I've seen it; it's somewhere on YouTube. It's majestic for the cameras or for the human mind, but it's useless on the battlefield if the defensive line is solid.

Those claims are 100% bullshit. There is no way Russia/Belarus would be able to move even a tenth of those numbers close to the Polish border without detection.

Ii is total bullshit. US satellites easily picked up the build-up prior to the initial invasion last year, and we already know that the Russian army can't do jack without the railway system to move a huge chunk of troops and armor. No way that the Kremlin would do anything differently when their logistic capabilities (or lack of) are what they are.

I hope the embassy has small windows. And be careful with knives. You don't want to slip and inadvertently stab yourself in the back.

Russian embassies are full into Russian propaganda. How can that just go on without repercussions. I mean I'm not that much into diplomacy but maybe some of those embassies should be closed.
