Rugby Union 23/24 Discussion

Shame lads. If only you were a couple points back, you might have had a chance to miss a game winning drop goal.

I genuinely don’t know what they see in Henderson, 1st he’s past his best, his position should be for a younger player, 2nd he always looks like he’s just off a session, 3rd he’s average at best.

Those Richard Dunne Irish genetics.

Ireland needed a wake-up like that. Farrell needs to freshen up that squad. O'Mahony, Henderson, Healy and the likes shouldn't be featuring as much when they won't be around for 2027.

Ringrose and Aki, as brilliant as they have been, have lost an edge in the centre. Gibson-Park is brilliant, but we're sorely lacking at 10. Feels like Frawley and Crowley are just placeholders for Prendergast in the interim.

NZ still mercurial with players like McKenzie and Jordan, even if they aren't the force they once were.

We have to move on from a lot of these players to past the quarter final of a World Cup, they are getting old, like seriously Henderson they could of picked McCann and Iza, not even going to try and spell his name wrong from ulster, Coombes and ahern from Munster, Pendergast from Connaught, why is Murray still in the squad why is POM still there even though he’s a better choice than Henderson. If the goal of Irish rugby is to win the big one someone at Leinster needs to let go of some of there older players

@Xaviesta 0-2 with the predictions….willing the ABs to lose

I would apologise on behalf of the northern hemisphere….but at least we beat them sometimes, you never do

If Borthwick is the Southgate of rugby, Razor is the Klopp. Shaking all the way through the interview, mad eyes, waffling shite….very similar

That’s the least of our worries and an easy fix, remove James Ryan and put someone that can call a line out in at this level he’s a shite caller and our hookers are just off of injuries.

It’s an easy fix (hopefully) but wasn’t the least of our worries tonight. It was a big factor in the result. Not helped by the twat ref apparently giving up on keeping a gap between the two teams.

I mentioned this earlier, a lot of that is down to the players lack of being vocal to the ref, like a POM, sexton and previous to them was POC and BOD, didn’t see Doris talking much and Berine is just tired of getting railroaded by refs lately.

We definitely miss Sexton chipping away at the ref. Not a fecking peep out of Crowley all night.

Sexton was the captain, it was up to him to chirp, in matches lately POM had to be reminded by the ref Berine has to speak for the team. One last thing this better be Henderson’s last game, if Baird isn’t fit pick from McCann, Izu, ahern or prendergast.

Agreed on Henderson. But the game was done by the time he came on. So that was a side issue really.

i was looking forward to that one. thanks for nothing, ireland.

I'm a broken record but this is the same mistake we made after the last world cup.

When everyone else goes into transition, we cling to the old guard til it's too late

Australia has been pushing for scrums to be set faster and rightly so and yet an Australian ref failed to enforce the law around scrums being set within 30 seconds. It's not a hard law to enforce.

I've succeeded in underestimating this All Blacks team.

To be honest, yesterday it was more a case of overestimating Ireland. It was a very low quality match. NZ weren’t particularly impressive (apart from McKenzi, who played very well) Ireland gave away 13 penalties and made 22 handling errors. A truly awful performance.

I'd like to talk about the greed of the RFU. They have sold broadcasting rights to BT, so only a tiny percentage can watch. BT are charging £130-160 a month to televised it at rugby clubs most of whom cannot afford that. Since Covid my club can barely raise 2 teams - we used to have 3, so the bar is closed on match day so we lose more money. Tickets for Twickenham ( refuse to call it Allianz) are up to £180 odd for a ticket. Throw in train fare, drinks (£8 a pint), grub and you are looking at £500-600 a couple. When I was working part time for the RFU, they would have a pre- natch lunch for the "old farts " and alickadoos which probably cost £100k. The grass roots rugby clubs think that the RFU think grass roots rugby starts at level 6. That might be a misperception but it is z perception that grass roots clubs think. There are plenty of ex- internationals dotted round the country, so if the RFU sent 1 a month to grass roots clubs to encourage the kids, they would attract so many kids. Rant over. But I reserve the right to carry on f I think if something else

When Australia take on England at Twickenham, keep your eye on Wallabies outside centre Joseph Sua'ali'i, who will play his first ever game of professional rugby and his first game of rugby since his days and Kings school in Sydney. Sua'ali'i has spent the last 4 years playing in the NRL for the Sydney Roosters and he signed a deal to join the 15 a side version of rugby in late March of 2023 on a 3 year deal for a reported $1.6m per year. He will be the highest paid player in Australian sport next year.

Here is the story of how Rugby Australia landed the precociously talented outside back: https://archive.md/rOLyc

Local clubs need rich benefactors who are basically prepared to lose money on them. Otherwise it’s impossible
