I think the risk with this new Bunker Review is exactly refs not giving reds straight away.
It abdicates responsibility to the TMO.
Makes it look a bit silly when you see Vunipola's yesterday.
There should have been no question.

Is that a problem though? Makes no difference to what happens other than speeding up the review process. While actually making it more thorough and considered. Seems like a really sensible change to me. If only football rule changes improved the game as much as this one!

I like the bunker for ones where there's genuine doubt over what colour the card should be. For clear red cards, (like Vunipola) refs are encouraged to give a red on the field.

Yeah I agree with that.
I think it'll cause more problems down the road if the main referee on the pitch is passing off all responsibility on red cards to the TMO.
It's a big step up from the TMO being only able to advise the main ref and I think it should be reserved for moments of genuine doubt.
But the ref yesterday was fairly crap in general, not too surprising he passed it on.

So are we expecting Vunipola and Farrell to be banned for some or all of the world cup ?

World Cup getting very close now. Who's the favourite? Ireland have been in great form, and a Northern hemisphere World Cup gives them the edge for me. However, New Zealand can never be ruled out, and we could get a NZ vs. Ireland QF which would be a shame. South Africa (my team) look okayish, not much of a change from 4 years ago so I don't think a victory is on the cards. France are France, so you can never tell.

My top 4:
1. Ireland
2. NZ
3. France
4. SA

The sad part is these 4 teams will probably meet in the QF matches, and that could mean fatigue setting in earlier for these top teams vs. the other 2 pools.

I just can’t get past the insanity of England, Wales or Australia basically being guaranteed a place in the final. Three of the worst big rugby nations in the world, over the last couple of years. How come other sports are able to arrange world cups without making such a cnut of the draw?

Oh and NZ will win.

Please don't put us favourites. I beg you

This draw really makes no sense. They do the draw way too early, and they should probably only do it 6 months before the world cup. Having said that, I think Eng, Wales or Aus only make a semi - I'll need to check how the draw plays out again.

Haha on second thought NZ just have the aura to probably win it. I would prefer an Ireland win though, you just have to hope you haven't peaked too early and the pressure doesn't get to you.

Unless I’ve missed something important there are two halves to the draw. One half has England, Wales and Aus as the best teams in it. I’m fairly sure that one finalist has to come from that half of the draw.

If you follow this predictor, it looks like the two big QF matches are on opposite sides of the draw. So basically the two QF's are effectively the semis.

Steve Hansen will be in Wallabies camp this week ahead of their match against France this weekend.

I'd agree with that. Ireland and France have never had a better opportunity win the World Cup. South Africa are the wildcard. The funny thing about the Boks is it wouldn't be a shock if they won the tournament nor if they went out in the quarter finals but it would be a surprise if they lost a semi final.

Wales have named their squad of 33 for the World Cup. There are 19 forward and 14 backs for what will be Warren Gatland's 4th straight World Cup in charge of Wales.

FORWARDS (19)
Taine Basham, Adam Beard, Elliot Dee, Corey Domachowski, Ryan Elias, Taulupe Faletau, Tomas Francis, Dafydd Jenkins, Dewi Lake, Dillon Lewis, Dan Lydiate
Jac Morgan, Tommy Reffell, Will Rowlands, Nicky Smith, Gareth Thomas, Henry Thomas, Christ Tshiunza and Aaron Wainwright

BACKS (14)
Josh Adams, Gareth Anscombe, Dan Biggar, Sam Costelow, Gareth Davies, Rio Dyer, Mason Grady, Leigh Halfpenny, George North, Louis Rees-Zammit, Nick Tompkins, Johnny Williams, Liam Williams and Tomos Williams

Well the Welsh were well and truly handed their heads by the more powerful, quicker and smarter Boks. England seem to play better with 14 which is good as that seems to happen every match. Billy Vunipola's 'tackle' was always a red card even without 45 slow motion replays. It's all academic, the final will be between France and the All Blacks.

Two scrum halves only is a risk but he wants the experience of Halfpenny there.

Aargh, I got that wrong as well. Like @Pogue Mahone i had Wales, Eng, Aus & Arg on the one side all the way to the finals.

Glad it didn’t pan out silly like that! Though argentina in a Rugby World Cup final would have been some sight!

4 games for Farrell - first 2 group games of the World Cup.

Fair play it took some bollocks to pursue this but it's right and appropriate.

Would have only missed one of those games without the initial appeal?
Hard to say it starts at 6 games and then previous history gets it reduced sometimes. I think's its about right he didn't go in to maim the bloke but he's done this a few times before so needed pulling up on it.

May as well be 6, the 4 game ban (missing the first 2 matches of the WC) means he misses Argentina and Japan, the two tough matches.

To be fair, I’d be flabbergasted if we didn’t beat Japan anyway….Argentina I expect to be a coinflip

my wifes mate managed to get tickets and we were at the halfway line in great seat - two green shirts in a sea of white - It was tough going with the snide borderline racist remarks from three cretins behind me.
Didnt expect it at a rugby game and honestly if I was there with anyone other than my wife I'd have probably thumped the man that told me to go and eat a potato at half time among other bigoted comments. The cnut knew exactly what he was saying. I was so furious and even now thinking of it I dont know how I managed not to break his nose. The lady sitting beside me even apologized to me and said she was embarrassed by them

England are dreadful at the moment, as piss poor as they’ve ever been. We’ll definitely lose to Argentina and wouldn’t surprise me to even see them lose to Japan and get knocked out in the group stages which in theory should be the easiest group to qualify from.

International rugby is very often attended by cnuts. Fortunately they’re not interested enough in the game to bother with it at other levels

Billy Vunipola received a 3 game ban which can be reduced to 2 if he attends ''tackle school'' after showing the world how not to tackle against Ireland on the weekend just gone.

Twickenham is expected to be full for the match between New Zealand and South Africa on Friday. The home of English rugby is only expected to be half full when England play Fiji on Saturday.

Crazy that us and the AB's would arrange such an intense friendly just a week before kick off....crazy or good planning?

Depends how many injuries you pick up, doesn’t it? Come out unscathed and it’s good test match preparation. Lose two first team players and it’s a mistake

I do think there’s a huge psychological marker laid down by the winner though

Yes to all of the above.

I guess it’s a little new to me. I don’t recall 2 powerhouses playing a friendly a week before an international tournament - but maybe I’m just not paying attention and it’s happened more than I know.

We struggle against the All Blacks. I think it's better to always avoid them until you have to play them (and hope a Northern hemisphere team manages to knock them out before).

From a Kiwi perspective I reckon it’s quite smart, they’re facing France in France in their first fixture…..it doesn’t get much tougher than that. May as well make yourself battle-hardened.

Yeah my overall thought from the last few times I’ve watched is that you struggle to implement the same power game on the ABs as you do on other sides. Even when the ABs pack hasn’t been vintage it seems to hold up against yours pretty well….not sure why.

It’ll be really interesting to see if SA continue to play the more expansive game with Libbok against the AB’s (who are the best at exploiting an unstructured game) or whether they revert to type and kick 80% of ball off 9 or 10.

I personally love Libbok at 10 and I’ll be well fecked off from a neutral perspective if they go back to Pollard booting the leather off everything.

Yeah guess that makes sense. Boks & Ireland are also in the same group - so you'll need to start with some intensity here.
