Chuffed with the result. Five tries, very good defence (outside of the first two minutes) and some outstanding scrummaging helped the Reds to a record breaking win over the Waratahs.

The Tahs had a player red carded after 36 minutes and were able to bring on a replacement 20 minutes later hence why the red card icon beside the Tahs on the score graphic went away after the 56th minute.

During the Reds vs Waratahs match James O'Connor put a goalline dropout out on the full. The Tahs were given the option of a 5m scrum or allowing O'Connor to take the kick again. Surprise, surprise the Tahs took the option of a 5m scrum.

That's a substantial disadvantage then for messing up a kick.

That's another example of a fairly moronic red card there. Looks like it wasn't going to affect the result much though given the scoreline when it happened!

A random tangent question, is there any chance this format might revitalise Australian rugby a bit? All rivalries, all the time? Although the stadium looked fairly empty there.

Is this televised in the U.K. do you know?

Presumably out for the rest of the tournament. I’m a bit of a fanboy I know, but I think this massively affects France

Any side is going to be affected by losing the best player in the world!

If Couilloud was available it would be okay. Serin and Bézy are good players though.

Yeah, I was just waiting to be hammered by France fans saying how good the backups/rest of the team are

A fairly anxious wait now to see if any other French or Irish players have it too.

I think there are a few expected in the French camp. Sounds like Servat brought it into camp.

He probably picked it up eating orphans off the street if his personal life is anything like his playing career was.

The short answer is that if the quality is high and Aussie teams do well in the Trans Tasman cross over, then yes there will hopefully be a revitilisation of Aussie rugby. Dull rugby and poor performances against the Kiwis later in the year will set the game back.

From mid 2016 to mid 2018, Kiwi teams won 42 straight matches against Aussie opponents. That was pretty much a weekly reminder that our teams stunk the minute they played a quality team that the Aussie public cared about. All going well, there will be a Trans Tasman cross over comp in about 10 weeks time and I'm confident the Reds and Brumbies will perform well.

I hope this more time-zone friendly Aussie only comp we have until May will help Aussie rugby in the long run. I'm very iffy about the law variations as I'm not sure the laws of the game are the issue, more the rugby media not doing anywhere near enough to sell the game. The company that has the rights to televise rugby seems to care about the game and want to showcase which can't be said for the previous rights holders.

The big gripes many had with super rugby was the lack of tribalism. Many Aussie rugby fans couldn't give two hoots about the South African teams even if they were filled with Springboks. That issue is now dead and buried.

Dan Carter has retired. Heck of a player, shame he wasn't born on the opposide side of the Tasman Sea.

Hes probably the best player in the world on current form in fairness. Massive loss

Something really strange just happened in the chiefs saints game . Chiefs scored a last minute try to get it to 12-13 and had the conversion to win it . Simmonds stepped up to take the kick and saints players made it to the ball before him. Exeter believed that Simmonds never started his run up but the ref deemed that he had and so saints won it . Freakish end

Watched it live and a few replays....incredibly harsh call

Take a look at the Connacht - Cardiff highlights later if ye can. Wooten has scored two great tries. Brilliant finishing.

I'm at work and can't even watch the Munster game I have on in the kitchen!

Will check it out later though. I always liked Wooton.

Casey and Coombes making Farrell look more than a little foolish tonight.

That looks really, really harsh. Hard to tell from that angle but it looks like he barely moved.
I actually reckon the saints players ran to just amp the pressure up, expecting to get sent back. They had no idea what to do when they got there and the ref hadn’t sent them back

Seen a few replays of that and it's a ridiculous decision . Nowhere does Simmonds genuinely move his feet

4 red cards in the Gallagher Premiership so far this weekend. I have been unimpressed by the refs in the English premiership saying ''use it or reset'' when the scrum collapsed with the ball at the back of the scrum. In that situation, there should be no ''reset'' option, just use it once no progress is being made.

Interesting, I can't recall seeing a situation lately where they didn't use the ball. Was the scrumhalf just hanging around waiting for a reset?

Scrumhalf saw the scrum go down and looked at the ref probably hoping for a penalty, ref then said 'use it or reset'' when he should have just ''use it''.

Farrell can’t last after this six nations can he? The squad announced for Italy and no young fly half in it, Coombes left out again, I can’t see us beating Scotland and England will improve as they play, 1 win isn’t good enough, you could accept it if we were playing the kids and playing good rugby, but box kicking to nothing is pointless.

It'll be interesting to see what the squad makeup is for Italy. Or has it been announced?
