Four days before a massive game is ridiculous and sums up how rotten the WRU are. Gatland has had to delay naming the team and given the players the day off to hold more talks.

James Ryan as captain suggests that Sexton won't make this game. I'm delighted with that as long as Johnny is ok long term. Huge chance now for Ross Byrne to show his ability and worth at an International level. No doubt a good Italian team will target him but I know that he has the ability to handle that. He got thrown an impossible task in 'that' England game that really hurt his International career. Need him and Joey to really show their worth here and give us 2 good options to come in for Sexton in the World Cup if needed. While not top class both are good enough at this level, just I wish they both had more time in the role this close to a World Cup. Farrell's only huge mistake for me.

Another Friday evening watching the U20s

Young Prendergast has some boot on him.

At least England are up to things at U20 level.

Huge day for us tomorrow. Losing would put a huge negative on the group, winning is a big step forward.

Hopefully Italy can make a game of it as they did against France. I fancy you’ll smash them though, too much pace and power, but also crucially just too organised in both attack and defence.

@Xaviesta just seen the saders got battered, what happened?

The Crusaders often start the season a little sluggishly with the aim of peaking at the right time.

That said, they were outplayed by the Chiefs last night who were on top for much of the match and made it count on the scoreboard.

Sam Cane and Brodie Retallick had good games which will no doubt excite Ian Foster.

It’s the classic SR situation….was going to get up for the Blues Highlanders game, but had a shitty nights sleep so lay in and missed most of it

A good test for Ireland today.
I don't think it's a foregone conclusion at all, and I think Italy have a good shot at a win.
Ireland need to perform really well today in the absence of Sexton in particular to build confidence for the World Cup.

So it's possible to play the ball in a ruck when you are on the ground...

There you go boys, Lawrence Dallaglio, well known ‘hater of the Irish’, reckons you’ve got the best attacking game in the world. High level of praise that

Not sure beating this Wales team is that much of a potential statement win for England.
Losing against then wouldn't be good.

Yeah but we’re always awful in Cardiff, and they’ll be bang up for it…because it’s England. I still expect us to win though

Absolutely terrible half. Ringrose a much bigger loss than Sexton today. I know we've a lot of injuries but some of the mistakes are just awful. Fair play to Italy, they've really improved and are playing well. Wouldn't be surprised if they manage to get the result in the second half.

I'm a bit more with you. Thought we lacked a bit of control and organisation without the ball. Dire to concede a try just on HT

Not sure I'd call it terrible.
Italy are a good team now.
We've attacked very well, but had big flubs when defending.

Alternatively, we scored the bonus try half an hour earlier than England did, at Twickenham, and would have a very comfortable half time lead without that one loose pass in injury time. Ireland have been the better team and by far the most likely winners against the best Italy team in years (ever?).

I’ve noticed that you’re a very negative man about the auld rugby!

Don’t use as a yardstick to measure yourselves at the moment ;)

I think it being the best chance of seeing Ireland winning on the world stage is getting to us.

I was by no means expecting an easy game in Rome against an improved Italian group.

But you just feel it's a touch jittery. Hopefully we can score as freely second half. Italy get the next significant score I'll lock myself in the cupboard

Wouldn't necessarily say I'm negative but I definitely have a big expectation of Ireland and Leinster. If we aren't winning the biggest tournaments then it's a failure for me. Nice position to be in considering our football team. Maybe I'm being harsh today but 20 missed tackles is awful in one half. Italy to be fair have been excellent and are becoming a very decent side.

No arguing with that missed tackle count.
Our scrum has really struggled too.
