Rugby League Super League 2010

Great tackle by Briscoe at the end of this match

It's in here if you haven't seen it

And what do people think will happen tomorrow in the Wigan-Warrington game

Great tackle by Briscoe but I feel KR bombed it by getting it to Fox too early and failing to draw the last 2 defenders in which allowed Briscoe to get across for the try saver.

As for tomorrow's game, Wigan will edge us. Our record against the other big hitters this season has been dire albeit in good performances against Wigan and Leeds at home.

Sadly, I think you're right. Wigan look almost unstoppable at the moment, and with home advantage they should shade it. If Wire are to win, they'll need the forwards playing out of their skins. Should be a great game.

Warrington have got to stop turning it over, especially in such dangerous areas

Wigan pay for not taking advantage of all those errors, and now its 6-4

Good job our defence got it's mojo back. We'd have got slapped if it was as poor as it's been recently after all that cheap ball we gave them.

We were virtually flawless after the 25 minute mark though barring some limp tackles in the 2nd half and Mathers customary balls-up

Our short range kicking game was great but our long range kicking game needs tidying up ahead of the big games coming up, too many kicks were straight down Richards/Roberts throat for my liking.

Westwood, Harrison and Louis Anderson were superb in defence and in making the hard yards.

Yeh, fully deserved to win, thought Mathers was very fortunate that he wasn't called for that knock-on, what was it then, a tied game, that decision could've won it for Wigan, a scrum 10 yards out

Your linespeed in defence was frightening at times tonight, although I do suspect a few of those must have been offside though

Yeah, that tackle by Anderson about 15 minutes before the end was crucial. Wigan were in the ascendancy at that point and I feared another late loss. Definitely a much-needed win for Warrington as they needed to show they can beat the big sides.

No surprise really

Wigan sign Finch, Hoffman and Lima

Storm trio of Ryan Hoffman, Jeff Lima and Brett Finch will join Wigan from 2011, Hoffman on a one year deal with a second year option, Lima on a three and Finch for 2011 and 2012.

Speaking in a Melbourne Storm Press Release, Hoffman said,

"Melbourne's been my home for the past eight years," .

"It was a very tough decision to go but hopefully, with me taking this opportunity overseas, it will give someone else the chance to have the same great experiences that I have had here.

"I'm proud and honoured to have been able to play for the Storm.

"Likewise I'm excited about playing for one of if not the most famous rugby league clubs in the world and becoming part of that club's already great history.

"Playing overseas is something that I've always wanted to do so when the opportunity to join a club that is on the verge of something special was too good to refuse."

Finch added: "I've loved my time here in Melbourne.

"It's been a difficult year, but if I had to go through it, I'm glad it was with this group.

"This club gave me an opportunity to continue in the NRL after I left Parramatta but playing in England has always been in the back of my mind.

"I've always wanted to play there and I'm extremely glad I'm going to such a strong club with a strong value set and a proud tradition."

Finch will play his 254th NRL game against Penrith at AAMI on Saturday while Hoffman, 26, has played 163 NRL games - all for the Storm.

Lima, 28, has played 93 NRL games, 91 for the Storm.

Lima said: "It was Melbourne that threw a lifeline to me back in 2006 and I won't forget what this club has done for my family in that time.I'll be leaving with a lot of great memories."

Are Wigan losing players to make way for these guys? Heard Riddell might be leaving.

Yep, they've already confirmed Riddell is going to be allowed to leave early for family reasons

Paleassina has got to be another one going, Bailey as well I guess, so that's three spaces right there

And I guess they will afford them by guys like Fielden taking big paycuts, as he'll still be on big money from when they signed him from Bradford

I don't know exactly who's out of contract, but yeh, Phelps may be one who is, but I'm sure they've got plenty of cap room for these guys

In other news we at St Helens are finally going to see movement on the new stadium with work beginning today!

Not before time either! Knowsley Road's pretty run down now and isn't really a fitting home for a club like Saints. What is the proposed capacity for the new stadum JG?

18500 which is spot on really because our average attendance at the minute is about 11k. We only fill when the bigger teams come. You'd expect that a new stadium would add maybe 1-2k to the average gate.

The stadium looks really good though and it's been said that in terms of RL it'll be the best in the UK when it's completed but I suppose that's always spouted! Obviously they mean RL only stadia not the likes of the KC or DW.

One thing i'm liking is the fact two or the corners are filled in unlike some stadiums that have gaps in all corners. I suppose only time will tell if it lives up to expectation though.

Sounds good. As far as the difference in crowds a new stadium brings, I think I'm right in saying Warrington's attendances rose by more than 2,000 per game when they moved from Wilderspool, and that was before the team started to appreciably improve.

Too right, they have been abysmal so far, taking nothing from the Pies.

Yeh, Wigan have been decent, the Farrell try was truly excellent, but they've not been brilliant by any stretch, their just running harder with the ball and getting good good yards

Hull will be lucky to get nil at this rate

Pat Richards must have Man of Steel locked up for this season

:lol::nono: In his own team, O'Loughlin, Riddell, Roberts, and the Tomkins brothers have had better season's IMO.

As for other clubs, Monaghan, and Moz for us, Rangi Chase, O'Meley, Eastmond, Lunt, and a few others are more worthy candidates IMO.

I'll be very surprised if he doesn't win it, just look at the points he's scored

What is it now, 25 tries
on the verge of beating Andy Farrell's points in a season record
2nd only to James Graham on meters made

As I say, I'll be surprised if he doesn't win it

Who cares about points and stats? Riley has 21 tries but we all know he's not going to win MOS.

Richards is a fine player but like I pointed out, he's been outshone by plenty at his own club aswell as SL in general.

Great weekend this one

Leeds - Wigan tonight
Warrington - St Helens tomorrow evening

Winners?

I'll go Wigan and Warrington, but I can definitely see Leeds winning

Yep, I'm going for Leeds and Warrington. It was a shame Wire slipped up at Catalans last week, but on the bright side it might prepare the players for a real battle in the Semi Final next week.

Apart from the knock on by Coley, Wigan have played some really good rugby in the conditions

Report is the biggest piece of shit ever, just allows the refs to bottle it, that's a definite yellow and probably a red card right there imo

EDIT
I know we don't want games ruined, but that's hardly the ref's fault, that was out of order by Ablett

And now Bailey leads with the knee on someone, and he's on report

I don't normally go in for these kind of bias and conspiracy theory stories, but doeesn't everyone have Ganson as being a St Helens fan, and who do Leeds have next week in the SF of the Challenge Cup

Agree about the Ablett "tackle", pretty uncalled-for. Well deserved win for the Pies unfortunately.

Yep, Wigan were much much better than Leeds.

And on the Ablett thing, it's a disgrace when you see that guy still on the field and Coley in the bin for nothing

It was a bad un' but Tomkins had it coming. The amount of filthy, sneaky, cowardly tackles he's come up with over his career would have had other, less heralded names in the dock by now.

What goes around, comes around. Now for his bigger but equally snide brother to get one around the chops

Big game this for Warrington, they need to show they can beat Saints imo, as they're likely to meet them in the first round of the play-offs

EDIT

Saints 6-0 up

Well, it's hard to be magnanimous in defeat after that! Saints always seem to have the luck against Warrington. Wellens throws the ball in hope and it goes straight to Foster for a try. King tries an inside pass with the try line begging and it goes straight into Foster's arms. Sick as a pig!!

Right, I've calmed down a bit now and realised that last post came across like a bitter Scouser or Citeh fan! I'm afraid you just have to hand it to Saints, they have a great side and their willl-to-win is awesome.

I'm hoping Warrington's long-overdue win against them will be in the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley.

Was a good game, those two and Wigan are a cut above at the moment, I thought we were going to get a big controversial moment, as the video ref was almost going to disallow that Foster try

Was it Wellens/Wilkin who through that pass, i couldn't believe he did it, but it worked, just seemed a bit needless

Refreshing to see Wigan having a good season at last...one in ten isn't bad.

Well, Maguire seems to have a plan and they're now fully utilising the youth that has always come through, so I guess it won't be a one-off

Believe me, Ed, as a Warrington fan that WAS controversial. You could clearly tell that the video ref was looking to disallow the try until Phil Clarke chirped up that he shouldn't be looking at that part of the move, and suddenly the pictures fast-forwarded and the try was allowed. For the video ref to have access to the match commentary, which clearly guided his decision, was utterly farcical.
