Exactly. If the manager is calling out players, why do we have an issue with it? Especially if the players who have been given chances under different managers and have not produced anything.

If they cannot take criticism after their poor performances, get rid.

In hindsight, he was diabolical for sure. But look at who we're linked to, Gyokeres and Quenda. Both excite me, but it's certainly a similarity

Correct. There is a difference and Amorim mentioned it, they tell them the type of player and the team searches for that and provides a shortlist. Different than sign whoever the manager knows

Exactly the emphasis on recruitment under ETH was from his recommendations. The current situation is the opposite where Amorim explains the profile he wants and the recruitment team goes out and finds a list of targets.

To say it’s the same is quite disingenuous.

As a sporting fan u guys won the lottery, sporting was bankrupt and dint win a championship in 20 years the old president hired hooligans to go punch some members of the team in the training ground, after that a new president arrived and he hired one of the worse coaches in sporting history, he was fired and sporting paid amorim release clause.
At the time he was under so much pressure and he came in the end of the season and lost almost all of the games and everybody was saying it was a terrible decision, next year he wins the champion and builds a foundation of the squad, he finishes 2nd the year after and win the year after.He went trough one of the worst scenarios in football with all eyes on him saying he was going to fail and manage to turn around a club that didnt win in 20 years and gave us 2 league tiltes if you guys stick with him things are only going to get better. If u fire hime we appreciate it and he can come back anytime Be smart united fans

It goes back to the point I made earlier and the thread. Quenda makes total sense because he fits and is "experienced" in a role that isn't common, the pool of players that we can safely target is small and Sporting CP players will be at the top of that list. Gyokeres is a bit, it's an industrious striker that showed good end product in the past couple of years that combination isn't common and he will be a target for everyone if the price is right.

Regarding Gyokeres but also any goalscorer from weaker leagues, I have learned over the years that it's important to check whether their goalscoring is translated to CL and EL competitions and in this case the sample size is relatively small but he scores at an elite level at continental level, he is also a regular scorer as opposed to players that have multi goals games inbetween long goals droughts.

Arsenal's football is far from entertaining these days. One 5-1 win over City doesn't change that.

No he didn’t, what fecking nonsense. Ten Hag’s favourtism for Antony not only led to Sancho’s departure but likely led to him losing his job since he wouldn’t regularly play Amad either. Apart from the cup wins, Ten Hag was and remains a fecking disaster on recruitment and squad building.

Amorim is not a De Zerbi or a Bielsa either… let’s see how Dorgu fits in at LWB in his evolute yet pragmatic setup, if he does well you can be sure INEOS will confidently buy him more players in the Summer and results will improve.

Relying on a 20 year old with no experience at PL level is a risky strategy to try to convince a board to buy you more players. He should have went for an experienced attacker in January to try and improve results. Seeing as his two strikers are about as collectively useful as a lamp post.
 
I genuinely don't know how anything, other than Rashford leaving on loan, can be levelled at Amorim for the window. Just going off of what happened, they clearly decided a LWB was a bigger priority if they could only sign one player due to all the issues on the left side, and nowt was left over to specifically buy a forward. Not getting another in on loan isn't on him, it's either on the board failing or all being at an understanding there wasn't one out there at value for money.

Not that I necessarily agree with it, I'm just not sure how anything can be laid at Amorim's door regarding incomings.

The attack relies heavily on the wingbacks getting forward FAST. Something our wingbacks can’t do. Getting an attacker in wouldn’t have done shit

We didnt have the money for a striker in January and we'll struggle find the money for 1 in the summer, especially if we lose tonight as we'll have no European football

Whilst that may be true to an extent, we do still create enough chances usually to at least start drawing the games we're losing. Problem is we've only Amad who who'd trust in front of goal. Don't see how a 20 year old full back is going to have us start converting chances. Letting go of both Rashford and Antony was fantastic, but we need goals in this team in my opinion.

Not if the board is on side with the strategy. If you see what INEOS have said, they want to buy young and improve players rather than going for 100m players.

See posts like this make no sense to me because, an experienced striker in this market in January costs more than 60m, whereas the 20 Year old LWB is 25m. So its completely irrelevant the post you are making

Not referring to an experienced striker in particular, just an attacker of any kind who has any experience at this level. Fans complained about those Cavani/Ibrahimovic type signings, but I'd take one right now, and actually think it's what we need at this time.

An experienced striker that isn't certifiably subpar isn't even available in January.

This is what has got us in this mess though... We signed experienced strikers in January / Simmer in Cavani, Ighalo who are short terms options.

What is the point of short term fixes? We have shown they dont work in the past. When it comes to squad building for a long term manager, you dont get short term expensive fixes.

We tried to get an inexperienced one in Tel and even he was costing 10m for a 4 month loan.
 
Cavani would explain to the coach and the team exactly what they need to do to give him the service.
I get the feeling that Hojlund is not experienced enough to tell the players and the coach that he isn't getting the service that he needs.

He's so inexperienced and playing within a broken system he probably doesn't know what service he requires. He doesn't have a lot of chances created for him to figure out the right runs and timing of them.

He also hasn't been good enough in other aspects of his game though.

The points raised may be good points to raise if its a short term thing but there comes a point where you stop looking at the team, and look at the player instead.

You talk about a broken system but Hojlund struggled just as bad in the Ten Hag and RVN system. When a player doesn't work under multiple systems, you have to stop blaming the system and point the finger at the player.

Teams will create chances if the striker makes the run, if the striker can hold up the ball lay it off and move.

If you can't hold the ball that is played to your feet, how do you expect the team to get up the pitch?

I am a fan, and I am definitely not writing off the season. With the quality of players we have, I was truly optimistic when Amorim was announced. Especially considering the mini bounce we were having under RVN when he reverted to the basic 4231 (most balanced formation ever in my honest opinion.) I must say Amorim needs to step up his game big time, our current league position is not a fair reflection of the players' quality - Amorim needs to change that formation, it's limiting the team big time. The manager is the boss for a reason, the buck stops at his desk.
